WHAT ARE YOU EATING TODAY?

she doesn't fish, she doesn't like shrimp...why did you marry her again ? you sound like me actually. only thing my wife and i have in common is our kids. at least, she SAYS they are mine...
When I travel the world or head to the bush, now that we're past the foot-loose stage of pre-children when we'd travel together, or when we had very young children and we all went together, she takes care of the garden(s) and the dogs and supports me in many ways.

It's actually a good match, though she may head to the Yukon Territory with me this July with the 2 German shepherds.

Hopefully the plants and garden will survive our absence.

I sort of mastered absences of 5-7 days with no one here, leaving mothers in their cupboards, with the LED 4' tubes turned off in the cupboards, with the fans turned off, and just enough water that with no air movement, they don't get too bone dry, and they don't sponsor mold/fungus. It's a balancing act but can be done.

That said, I've not tried the same approach with the plants that 9- or 10-days absence might bring.

Was hoping I felt well enough to write a bunch of long, insightful responses in this thread, especially to moose eater. But not only are my lungs focked from getting Covid and Whooping Cough in a 6 week period... which focking sucks for an RRT who hasn't smoked/vaped in 6+ years. 🤮

A 69-year-old focking great grandpa getting focking Whooping Cough???? And Harley getting it the same time??? First time in 37 years of a relationship, for people who worked in _critical_ care, highly infectious environments, we both got sick at the same focking time!!!

We're finally getting over it. This thing focked both of us like we've never experienced... couldn't eat, sounded like a TB Ward with all the coughing/hacking/whooping, we were sure we were going to either stroke out, have a heart attack, or blow a pneumothorax. We Rolled With It and came out the other side.

On the positive side and to bring this back around on topic, at least my appetite is starting to come back. Harley's doing better too, so this is what we ate last night:

Would give you all the particulars, but I'm getting ready to start coughing/hacking again.:ROFLMAO:😂:ROFLMAO:😂:ROFLMAO:🤮

moose eater, I understand "estrangement" (I hate that term but people understand what it means) from one/some of your kids. Thankfully, for Harley and I, that shit ended a year or two ago and has been more or less resolved, thanks to my daughters now divorced husband/my ex son-in-law. For us, that shit lasted 10 years. :(😭

Never give up hope!!!

I mean _no_ disrespect whatsoever to you pop_rocks (I frequently piss off people I like without knowing about it, with my not so humble opinions ;)). I absolutely love your posts and where you live in SD, the only place in CA I would relocate to... just couldn't afford the La Jolla nursing homes now. :ROFLMAO:

But... here in the SouthEast mountains, we would laugh at that being called biscuits and gravy. :) Store-bought biscuits, probably Jimmy Dean sausage crumbled up in that milky / flowery mess that probably tastes more like paste than gravy.

Just like us SouthEastern folks couldn't do fish tacos the way they should really be done in SD, biscuits and gravy anywhere other than the SouthEast would probably make me hurl.😂

😯

_Real_ red eye gravy will not only make your toes curl, it'll wake your ass up like you could never imagine.(y) No flour in red eye gravy whatsoever, nothing but country ham renderings, jet black coffee and pepper mixed together, and boiled down to a thicker consistency.

With the heavy Scotch/Irish influence here in the SouthEast, it's hard for me to imagine that anyone from GB would consider biscuits sweet and cookie like here in th U.S., but then again, the immigrants from GB in the SoutheEast, in the early 1900s, we're not exactly the tea and crumpets crowd. :ROFLMAO:😂:ROFLMAO:
wow, how did i miss this post earlier
no disrespect taken my friend and i am always open to new ideas (especially when they concern gravy!)
im not a baker so i dont make the best biscuits but i understand you just want to cut the fat into the flour enough to make a dough
the less you mess with it the better
but im interested in your gravy! that is the star of the show? i like to whisk the flour and fat emulsion so its smooth as silk and then add in the chunks of sausage
i like hearing about variations on good foods!
enjoy every bite my friend!

i cant even get into the la jolla nursing homes!
/i tried climbing over their fence

With it being fathers day my daughter ❤ brought me back a roast sirloin of beef dinner with all the trimmings, was a really enjoyable meal and surprise followed by a slice of oreo cheese cake (I'm chuffed 😋 to bits) as I wasn't expecting it..

Happy fathers day peeps...

Thank you my friend 👍 I find any type of food tends to taste better when cooked/served by somebody else besides yourself 😆

we can get it frozen all year round. but right now is hunting season, so we get it fresh in the market. never tried any other type of whale, we only hunt the minke. other types of whale was mostly caught for their blubber for oil making. thankfully that's a thing of the past. taste is very difficult to describe, a hint of game and a bit of liver but good. (don't like liver)

Sounds interesting , would the minke be known for carrying high levels of Mercury?

it says they grow up to 20,000 lbs(9k/kg)
how are they caught? you arent hand lining that thing
do they have a whale market? like where you can buy fresh meat like with all the fish?
when you say taste like liver does it taste like iron?
