You know you live in the country if......

I found a dead hummingbird underneath the edge of a wire mesh cover I put over some seedlings. Looks like it was trying to get to the seedlings or the wet dirt and then got enmeshed and couldn't escape.

I was trying to protect the seedlings, not design a trap !

I put the bird's body in the front pocket of my hill-walking/ mountain climbing parka.

Will bury it somewhere respectful.

A bit of a paradox, I feel respect for the dead bird yet it was my man-made contraption that killed it.

Sorry about the llama. I remember you were worried about a black rabbit having to live with them. Are you gonna bring another? Got a small horse who lived for years with a mule, then the mule died and he was a sorry picture. I put him with the cows and now seems more or less used to them. Those type of animals tend to bond a lot, and you got horses too, i think. How are the llamas with horses?

Sorry I missed your post.yeah it sucks.the lone llama is probably hurting.got 3 male horses but it's not the same.the llama's mother died at birth so we fed it in the kitchen and took care of it.sucks big.

Yeah I got this rabbit.i don't wanna just let it go but it's chewing my cords and carpet up.and yeah, they are social animals.fuck I'm so country I don't know where to start.im thinking of trying to get to an animal shelter or something.i saved the damn thing.it was all caged in a 2x2 cage it's whole life so I tried to help.guess I fucked up.it lives good though

I get tired of reading about the cops sweeping homeless encampments.

OF COURSE homeless folks are going to sleep in a forest area near a river near a bridge.

I had been walking in a forest where there are a lot of feral cats, and feeding them.

Now I want to visit the Feral People.

Maybe the cops are jealous because the homeless people get free camping in a spot with some natural beauty.

..... the problem is, you're just reading about it, when you visit a camp you may come away with a different perspective.

One of my favourite quotes, from my granny (she died in 1984). I hated school in town and wanted to stay in the village:
"Life in the countryside degrades, impoverishes and brutalizes". I constantly repeat it to the youngsters in the family.

The Dog Day Cicada are hatching all over the place, as usual.

The Hawks and Owls fly all over; eating them like popcorn! :lurk:
