Dude, your grow is lookin' really nice. Those plants are killin' it. I'm excited to get a smoke report, finalweight, nug pics and to see your next grow. I thought my plants were going to be finished by now, but like yours, the trichs are just shaking their heads.

What strain(s) are you running for next cycle?

Next run, I'll be taking the top two phenos I found in my BBFV and seeing which comes out on top in a comprehensive assessment of things like speed of flower, yield, aroma, potency and effect. I will largely be neglecting things like rate of stretch, degree of nutrient tolerance, cloning vigor etc. In favor of concentrating on the aforementioned qualities, though if it comes to neck and neck, I'll look at those.

Once I determine my favorite pheno from the seeds I originally started with (11), I'll be selfing her to get feminized seeds to hold onto and search through to find a better mother. One that meets or exceeds the qualities I seek but has a shorter flowering time. The goal is to find a fire pheno in those genes that features a 6 week flowering time as was advertised by the breeder. After I have a seed line I'm happy with, I plan to grab Ace's Malawi, and once I find a short-flowering keeper amongst those, I am considering crossing them. Depends on if I enjoy the stone from Malawi, as many say it's too strong (exactly what I seek), but that the high is not very chill.

With a 6 week flowering BBFV, it would be interesting to cross them with Malawi, pick the best 6 week flowering pheno from that cross (which will be rarer since Malawi is claimed to go 9-13 weeks), then cross that back to Malawi, pick the best 6 week pheno, cross that back to Malawi etc. The goal would be to acquire a 6 week flowering seed line that has most everything Malawi has including potency, and since BBFV is claimed to go up to 30%, assuming good selections of specimen are made, they shouldn't dilute the Malawi potency by much if at all.

I need your help!

I am rolling into week 10 and no amber trichs in sight. Wtf!

I’m not running chems, sours, etc…I’m running a ton of these exotic hype poly hybrids

To be honest, I though I’d be chopping around day 63

I’m at 70days and they don’t look to be close to done. As a matter of fact, I’m just starting to see cloudy trichs

Is this unusual? I shortened the light on to 11.5 hours hoping that it may encourage them to ripen up.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Post up some photos, homie. That way we can see what you're talkin' about. I know how you feel though. The strain I'm running is supposed to be done in 6-8 weeks, and even the fastest one is going to be done on week 9 by the earliest. It's annoying.

I’d be happy to post photos but I use a handheld scope and am not gonna attempt to snap photos through it

Plants have slowed down drinking, pistils are starting to retract with most of them. They’re looking done if you know what I mean.

One in particular is foxtailing (genetics) and another is throwing new pistils on lower nugs

Just kinda of odd. I’m not a noob and no better than to chop early but wtf

Things are lookin very good just shocked I’m gonna be taking them 70+ days

All of the trichomes photos I post are done with a handheld microscope. So I definitely know what you mean - it suuuucks getting a good photo of the trichs. Even the one that "looks done" to the naked eye isn't ready according to the trichs, so I'm in the same boat as you - "wtf?"

What strain are you running again? I'm assuming it should have been done by now based on breeder recommendations?

I've given up on amber trichomes before around week 9-10 for a strain or two and ended up with perfectly good bud still.

Amber trichomes, imho, are just one method of checking if it's done. If they have orange pistils, slowed water intake, and are no longer visibly growing, I'll cut 90% of the time.

That’s a great tip and appreciate the advice

I might have watered them for the last time today…let me dry out and chop on Monday/tuesday

They’re def lookin very proper

I have been waiting for mine to go all milky colored, preferably with up to 25% going amber, but I'd be fine taking 'em if the trichs were all milky. They're still swelling up and putting on mass, so. . . Guess we call it a win.

It’s important to note these ladies were flowered 6 weeks from germination. I believe I remember reading somewhere that sexually immature plants from seed usually take a week or so longer to finish up. Clones don’t have this problem because they’re the same age as the mother. Some people keep moms for years and the clones that come from them enter flowering more quickly

It’s also why breeders these days don’t guarantee their work unless vegged for 60-75 days. I’ve seen these warning on packs more often recently

It’s can throw the plant for a loop when you switch to 12/12 before 8 weeks or so. The plants aren’t pre flowering yet that is part of the what the transition takes a bit longer. Food for thought

That's really interesting to consider. All of the plants that are disappointing me now are clones of plants that were certainly old enough, but I feel that clones of immature SIZE would be likely to exhibit the same delayed flowering. I would love to see research comparing those two conditions before speaking on that with certainty though. Until then I have to just keep doing the best I can, but that's very interesting to keep in mind for future seedlings and clones. Personally I neglected veg time before this last flower so I could make phenotypic selections sooner, but I learned a lot by jumping the gun.

That's all any of us do. We're all learning. Some of us are just farther along than others. Thanks for sharing your experiences, Busman!

I think they're gorgeous. Any of 'em in particular catch your nose?
Picture five down from the top has a sour diesel nose. It’s very greasy and lime green. Takes me back 20yrs to the funk I used to get occasioanlly

Can’t wait to hang these ladies and start something new. It’ll be the first time I filled mason jars in 10yrs
