Well, the digital 150 ballast was just delivered!

It's absolutey silent, and doesn't get hot (or at least, hasn't yet after a half hour of on time). In fact, it isn't even warm.. its still at room temperature. Lookin prety good to me!

lemon - that's great to hear about the digi 150 - I'm buying one when I start back up...

and you are not alone on the site - there were some issues yesterday and many folks got bounced to a "go daddy" page....

apparantly it was just a DNS change or something - nothing to worry about...

Hey all, well I finally had a bit of good luck for a change. I had reported earlier that all of the gals that I had just started before I went into isolation did not fare well and were lost. Well I was able to bring back one of them from the dead and she's looking pretty good for the time being. I took the last survivor outside and placed the entire net-pot right into the stream that feeds my pond. Apparently she liked it. It had a good flushing, lots of oxygen supplied to the roots, and a constant supply of low-level organic nutes from fish poop, and other decomposed organic material. I left it there for three days and it made a remarkable recovery. Now, lets hope its a girl!!

Some people were discussing it 1 page back I believe (dont want to take credit for finding that :) )

p.s. - also wanted to share some pictures of my stash box - got it at the craft store for $3.50 and then a bunch of glass jars for $1 each plus some labels and now my current smoke is nicely organized and ready for enjoyment. Gonna replace the latch with a lock and maybe stain it too.

thanks for the link suga. :) i used to be in my own private 150 watt club when i lurked on og. never posted but i loved the 150w club there and did my own little 150 scrogs. it seems like the perfect light for personal growers who scrog.

Which craft store did you buy those at? That box looks perfect!

Thanks,

I too am digging that Electronic Ballast and sug's Stash Box.

Looks like a couple of gifts may be in the near future for one of my favorite growers.....ME.

Things looking pretty good with the re-vitalized Sata Nash. I did get it a bit closer to the lamp then it liked. and a few young leaf tips got burned. Not too badly though and she looks no worse for the wear. I'm really surprised because the very top was a full foot from the bulb and I had done the old back-of-hand 30-second test. It never really even felt very warm let alone hot. I guess its just a sensitive plant.

Also, I had to drop the nute PPM a bit. I had raised it to 475, but the plant didn't care for that either, so now its back down around 325. Using GH MaxiGro only with no other additives in Distilled Water. PH is being held at 6 or just below. This is my first time with these nutrients. I already see I like the ease of 1-part dry powder as opposed to the multi-part liquid concentrate I've used for years. If I can get comfortable with it and the matched Bloom ferts, I'll make the switch for good. If it turns out that I'm always having to add something, I'll likely loose intrest and return to my old method of Technaflora's BC liquid series.

Kind of rambling hear as I just finished a bowl a while ago. Sorry. I'll throw up a pic of the plant in an edit in a while.

Regards to all. PD & Jr.

(edit) OK, Here's Jr keeping it company as the plant is currently alone in the box. Then a better look at it. Still hoping its a girl!!!!!

michael's

Pipedream those leaves look like there is a problem down below with a touch of root problems that are starving those areas of the leaf for oxygen. Have you tried hygrozyme? (edit: a little hydrogen peroxide in the res can also be a good thing - add at 5-10ml per gallon - it will help kill any root rot, provide some extra O to you roots and then disapate within a day of bubbling)

What are you using for an air pump - the big boy?

475 ppm is pretty low - ph 6 - try lowering it maybe down to 5.5 - I don't know I had a blue thunder that grew with leaf issues like that the whole time I grew it - my friend grew it in soil and said it was his best plant :chin: go figure

anyways thats about all I can think of - I'd hit them with a little bit of some epsom salts (50-100ppm) since you're using distilled water. I don't have experience with the maxigrow but I've used gh floranova almost exclusively and I usually add epsom to the mix to get a nice lush strong green in the plants.

well that's it for my advice... sorry for the ramble I'm a bit stoned :rasta:

Update

Update

It's been a while since I posted, so I thought I would give an update on my situation.

I've been very busy taking care of my mother whom has breast cancer. While I never manage to get my box up and going for her, luckily she never really suffered with bad nausia.

Having said this, I'm taking my 150 grow back into what I orignally planned it to be, an small office style locking cradenza looking piece of furniture.

This weeks goal is to get the whole box cut out and the various access holes made and then the inside parts painted. I plan on doing a how-to on this so I'm taking ALOT of pictures.

So I do this right the first time, I need to once more varify that I have enough ventilation for this unit. I've already recieved the 150hps from the same place you all order from. I did start messing with the balast, but I've just read about the newer electronic ones, so I think that would be a wise upgrade.

The whole box will be 4' tall, 4' across and 2' deep. Inside I'll divide the unit into 3 seperate chambers. One large scrog chamber that's 2'x2'4'. The other half of the box will be 2 2'x2' cubes. One for electronics as well as drying and storage, and the other for mother's and clones.

I had oringally planned on using a dark room vent for the scrog chamber, but I just don't have the funds right now, instead I'll be using soffit vents on the bottom. I don't recall what size vents I've got. I know they come in sizes from 1-3". I think mine are 2", but I'm not sure, I'll have to get back on that.

The vent path will go as follows.. Fresh air in the bottom, then out the top most inner wall that's between the scrog chamber into the drying/electronics area. So my first question is how many vents do I need? If using 2"? If using 3"? Would I be better off using more 2" in the bottom and then a bunch of 3" ones along the top?

As of now I know I have 2 100 cfm muffin fans. I was thinking of getting a few more just for the heck of it, and it doesn't hurt to have a spare in case one burns out. Honestly I'm thinking of using 3-4 at the back of my box for main ventilation, and installing another one middle center between chambers to help aid heat removal.

To vent the mother/clone chamber, Just a few pieces of pvc elbows should be fine between levels.

I know I've probably asked this question before. I just want to triple check my figures with yours. Doing fixes on the fly isn't fun, especailly when you have alot invested in your setup. I am fully aware that I'll have to tweak this a bit here and there once it's going, but I'd rather over compensate on a few things like venting, then under. Ya'll know the old saying..."Measure twice, cut once!" This is exactilly that.

Jaxx

Jaxom - Welcome back. First off, I hope your Mom is progressing as well as can be expected or even better yet. I've been going thru a similar situation with my own health lately and was also glad not to experience too much nausia. I did however stay pretty well stoned for the first few days and I think it helped a good deal.

As far as your ventilation goes, you really cant have too much. As long as you take care of your light leaks in the flowering chamber, get as much air exchange as you possibly can. It will both help to keep the temps in check and promote healthy growth. By the way, I'm also thinking about upgrading to the electronic ballast. I've been using the same unit for many years now, and while it really hasn't given me any problems, a quieter unit that is more efficient sounds like a winner. Plus, simce I keep my ballast right in my box, it will help to keep things a drop cooler. On the matter of air-flow, the preferred direction is always in from the bottom and exhaust from the top in every chamber. When using one continous air-stream to cool multiple chambers you often have to use some PVC pipeing to redirect the air to the bottom of secondary and terciary spaces.

rasta - Looking good. Those buds are getting mighty frosty.

Regards to all, PD
