Why is medical marijuana so expensive?

That company agrees to grow that pot for the government at that price, that is their choice. Doesn't mean that it costs that for everyone.

Read up on all the growers whose shit was ripped and are being prosecuted and all the dispensary owners who are sitting in jail right now. Illness is not by choice but just because you have an illness doesn't entitle you to shit man. If I have erectile dysfunction that doesn't entitle me to enzyte. Not to mention that there are plenty of drugs out there that don't cost shit to you because of insurance that treat the same thing. You might not want to take them but that is your choice to treat yourself with something not covered by insurance.

Here in the NorthWest the price has gone up with the medical EVERYware now! now people want $300+ for shwag! some of the prices people are talking about in here $500-$800 an OZ WTF!!!!!!! ARE you growers trying to make Forbes? So for the say $500 you can put together a dam good 400watt setup and make all your money back your first crop and all in the green after that.
Whats it really cost to grow an OZ for you? For me about $30 an oz! and thats a HIGH number. Time for the $100 an OZ revolution and put the big boys out of biZZZZZ!!!!!

I supply my patients with a free 2.5 ounces a month, and charge 200/ounce there after, most are not real heavy users so they have more then enough.

Arbitrary price point. And if you aren't the one getting ripped off why do care? If other people pay more and are happy doing so because they get the quality they want, then so be it. I would rather drop 400 on an oz of properly flushed and cured bud than 200 or the same bud improperly flushed and cured. And the price will be 200 an oz if safety becomes less of a problem and restrictions are out of the window, but hey that will be a while. Even then the market will stratify itself into quality levels where some will still be top dollar and others will not be. Look at wine, there is plenty of wine in the world but you can still go drop a couple bills on a bottle and boy is it ever a pleasure to do so.

I have never met a commercial grower that sells for more than 250$/oz. Some dude who grows a half pound in his closet and sells half of it to cover ends is going to charge a lot more. but saying that something should cost a certain price is ridiculous without the details of what went into growing it.
if I grow in compliance with 215/420 and sell for about $200/oz I earn about the same money annually as a full time nurse. my wife, who also works on the grow also earns a similar annual income. many growers don't even manage that much because it takes good organizational skills to actually turn a profit as with any business. granted, there are some making the big bucks with huge ops, but they are illegal grows and you then have to add back the risk of legal costs and prison into figuring what the ganja is worth.
the reality here is that you views only have merit if you make irrational assumptions about the marketplace.
Kickers: I think we will be seeing ganja for $100/oz from the grower in the next year, depending on how the Kelley Supreme Court decision plays out. The higher quality herbs, like good wine, will remain at its price of around $150-$200 depending on the market supply at the time of sale (at least for the next year) and the best of the best of the best (indoor) will still price out at just under $250.
Better prices can be had direct from the grower with a minimum of organization by consumers. Get together a group and purchase by the pound.
When you say "schwag for $300" what are you talking about? Please describe the herb.

Labor is the dispensaries biggest expense. It's that way with most businesses. Includes lawyers on retainer and all people getting paid to perform some duty connected with the business.
I grow my own for $13.935 an ounce. It's not a job or source of income.
$27.87 breaks down to $.05 for nutes and water. $27.82 is electricity including fan and timer.
Wow! 30 bucks for liquid magic and people complain about my 1/2 tsp of MG or Schultz per grow among plants. The stuff has to be harsh and chemical tasting. It would be 5 pounds of my stuff. And I dare compare the two. Well, it is commercial....

Where do the disabled MMJ patients possibly get $700 for an ounce since it's not covered by medicaid/medicare? That's more than they get from SSDI & the state per month in most states...

Like I said before, pot is only expensive because it's illegal.
Obviously it's not expensive because it takes more brain power then being a nurse.
Nurses usually have college educations. It's hard doing what they do. It's relatively easy growing pot compared to being a nurse so why should an uneducated person with an easy job make as much as an intelligent educated person?
