I’ve also been reading recently that some breeders ask that you veg from seed for 75 days before flowering to limit intersex potential. If you can veg that long, take cuts and flower those out.

Anyone else heard this? I don’t have the ability to keep clones and personally, the appeal of growing from seed is finding new herb and the whole reason I grow. I could run my buddies clones but he’s been growing the same four strains for 20yrs. I need variety and novel cultivars.
Yes, it has become the norm for some strains to run at least a 60-day veg before flipping to get the breeders' guarantee.

I saw this disclaimer for the first time last week but I guess it make sense. A friend said he’s run clones 3x and always threw bananas and in the fourth run, it cleared up

UPDATE: The ladies are loving life. I've moved up the light to 24in above canopy and have it firmly at 40%. They're still on 18/6 and I don't think I'll ever go back to 24hrs On in veg. The plants enjoy the rest and for someone that travels a lot and goes days without checking in, I FEEL like they drink less but that could be perception.

Either way, here's the update.

**28 Days since germination**

12 Days since transplanting into Rain Science 3galls

4hr since topping between 3rd and 4th node

They seem to be really happy. I have the environment dialed in thanks to my Pulse One. It allows me to monitor Temp, RH, VPD, Dew Point and Light. It alerts me via email/text whenever the parameters I've set are crossed. It also allows me to check in a few times a day without having to physically see the plants. Come to think of it, this Pulse One has been incredible for peace of mind (especially when out of town). We will see what happens but I'm following VPD guidelines very carefully. One last thing, when the VPD is off, it gives suggestions on how to get back on target. Maybe I need to raise my temps or lower the RH....all in all, a fun and useful gizmo.

The plan is to give them a couple of weeks to recover and to begin training a bit....and then I'll begin flowering. I'm pretty stoked!

UPDATE:

3 Days after initial topping

I'm happy with how things are going. They're responding well to being topped with a touch of LST. While they are still little ladies, I'm pinching and bending the lower branches as well as top. There are a few that are more vigorous and a bit taller than the others but for the most part, things are staying fairly level from a canopy perspective. All plants look healthy except one that is squatty, almost OGKB type textured webby fingered leaves. The nodes are incredibly tight and super thick in there.

I would like to begin flowering in two weeks but life gets in the way. three weeks it is. I do have someone stopping by and checking in (water, empty dehuey) while gone but I'm not sure if I trust them to be there for week 1 12/12. Would you trust a buddy on week 1?

I need your help/opinion on the mutant. With how she's looking and how squatty she is. Should I cull it or take her a long for the ride?

What has your experience been with mutants?

She doesn't look that bad, but depends how bad you need the space.
It’s pretty messy compared to the others. It’s gonna be packed to the gills as it is and removing one wouldn’t truly open it up

I’ll prolly just flower her with the others.

Could end up being good weed. We will see

***UPDATE***

45 days from germination
21 days since going into 3 gallons
9 days since being topped (lots of bondage, twisting, bending etc)

I'd love to give them more time to mature but I don't have the height. they're on avg about 14inches from the soil and if they double or more in flowering, i can't hold off much longer. I only have so much vertical space so figuring out the next move is crucial. What I believe the plan is to begin flowering in the next 5-7 days. Besides the runt/mutant...the canopy is staying nice and even. regret is something i dont want to have when I run out of room and the tent is packed to the gills

look at those dinosaur duckfoot leaves. Does anyone have experience with how these things end of finishing? Should I keep it, should I cull it?

This is where I need everyones help....does my plan seem sound? I fear the space is limited and remember how much foliage develops during flower. I don't want to regret not flowering them earlier.

Your ok for now don't worry friend. I think you got it in perfect timing and your plants are going to kick ass. Relax

At least from how it looks in the pics, you may have problems horizontally more than vertically if you wait too long, but 5-7 days sounds perfect, but really depends on vigor and morphology

The weird one doesn't look that weird. It looks like it's pushing out new growth. Runts often put out good bud, just not quite as much of it. Depends how it fits in with the taller ones. If it's always in the shade probably not going to be very productive.

con't....UPDATE

I have been out of town the past two weeks and have had a trusted friend make sure things were tip/top in the garden. After a couple months of using a pulse grow monitor, I love it. I can check on conditions anywhere there is a reliable internet connection. Gives me peace of mind and lets me know if I need to crank ac or dehuey.

The LEDs have been cranked to about 75% but I'm monitoring closely to ensure they're not getting to much. Protocol would call for increasing light over 4 weeks but like I said, I'm watching closely. I dont have a PAR meter and not sure I want to shell out the cash so I'm sort of winging it.

The plants are starting to stink a bit more than when they were vegging, I do have a couple stretchers out of the bunch what would you expect? This is a 9 plant seed run with four different cultivars. Doing my best to manage with LST and supercropping. Recently, I've incorporated binders clips on the bags and green trellising to keep everything spread out (you can see in the last pic).

Currently I'm adding a 1/2 teaspoon of yucca extract to 5 gallons of water....for every watering. Call me crazy but I feel the saponins have made a huge difference. The supersoil seems to be providing everything the plants need but fingers crossed it will take me another 7-8 weeks. I have used RECHARGE twice now and the plants seem to have responded well. (1/2 tsp per gallon of water). I have yet to add in blackstrap molasses but plan to use it in three days when I water.

Any questions? Any feedback?

I'm watering every 3 days to prevent a full dryback...so, water on Saturday....getting another drink on Monday.

Conditions in the tent:

72f
50% RH
VPD: Avg 1.0-1.3

I will increase VPD over the next few weeks, which for me means bringing down the relative humidity.

Do you still have the Ginger Tea ? That’s one of my favorites that I have run
I decided against it on this run. I have a few ginger teas and killer bees from CSI that I did last year. Some very unique terps and will revisit soon. I don't have space to keep clones and I have an obsession with popping seeds. I will almost exclusively be growing from seed.

I did snag a few packs of the Notso Dog/CSI/Breeder Syndicate packs. Those might be on deck but to be honest, I want to try a few auto flowers...im intrigued to be honest....the CSI stuff will be popped this winter.

I have the flo rida/f1 durb, notso's headband crossed to TK, Chem91, Chem 1 and bubba kush

I have a couple of the taller plants lookin a bit yellow. I've dialed down the light 5% but thinking I need a bloom boost.

Does anyone have experience top dressing with super soil? I also have all the amendments used to make supersoil that I can top dress with....

I'm also using Recharge....the ladies should not be out of fuel as they all received the same amount of SS and the 7 others lookin nice and green.

Also, noticing a gnat infestation. I have yellow sticky traps and mosquito dunks otw, any other ideas?

Flower Day 19
Things are moving along and I've been battling gnats but some mosquito dunks and yellow sticky traps have reduced the infestation. What VPD do you all shoot for early early flower? I'm trying to keep it between 1.1-1.3 but understand I need to get closer to 1.5 towards the end of flower. I have two fans running 24hrs/day just barely kissing the tops of the plants, making them dance.

I've been watering each time with some yucca extract and every other (about once a week) gets some RECHARGE. I did top dress them all with some seabird guano, kelp meal and EWC. While the tents smells like shit, the plants seem to be loving it. Hoping it "greens" up the 2 of 3 that seem to be a bit lighter than the other.
IMG_4501.JPG

This is the space, limited area but seems to do okay. Temps have been averaging 72.5 and RH has been 55 the past 7 days. The average VPD is 1.2, which I think it acceptable for early flower. I do know I can really crank the RH down with this dehuey when I need to.

I have dolomite lime in the soil and it's been mixed and activated for 6 weeks before using...do you feel as though I should top dress with more or potentially make a tea?

NEED HELP.

Ive found, what I think, male flowers on a few of the ladies. They dont look like calyx's to me but more like a ball on a stick. I haven't found any clusters and nothing that has popped. found early, i've been picking them off. it only seems to be on three plants and only on lowers that dont get a bunch of light.

im popping a bunch of s1s, truly exotic polyhybrids...gelato, cookie, sherb, trop, crosses.

is it normal with cookie type exotic to get a few males flowers in week 3 or 4? IF I PICK EM, will the come back.

environment has been dialed. avg temp is 73, RH around 50% and VPD is 1.2 on average. Im 21 days into flower
