The Future of Energy

Dudesome,
Agreed.
The sheer lunacy of not using the fastest growing plant that will grow anywhere almost anything that CAN grow for production of nearly anything that we need is astounding.

We all know how it came to pass, but that it continues is simply beyond belief.

Untapped hundreds of billions of dollars in cheap, eco-friendly and renewable, food, fuel and building materials including plastics all because established industries like things just they way they are.

The big industrial producers are a fact of life, like it or not, because we made them that way. We buy the stuff they make. It's a 2 way street.

We need to demand the Govt.s remove restrictions and encourage the use of hemp and consumers will have to demand that what they buy are made from renewable resources.

We all like to complain about the way things are, but we ourselves are to blame.
Vote with your dollars. They will have to listen and make the change or be left in the dust.
It's not going to be an overnight fix but, then again, what ever is?

Legalize hemp. When they see the profits to be made they'll come running.

Win-Win.

Unfourtunately that's not quite the reality, mate. Hemp is ilegal @the first place, because economically it is no profitable.

Corporations did their count long time ago on wether hemp is profitable or not. It's all they do is count. Their numbers didn't show good results in predictions. they are only interested in financial reports. the more the profit - the more the market worth. What's not to like in the situation given? :)

People are interested in profits more, than a good living. what a shame.

Sadly our farming practices over the past half century have rendered much of our hemp growing farmland barren "green dead zones" nothing can grow there that's not "roundup ready" and the soil can only grow if injected with anhydrous ammonia.

At least on most of the biofuels corn plots anyway...

Hmmm interesting, because I have heard quite the opposite statement. A Canadian farmer from utube said that hemp is a perfect plant for their corn/barley rotation.
It is said that Hemp actually makes their soil better and better if done right.
I believe that statement to be true.

It is true for some farms....
But the giant agribiz farma have been pumping petrochemical fertilizers pesticides and herbicides into soil for so long they have long since KILLED the soil.

Sure you can grow hemp there but the amount of petroleum needed to do so would offset any "green" benefits.

It's unfortunate but true we have killed huge swaths of the most fertile land on the planet.

The same Brazil that is ripping down their rain forest to plant sugarcane to make ethanol or biofuel?

You CAN'T have your cake and eat it too. What's MORE important...cheap energy or conservation? Or is it OK and "sustainable" to kill the rain forest for energy?

Hemp is NOT going to save the planet...

Neither is carbon, joe. It's amount is finite and it damages the ecosystem. You can revolve around the excuses not to regulate and innovate but folks are moving ahead with or w/o you. Northeastern and mid-western states have their own alliances to reduce carbon emissions and California has been doing it's part for much longer.

Status quot energy thinking is faith no more, ignores the multitude of sourcing, efficiency and conservation opportunities, not to mention we'll be saving something as opposed to exploiting it.

im sorry but this is an uneducated bs :)

They are not plants we are talking about here. They are photovoltaic panels that can be installed upon a building for building to produce energy autonomously.

Oh ! those fucking panels that take 20 years to re-pay the cost of installation or re-capture the savings, just in time to re-install new ones since they only have a 15 to 20 year life span??? Those fucking panels?

Not including the maintenance. Without maintenance, the power production can and will be reduced up to 50%. Those fucking panels?

Oh!

And as for subsidizing such projects - I don't think that too many goverments would want to do that.

Get some facts before you post. All industrialized governments have subsidized solar. Some to the point of teetering on bankruptcy.... such as Spain.

Take Dominican Republic for instance: Their ecology is disasterous. They are burning whatever the fuck to get electricity which is not enough to them yet still. Yet they DO have a yearly temperature of 25c constant and A LOT of sun.
Wtf is goverment thinking?

I suggest you move to the Dominican Republic and show them how to do it right.

Why bitch about it? Go fix it.... if you can. LOL

Yeah? California is fucking broke because of idealist fucks that think like you do. Unemployment is 15% in California because of idealist fucks that think like you do. California is losing businesses to other states at a rate of 5.5 firms per week because of idealist fucks that think like you do. 50% of all Californians don't pay taxes but collect government assistance because of idealist fucks that think like you do. Californians pay more in taxes and more for their energy because of idealist fucks that think like you.

Idealist fucks that think like you have ruined this once great state.

I would like to see an idealist fuck at least pay their fair share in taxes without sucking the system dry, or asking others to pay their way. Just once I'd like to see an idealist fuck do that.... just once.

Talk is fucking cheap, especially when there are no jobs due to policies put into place by idealist fucks. California is a horrible place to live and do business. I can't believe you would hold California up as an example of anything but a shitty, idealist, socialist place to live.

Solar panels. Phfft.

I don't know where you get off passing around idealist. You're an example of core beliefs defying realities like statistical demographics aka math.

Yeah? California is fucking broke because of idealist fucks that think like you do.

Yep. Arnold helped get Davis recalled and then did a total-recall on the state of California.

Unemployment is 15% in California because of idealist fucks that think like you do.
No higher than the national average. Cali's in a position to liberally report unemployment figures while the federal government's figures tend to be conservative.

California is losing businesses to other states at a rate of 5.5 firms per week because of idealist fucks that think like you do.
What you're really saying is commerce comes into and leaves the state at rates you have no clue.

50% of all Californians don't pay taxes but collect government assistance because of idealist fucks that think like you do.
I get it. Arnold didn't have the economy on total recall. He terminated it.

Californians pay more in taxes and more for their energy because of idealist fucks that think like you.
Pay attention dumb ass. You can thank conservative voter referendums for higher property taxes.

Idealist fucks that think like you have ruined this once great state.
Arnold... eraser.... California

Well I hope they've given you all the attention you deserve,

fuck head.

How did I miss this thread for this long? Looks like I have some catching up to do, but from a quick glance it looks interesting with some sour grapes thrown in! ;)
The first post suggests that there is no future for solar, wind, biofuel, or hydrogen fuel cells or not at least until the distant future. And that the only thing that will work now is nuke, coal, (or was it shale), and natural gas. I respectfully disagree. Maybe nuclear fusion when that finally comes online, and maybe natural gas just for now as long as it isn't being used to put off clean energy. But solar is viable now, so is wind, and all these things could be more efficient and advance further and quicker if it were not for the oil company misinformation campaigns and the politicians in bed with the oil men that don't subsidize alternative energy like they do oil. But this is a great thread and much thanks the thread starter for starting it!

read up on Sun Edison

http://www.sunedison.com/

so if i believe you GrapeMan then this Private for-profit company could not sustain a pos ROI.

this is done using existing silicon pv panels.

EDIT:

GM, you are a miserable fuck, huh? your posts are so hostile and if you hate cali so bad MOVE.

you rattle about subsidizes for pv and such but what about the ones for oil?

Just to be clear here, Grapeman. You are talking of some old panels. The technology in that department has nothing but improved for the past 2 years. Otherwise why is it china produces them so Heavily? Because people are buying them more and more.

And wtf. All industrialized goverments subsidized solar? WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT HAHHAHAH. get a clue, son.

The definition Industrialized does not even aply to most countries nowadays after the dot com came to the scene in 1995, or even after the fall of berlin wall in 1989, but that's a whole other topic for discussion.

"Californians pay more in taxes and more for their energy because of idealist fucks that think like you."--Grapeman

That's my favorite quote because it really shows how closed-minded this person is. When I moved to California in August 1998, power was still regulated. All I heard on the radio and TV was conservative propaganda about how deregulation was going to lead to increased competition and lower prices. Remember that, Grapeman? Remember that, Gramps?

I was paying literally $9/month for my power bill in 1998 during deregulation. I use less power today, in a smaller apartment. In 1998, I lived with my girlfriend. I pay $90 a month today. You have to be shitting me. How broke do you conservatives have to be before you realize you are fucking yourselves up your own ass. God damn you people are fucking dumb.
