the US developed a nuclear weapon (the neutron bomb) years ago that would kill people but not even destroy the buildings they were in. Russia did not have anything equivalent (they said ) & claimed that it "would make nuclear war more likely to take place". which convinced many in this country to protest so much that we (allegedly) put our toys away out of a sense of fair play. you reckon we forgot how to make them? lol...

Actually they all function around Neutrons, but some bombs do minimal property damage. Just bathe all the nearby humans in a wee too many Neutrons.

The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists as of January 2022 has put the Doomsday clock at 100 seconds to midnight. This is the "closest it has ever been to civilization ending nuclear apocalypse".... And this conflict with Ukraine has only served to speed it up further.
Sorry but I'm not interested in WW3 or nuclear war. If that means giving up a part of Ukraine to Russia so be it.

I hear you, I reach that point myself sometimes and you just have to bow out for a bit and do something else. Unfortunately that seems to happen more often then not here in Speaker's Corner threads. The topics are usually very engaging and that's what draws me in but then I quickly find myself mired down in a back and forth with just a few people that are all of the same mindset but different from mine. I try to get them to see things my way and they try to get me to see things theirs but we're all so fiercely convinced of our positions it just goes nowhere and then quickly devolves into little more then name calling and insults.i'm doing good thanks, just needed a break from all the useless arguing i end up getting sucked into
sometimes a break from the daily news feeds and political arguments is just what the doctor ordered,
otherwise it always seems to be 1 crisis or the other, sometimes its nice to just focus on real life and forget all the; end of the world bs fed to use day by day, until its time for the next crisis of course.

Well you may disagree with me but war or no war anyone who rapes an infant or molests an animal is in my opinion less then human and has given up the right to be treated humanely. I really feel the same about all rapists but I kind of give a little more tolerance to stories of rape used in war as a tactic just because the history of that goes so far back and there was, at least in ancient times a reason to it. That reason being the rape victims get pregnant and the offspring are more like the conquerors then the conquered. Or to put it another way it was about replacing the losers with people more like the new rulers. I'm not saying war makes rape okay just less surprising, rape though really is a horrible crime, if you've ever known someone who has been a victim of rape the psychological damage runs very deep and has far reaching unintended consequences for the victim and the victim's family, that the rapist is blissfully ignorant of and likely never even considers.
My first true love became a victim of rape after we had been together for about 4 months. The impact of the rape made her fearful and mistrustful of men and less desiring of intimacy. Eventually it drove us apart. Now had she never been raped, me and her would have likely had a stereotypical High School romance and probably got married some time after High School we probably would have had a couple of kids, a nice home with the white picket fence and two cars in the garage. Me and her would likely have stayed together and celebrated our 50th anniversary sometime in our retirement while our kids grew up to be successful people that we loved and were proud of. None of that ever happened though, me and my girlfriend went our separate ways and lost touch so I have no idea if she ever got over the trauma of her rape to go on and have a normal happy life which she deserved. For me the loss of a relationship I valued sent me down a dark path of drug abuse that ultimately led to my incarceration and the effect of that played a big role in me not finding another good relationship until the woman that became my wife in my 40's. Because we got together so late in life we never had kids, although we did manage to get a nice single family home but with no fence and just a one car garage. About 20 years later my wife's health turned south and she passed during the height of the recent pandemic. I now live alone, have no kids to pass on my genes or to share my life with and since my wife's death caught us unsuspecting or prepared I had to take money ear marked for property taxes (the house is paid off so no escrow account managing that) to help pay for my wife's funeral, which made me unable to pay my property tax on time and so my only home in the world is in jeopardy of being taken from me for a fraction of the value of the home. Being on disability and a fixed income it's a challenge for me to make up the taxes I'm behind on but if I can then I can still save my home. Fortunately there is a government program in my state to help people in my exact situation but so far there has been no answer on if they will help me or not and I should have heard something at least 2 months ago. So I could literally be living out of my car within the next month or so if this program doesn't hurry up and come thru for me.
As for the rapist he was some stranger who my girlfriend never got a good look at due to how the rape went down, so he got away scot free and to the best of my knowledge never suffered any consequences for his actions. For all I know he went on to live a normal life that might have been better then his victim's (my girlfriend) or mine. Now it would be a stretch to blame everything that happened with the woman I did marry, on him but who knows, had we never met and married maybe her life would have turned out differently? I do feel though like I can blame this faceless animal for how my life turned out and more importantly how his victim's life might have turned out (might since I don't really know since we lost touch). It would be safe to say that if she never managed to get over what that rape did to her then she probably didn't have a very happy life. All because some animal couldn't keep his dick in his pants.

Not disagreeing per say. My comment is that rape in its sickest form happens in all countries. I'm sure there's bad Ukrainians, bad Russians, and bad Americans who place themselves above the rest. Even above the babies. Using it for an excuse for killing other babies is surely just as sick. The blame is on the rapist.
