What is Skunk?

These are both Sam's at ten weeks. Now I've grown out his stock, I'm better qualified to judge on his abilities than I was.
The taller one 'A' is a sour turps/floor-cleaner/disinfectant/vomit kind of a smell. The fat one 'C' is more of a hashy spicy smell. Neither are sweet or fruity. Both are growing like weed is going out of fashion. I have had zero problems with them, other than they're a bit slow, the yield per plant will be amazing, given their size, and one of them may even be the RKS pheno for all I know. Not having skunks in the UK it's hard to tell.

But I consider this superlative breeding, and for £9.95 for TEN seeds, it's the bargain of a lifetime....oh, and the super-sweet fruity pheno, which I chopped last week is dry, I'm smoking it right now, and it is very strong indeed... :joint:

Pheno 'A'

Pheno 'C'

Heh - I forgot - my ex-girlfriend's on her way over. She knows what skunks smell like, as she's lived in the US and Canada, and her ex got sprayed a couple of times by a skunk. And she ran over one last year, so if she can describe the smell to me, at least I'll know what the hell everyone's on about at last - and whether I have it...:)

anyone can can grow plants and cross them back and forth to make slightly different new ones, it may take a while to do that but it can be done.

Sure, but it does not belittle those who do it good. In order to be a good breeder, you need experience, facilities and a pair of green thumbs. With experience, you can work efficiently, with adequate facilities, you'll have a bigger selection of plants to choose from, and with dash of genius you can spot a winner among a high number of plants. You also need a big dose of discipline and patience, to stabilize that strain and make it workable. It shouldn't discourage those that start from scratch in their closets, but listening to those who've been there and done that can save you a lot of time and effort.

thing is that "sam" says he has some old original skunk seeds but wont let anyone else get their hands on them. if he's not willing to listen to his customers and provide what they want, then the customers should boycott anything he sells. and it seems to me like he's either a liar or a selfish bastard!! cos as i said earlier... if i had some rare seeds i would hand them over to a breeder in an instant and im sure many other people would do the same!!

Sam doesn't owe you, me or anyone a thing, he has done more for the cause than most of us already. He could retire now and still be the champ. Whatever beans he has lying around are his to do what he feels like with.
Boycott? Selfish bastard? Come on, it's getting out of proportion...

What is skunk? I don't fucking know I guess

Its real simple. Skunk is an herb that smells identical to a skunk.

I don't see it that way. Skunk becomes "Skunk" because of its lineage, not its smell.
My Sour Diesels don't particularly smell of sour diesel, still they're "Sour Diesel"
The strain named Chemdog was later renamed Diesel, because other growers thought that name was better in regards to its smell. Same strain, different names.

An Afghan that smells of roadkill Skunk will still be an Afghan.

I've seen posts by schroomy420 listing skunk #2 as part of his clone collection. Anyone with any experience with it??

skunk is skunk because of it's smell....where does skunk play a part in it's lineage? even sam said it was named skunk because it reeked like skunk when he named it...then later changed it.

what SD do you grow? every SD i've seen or smoked or smelled was sour, it all depends on the stage it's in at the time...gets more diesely towards the end.

chemdog was named chemdog because they thought it had a chemmy taste, the east coast kids didn't like the name so they changed it to diesel....either way it has something to do with the product.....so where does sweet fit in with skunk?

if we could find an afghan that was roadkill no one would be in here having this conversation.

so i suppose the logical question is...

do you believe the RKS you've experienced is from Sam's old stock, or is it something completely unrelated?.... what years was it around?

that is a logical question, i'm not sure if it was or if it wasn't. he said he had a rolled doobie of skunk in a bag that reeked like skunk in an earlier post so it very well could be...it could be unrelated to, that's kinda what we are trying to figure out.....he said skunk#1 is sweet and skunk#2 is skunky....so until he releases skunk#2 we won't know forsure....and if he decides not to ever release skunk#2 i guess we'll never know.

GBS... Good question. I've had a bunch of different Skunk #1's and nothing resembled the Road Kill Skunk I'm familiar with.

When I speak of Skunk... I'm talking about a very distinct smell... doubt it has anything to do with the sicky, soft sweetness of Skunk #1.

here's schroomy's mother list.....i don't see skunk#1 or skunk#2....i see sweet skunk....that is a really good name for a skunk strain that is sweet. all this and he'd love to find the real rks....that speaks for itself.

you would think somebody who know somebody that knows somebody that has roadkill skunk....wether it be skunk#2 or some other skunk or hybrid. the people that do have it probably are never online, probably some hillbillies hiding up in the hills somewhere puffin rks like no ones business.

you'd think eventually we'd stumble across someone that has it, it's been a steady search for quite a few yrs though....hopefully the light will shine on us skunk lovers soon.

Ahhh, JLP, the unkindest cut of all...

So now it's all about the size, JLP? Has it come down to "mine is bigger than yours." Pretty childish, you'd have to admit.

I've never claimed to be a "breeder" or a big-time grower, so I'm not sure what your point is regarding the little cabinet I remain so proud of. You don't need to be one of the big-three auto manufacturers in order to state that cars are spreading pollution, and you don't need to grow thousands of plants to state that certain "breeders" are full of shit.

My point is that Sam the Not-So-SkunkyMan and Rez the Bid Shiller have no more special talent than the average vegetable gardener, but because these two are growing cannabis, that's supposed to make them somehow cool or special or elite, and it appears that you along with so many others have bought into the bullshit.

Your post about my cabinet says a lot more about you than it does about me, JLP. I thought you were better than that.

I would be willing to bet my last dollar that someone somewhere does have a cut of RKS . There are alot of peopel that dont get online or lurk that have strains that we never heard of or havent seen in a long time. I have a friend in OR who gros old clone onlys from area and has one plant that would make any smoker fall on their ass. But he isnt online and dont trade. Unless you know him ( my brother fom another mother for at least 17 years) .

PS: Angel eyes, take your beef with JLP somewhere else. We dont need you trashing a respected member of this site and get our thread binned. If you have a problem with JLP ( Whom sent you something out of kindness) take it to a pm.

How could the thread get binned? It's JLP's forum!

Anyway, unlike about 95% of the people here, I'm willing to butt heads with a moderator or anyone else if I think they're full of it, and on this subject, I think JLP is full of it.

He was willing to throw a small grower (me) under the bus in order to try and impress a couple of big "breeders." Trying to embarass someone for being a small grower is pretty small in the first place.

I have just as much right as anyone to say that I think these so-called breeders are just guys who grow dope. If you or anyone else wants to take that as a criticism of growing dope, that your misunderstanding, not mine.

They are dope growers, and all I object to is their constant arrogance and rudeness which is based on the false notion that they have special talents. They don't. They are dope growers, not genetic miracle-workers.

Now that I'm sitting here thinking about it, Mr. Nevermind, you are a perfect example of the person who piles on a guy only when it's certain that everyone else is going to pile on. "Wow, if JLP doesn't like this guy, that means it's safe for me to go after him." How weak.

well i hope you guys find your RKS cut, it sounds like something you are really passionate about.

i do find it a bit odd that you want to grow out something that smells like rotting flesh, but i'd never judge ya! hopefully you make a huge buzz, and rotten smelling strains become the rage, then i can buy the sweet strains on a bargain, peace!

Dude calm down. I am not "piling up on you" as you say. i dont give a fuck about you enough to attempt a pile on. This thread is about Skunk, not your beef with JLP. Im the perfect example of a guy who dont give a fuck about you. you could do a nose dive of a cliff or win the lottery, makes no difference to me. i would rather just keep the thread open. As MOD , JLP can bin theis thread or ban you at his leasure . You donthave freedom of speech here, sorry. Keep bashing breeders and you'll end up banned.

Take it to PM's with JLP if you got something to say to him. Not airing out business in this thread. JLP has given out many beans and all are pleased with his kind gestures. Perhaps if you have issue with what he sent you could address it like a man and being the man that JLP is he would send you replacmemts and you would be happy. But instead you bash the guy. You get more flies with honey than you do vinegar

it dont smell like rotting flesh. just smells like a skunk sprayed. Which i must admit downst sound appealing at all, but it actually is. Its the herb people like time2unite , myself and a few others smoked a good bit of and are quite fond of it. Its quite strng for how old it is

What a bunch of assholes I see here, most of you idiots dont even have a clue what Sam has done you silly twats, ok, first of all: it was his choice, a choice of taste so to say to start breeding for that sweet skunk not the roadkill, I sure understand the good sides of the sweet one as I have smoked some excellent cheese and have grown Sam's Skunk#1, and indeed all of those plants had a sweet taste and smell but still that skunk undertone is there...the roadkill smellingl stuff we had here was bought from Amsterdam around 1986-87 from shiva knows what shop and is now long gone but the old guy had the clone mother for around 10 years and it didnt get worse at all...and another 60 year old grower from here has had his hazes and skunk for almost 3 decades now, kinda odd eh? "people were talking about skunk before sam the skunkman and had skunk before sam the skunkman" OK. this explains it all, so what? I dont know if he is the first person to call it that but sure as hell he was the first one to sell seeds called Skunk#1 as far as I know...but anyhoo, I wouldnt bash Sam, he has done amazing job breeding cannabis you ignorant fuckers.

Oh yeah, this bud, even if immature and fresh, has a lot of the roadkill smell we are talking about, OHxSk#1, maybe just a odd pheno, who knows, peace.
