be careful, you can ignore it as much as you want if you get exposed to too much of it and are not in excellent health it can fuck you up in a matter of days. not everyone can get their hands on antibody cocktails transfusions. fresh air sunlight and healthy food and exersice will better the odds, but with age the danger certainly statistically increases exponentially.

very worried about my neighbour, she's 98 and was taken to hospital with fever yesterday. they came with full protective suits and masks and goggles to get her, poor lady. damn hospital won't even answer if she is positive or not and she is too old to work out how to use their internal phone system so no news now for 24 hours. she's a very tough lady, she been struggling with the stairs up and down rain or shine. they been telling her she should move to assisted living. but she wants to stay home as long as possible. she's had a couple of falls in the last few years and each time i think that's it, she won't be allowed home, but she always proved everyone wrong, just a week ago she managed the 2 flights. so yeah, hope she will surprise everyone again. although i heard her loudly tell them she doesn't want resuscitation should the question arise. tough old bird as the Brits put it.

I think that mods are entitled to their opinion as is everyone else. For the hours of work and endless cleanup done they can only be thanked and appreciated.
That said, engaging in political conversation can be explosive. People do and say things behind a keyboard that they might not ordinarily do and situations can escalate rather quickly. I'm not blaming or inferring guilt by saying that HH was disagreeing. From what I read there, I did think brandishing the banning stick was a bit heavy handed. You don't post on forums so that everyone can agree with you. That's what is. I just think that having the power to ban should make mods a couple steps more tolerant and open minded to see the conversation through and make sure there is no other way to resolve the problem.
As a non-mod participant, my job is to test out where the boundaries are every now and then. If the ball goes out of bounds, call it and then we know.
Same goes with the power to unban. If someone does the favor of unbanning then they should have some responsibility for that persons behavior thereafter. The only person who should be exempt from that responsibility is the boss (because he makes the rules).
Even if I disagree with you sometimes, I do appreciate what you do and having this place to kick the ball around some. It reminds me of a local pub I used to hang in.
Speaking of mods, my post with the interview with the South Korean scientist in March advising the wearing of masks for the whole world, including Switzerland and the USA swept away apparently in the clean up.
Yeah, being a mod must be like the guy that works in the elephant pen at the zoo. You know the guy with the big scoop. Every time ol Nifty drops another one he's gotta run and get the dam scoop again.

btw we have been wearing masks here for ages now. you even see them on the street more now, but inside they are mandated and shops who don't force their customers to do it get shut down. happened to a local vegan market, lmao. they thought their veganism made them above the law. they just openly let anyone in without a mask, someone reported them, cops sent under covers in to test it and bam, business shut down.

We have literally had people on this board talk openly about murdering protesters, we have entire threads full of conspiracy theories about minorities and leftists, and all throughout that we have had personal insults left and right without any moderator intervention.... but I use one mildly insulting generational reference and it gets x'd out? This is why I come here less and less. Hundreds of pages of unpleasant crap, but pushing back against it requires kid gloves apparently. Its just really really tiring arguing basic civility with people. Like, basic stuff like not shooting people in the face for sort of looking a certain way. I think the plan here for a lot of folks is to just badger badger badger until one side or the other gets tired of it and then echo chamber mode may commence. If real discussion were at the heart of most of these threads I would feel differently. I would love to be able to sit back and be ok with so many here believing such heinous and ignorant garbage, but unfortunately those very attitudes are absolutely trashing our system with no realistic plan to replace it.
"Bring jobs back to America" sounds awesome and all until you realize that our entire system really works against that, and that our industrial base is so utterly gutted that its going to take decades to rebuild it. That will basically put us where China was in the mid 70s, and that is NOT a place I am ok with our nation going. We have to have clear and detailed plans and our maverick president prefers to golf and talk about screwing his daughter, but seems a little lost on even the smallest details of most of the things he is in charge of.
The Biden apologists aren't much better, but at least most of them realize that they're actually getting a compromised piece of garbage instead of deifying and idealizing him the way Trump's deluded fan club does. This is 2020 and we're just not going to get good things this year, and maybe some of us are pretty sore about that.

There's definitely massive animosity throughout society. There's this downward spiral of all these things that made America so strong for a while, and mostly both parties offer different visions of who to blame for it all(Democrats blame Russia, Republicans blame China). Neither one is offering realistic long term solutions. Its hard not to be bitter when the big two offerings are basically childish Mussolini against senile Reagan(and for some reason most of the actual Reagan fans are going to vote for Mussolini). Everyone on all parts of the political spectrum are voting against their own interests a lot lately.... way worse than normal anyway.
Instead of bombing 9 countries and occupying hundreds of others, I really think we should be focusing on actually making one particular country our priority. You know, that slogan that Clinton said back in 1991, "Make America Great Again". It would be a nice idea if Trump had any clue how to make it happen. His 650 dollar tax contribution certainly is not going to rebuild this nation and buy that wall he wants so bad.
