What is Skunk?

G

Guest

I would humbly like to chime in.
I have been seeking the RK for forever also.
Well, since I first tasted it in 1985-90.....
The closest I have come is from two lots of seeds.
-Sensi's Shiva skunk #2, it has the Garlic in its' cross to an affie. A hippie armpit type skunk that can be truly awfull in flower. but is mostly lost when dried and tastes boring.

the basic D from rezdog.
which is Heirloom SSSC Skunk #1/Basic Diesel (aka M39) x ECSD.
there is a phenotype in there that is as acrid as a burning rubber skunk.
and I come from the land of the skunks.
Actually, I believe to smell the true skunk smell one must have some distance between you and the skunk. too close and it smells like urea, (piss) burning rubber, garlic and petrolium distalates.
No wonder Sam was trying to isolate the sweeter tastes. hhrmm!

Unfortunatly this phenotype gave me a little headache and Nausea. So I only kept it for a few runs and made seeds of cource but had to let it go.
It was columnar (donky shaped) and the buds were very very light green in color because of all the leaf that blocked the interior of the bud from receiving light. It did have a lot of resin though. almost no hairs showing but thats also because of all the leaf material. (my real gripe with it) But it did have the skunk taste on exhale so I tried to smoke a bunch of it. But I remember the skunk made us so silly and giggly we couldn't get out of the car to get the ice cream we drove there to get. This was not like this.

me and sam chatted back in forth in PM.....do you know what was said? no... so before you do know then don't go running off at the lips. we both understand where we both are coming from. he told me to keep what we said and things he told me in private because he wants it to stay private. i learned alot from what we talked about, so where u come up with me being a breeder hater is bs.....u can go back and check my posts in the beginning saying no diss at sam....and i'm not hating. go back and count the posts where i said no diss or props to sam for creating a strain and going in the direction he thought was best.

but at the same time i'm not an ass kisser, me along with many others want a roadkilling skunk strain.....not a skunk thats sweet.....just because we speak up and don't agree on everything doesn't make us haters.

here might be some good news for us skunky skunk lovers though

There ya go. The point is not to attack each other, but to share wha†*we have learned.
We aren't discussing breeders but their plants. So if you don't like something you don't have to smoke it. We all like RKS, but you have to give props.

You know pong was the first video game, it seems lame now. But the guy who made it had to work really hard to get it going. All other games built off that start.
It may be a bad comparison, but Sam seems to have started one of the first stable lines that is still be used today. SO SK #1 is off the table of you are looking for the old school skunk.

WHen I bought DJ's Blueberry, I was hoping to find a plant*that well, tastes like blueberry. Not that big of a leap.

Peace, grow some out*and have fun.

damn... this thread turned into quite an arguement on lots of diferent levels

being new to amsterdamn genetics.. i will say this

i remember seing the old catalogs back in the day (musta been like 12 years ago) sensi seed i believe... back in the days when their was no way you were getting seeds sent here to the USA..

and the Skunk... i always assumed it would smell like skunk.

Why? because of the name

also to mention.. i had seen/smelt weed that was "skunky" and assumed that this plant was a super heightened version of that

i have still never grown any of these skunk strains from amsterdamn but have grown bagseed that came out very very skunky... roadkill or not.. i know how skunk smells, they get hit on the road in New England allover (the summer time ussually)... and i have really really come to like the smell..

it really reminds me of certain fresh outdoor plants i have grown

so in that.. i cant understand why these amsterdamn skunk-marketed varities dont smell like skunk.. and why they are allowed to still be called that if so..

at the same time,... hey i am sure some of the bagseeds ive grown have sweet skunk heritage, as that "sweet" smell has a simlar odor... but not quite the same.. cant explain it..

hope someone brings it back.. and doesnt put a super high price tag on it either..

peace to you all, no disrespect ever intended

bILL

The RKS we use to get around here in the mid 90's was so pungent that one nug in a bag placed in your pocket could smell up the entire room you were sitting in. I remember it to be very light green, almost neon. It had bright orange hairs (not many) that contrasted in such a way with the light green that it almost looked as though it was glowing. One small pipe load and we were ready to party. Never was a down type of high and with one 20 bag you could party all night long. That's the RKS I remember.

This is the Skunk I have been looking for for a long long time. But, I still do love the sweet skunk, and have to say it is one of my top five strains. Nothing smells nicer than a sweet smelling pungent skunk - but like I stated, i'm still looking for the old school smell. Variety in Skunk is nice!

The answer is that Rez and Sam and the other phony "breeders" are just guys who grow weed and cross weed and play with weed like anyone else could who has the time or the space or the inclination to grow weed. Big fucking deal.

The Rez's of the world have all of you fooled into believing that they are the modern-day Luther Burbanks or Gregor Mendels of the world, creating something never before seen on the plant fucking earth. It's weed, you dumbasses, and anyone who cares to play around with the plant for long enough will come up with something interesting.

Sam and Rez are not geniuses. The only way that these guys could be considered geniuses is in relation to the stupid asses who think Sam or Rez or the rest are so uniquely gifted in the science of genetics that they've actually done something new or interesting. It's just weed, folks.

Now line up, all of you ass-lickers with underdeveloped egos who need to believe that a phony like Rez actually likes you or cares about you. Line up and attack me and believe that it will somehow make Rez notice you like your father never did. Dumbasses.

you are correct, anyone can can grow plants and cross them back and forth to make slightly different new ones, it may take a while to do that but it can be done.

thing is that "sam" says he has some old original skunk seeds but wont let anyone else get their hands on them. if he's not willing to listen to his customers and provide what they want, then the customers should boycott anything he sells. and it seems to me like he's either a liar or a selfish bastard!! cos as i said earlier... if i had some rare seeds i would hand them over to a breeder in an instant and im sure many other people would do the same!!

reeferman is coming out with a tribute to sam and a skunk line of seeds. His genetics are some of the best in the business and his skills are reputable and respected. Maybe he will have a road kill version? Either way I love skunk sweet or stinky and after the first few hits I cant taste shit anyway. If I wanted taste Id smoke a steak. I go for the high first and foremost.

The skunk pheno of Super Silver Haze can reek like roadkill skunk. I had one that any time I had a bag in my pocket, someone would ask if I hit a skunk or something. My Lemon Swiss can also smell quite skunky in the bag (I've had old ladies sitting beside me at an outdoor play saying "wow, it really stinks like a skunk here...".
Hmm, I've never actually smelled a Skunk (the animal) so I'm not sure what it's supposed to be like. I do have some KC Brains' Haze Special here that smells of catpiss.

Mocos said:

This pretty much sums it up. It's like K2 only a lot more pungent. Citrus gone bad...

But if this is what's described as a Skunky smell you could as well say there's not much else available in local coffeeshops here in the Netherlands. There's lots of strains that have this catpiss/citrus smell up to a certain extent, but what's actually sold as 'Skunk' here smells a little more sweet. This makes the true Skunk sweet and all others derivatives of Roadkill Skunk. But then the market here's flooded with Roadkill or similar smelling strains. So everyone's just looking for the Ultimate Stinker? Is that the whole story?

Now I see why Sam must have opted for the sweet Skunk instead of the roadkill variety. There's so many 'roadkill-strains' already today, so he probably had some visionary thoughts.

A great tree attracts the wind, so as long as it doesn't degrade into 'bashing' these breeders shouldn't feel offended so easily. The same goes for the posters in this thread who are trying to be offensive. Let's all just communicate with our feet on the ground and let our ego's aside. Sorry if I contributed to this with my previous posts, I was just being curious after having read the comments in which people brag about the number of plants they've grown, yet no-one seems to dare answer my question.

I'm just going to grow these seeds again and I'll discover for myself whether they'll produce any nice plants. Sweet Skunk, Roadkill Skunk, I don't give a flying F. as long as I find a plant that produces tasty buds. If it's catpiss you're after then try growing some K2's or better still: Haze Special.

And relax, it's just a plant... :bandit:

Yeah,I like that post by angel Eyes,he's a real full blown authority on Cannabis.
Here's a pic from AE's gallery.I assume it's his grow, either that or it's a failed attempt at making his own E-Z Bake oven.

There's nothing wrong with CFLs,but kids growing in sock drawers have no business calling people like Sam and Rez so called breeders.

I'm gonna go against the trend and support sam the skunkman.

He bred the strain that I am growing out, and it not only germed 100%, it grew with vigor, so much so I was racing home each night before lights on so I could situate the grow before the power went on. My boy showed sex at 3 weeks from seed, my girl 10 days into 12/12. The hairs are pumping out left and right and she is gaining weight like rosy odonnell in a chocolate factory.

I'm a newbie, and I'm growing a strain people call very newbie unfriendly. I make my mistakes, then I bang my head on the grow light and make some more. And still, this little girl keeps on packing on weight at amazing speeds.

there is a problem with humans in general, we try to show our superiority not by raising ourselves up, but by pushing others down. many of us are in this thread.

What is skunk? I don't fucking know I guess, cause from this thread it seems that it sucks, but the stuff I'm growing is likely only possible to a newbie like me in an indoor grow because it has been infused with Sam's Skunk.

peace

Its real simple. Skunk is an herb that smells identical to a skunk. No sweet smells to it. I never smelled a skunk that prayed sweet stuff out of its ass. There is no sweet in skunk, sorry. For those that dont understand, sorry you must not have ever has real RKS so you may not understand .

I put it this way. If you come to my place and i make you an apple pie.. you smell apples and cinnamon and it tastes accordingly. I fyou come back to my place and want another apple pie like i had previously given you and you smell blueberries rather than apples and i tell you that this blue pie is an apple pie would you beleive me? Nope because they are two different things with different taste and smell to it. If you want an apple pie i cant serve yuou blueberry pie and tell you its apple. I have to tell you its a blueberry pie and tastes and smells nothing like apples. Same as skunk. If i give you RKS and you like it and come back asking for it again and i give you a sweet smelling strain and cal it skunk you would look at me a little funny. Skunk is skunk. Sweet is sweet.

If i want sweet i can get sweet tooth or C99 because they advertise it as such and the name ( like sweet tooth) implies its a sweet smelling strain . skunk implies its a skunky strain yet its sweet and has no trace of skunk to it. Thats my issue with it. Like Time2unite and i talked about last night. Form now on i call skunk #1, sweet #1, cuz thats what it is. A sweet strain that is good for breeding, but nothing remenicent of a skunk. Same even said the taste is deiiferent , the smell is different and so is the high. So sweet #1 is not skunk. its another strain, sorry

Too funny JLP, the only thing that I have tried from Sam is citrocity and it is a very nice strain, very vigorous and a great high. Not overpowering but very nice after about a month of cure. It is a Calio hybrid. I don't know the other side of the genetics, but it is very good in my opinion. By the way, who can talk smack on Sam when he is one of the guys that seems to have dedicated his life to producing top notch genetics for us to enjoy?

There's a chance I have a zillion beans of this, but somehow all the Skunk-specialists have taken refuge from this thread. I still don't know which Skunk#1 is supposed to be the roadkill variety and which one should be sweet. If you still remember those plants' stature you can compare them to the female I posted earlier in this thread and tell me what kind of Skunk I have. :D

Well, Mad,,,,, best I can say is start growing - your looking for a particular pheno in a pretty wide ranging strain - Good luck and perserverence will help; on the bright side - you should have enough stash where you won't be running out.

My take about Sam,, I have tried 2 of Sam's offerings early on and both failed misserabley - on the same token I have had 100% success with strains and breeders that some others have had fail.

I don't jump at every possible conclusion as much anymore, sometimes it's just dumb luck

On the sweet skunk - what I have called sweet skunk, others call bubblegum. Around here, we seldom get strain names - it's all graded by quality - really good, good and commercial brick.

I picked up some Dutch Passion Skunk #1 seeds because of the low price just to give them a try. I didn't have any skunky phenos out of that pack. They are not even sweet, kinda like a rotting smell. The smoke is good, just not skunk smell. I have a pack of sams skunk #1 I still need to try out.
