I never heard of using a soda bottle for clones that way. I've been using beer cups, and a soda bottle wouldn't fit over one. But I like that idea, use the bottom of the bottle for soil and slip the top over it. Brilliant! Imma try that next time fo sho.

Hemp will have to give you the definitive answer here, buy I think the use of Rapid Rooters or rock wool cubes like Grodans is what most of us use not soil, but some do go that way. Not soda bottles, they are usually colored, water bottles are what he is referring to.(Like from bottled water)
If you have yours in beer cups find a bottle cut in half that will slip inside the cup, it doesn't necessarily have to surround or cover the outside of the cup.

Well when I use the bottles I'm using either a rapid rooter plug or a peat pellet. Using soil I'm not so sure about because you would need drainage holes I would think. Also getting the rooted clone from the bottle to a pot might be tricky if the shape of the bottle isn't right.

Good point on the bottles, colored bottles are no good for this it needs to be a clear bottle.

Well it all depends on how you are doing things. Some folks like the dig a big hole and then add store bought soil and then add their plant. Others like to put the plant in a 5 gallon bucket and then bury the bucket. Obviously for either of those methods you'd just toss the native soil you dig up, off to the side.

Now if you are going to be planting directly to soil breaking the soil up is probably a good idea. Often times soil is too compacted for good growth and or it might have lots of rocks and other undesirable things in the soil that make it harder for the roots to work thru the soil. Plus you might want to add some things to it such as dolomite lime, to help buffer the soil for a good ph, before putting your plant in it.

Ya, gotcha Gold. I was just thinking something in the 2 liter size. I suppose cutting the bottom off it would fit over a beer cup. I just pictured something else when Hemp mentioned that. I'm going to fool with a couple ways between now and next round and see what works easiest. Thanks guys!

FWIW, Wayyyyy back in the day I used to dig a hole and mix in a little nitrohumus and fertilizer and mix it up then transplant seedlings into that. Of course that was long before I knew anything about lime and all that stuff. And of course I knew nothing about knowing when to harvest either. When it looked like bud, it was chopped and drying.

Of course that was long before I knew anything about lime and all that stuff. And of course I knew nothing about knowing when to harvest either. When it looked like bud, it was chopped and drying.

Way back in the 60's when I didn't know anything either it still grew big and tall in my old lady's back yard. Right out in the open too.

I wouldn't use the fine kind that's more for fast acting results, you want something that will break down over time so use granular.

In that case also it doesn't matter if the bottle is clear or not because the light doesn't have to go thru it. Of course by the time you cut it, make drainage holes and perhaps paint it (actually it's best for the roots if they're not exposed to light), you might as well go out and buy some cheap pots and save yourself some trouble.

Double gulp 7-11 cups with holes work real well they're real deep to get a good root mass going before trans-plant

I followed your advise and ate one brownie when I knew I didn't have to go anyplace or do anything. WOW, one was a bit too much, not really in a bad way, but I was immobile for a couple of hours! Half is perfect.

We just got back from a trip to see Mark Knopfler in concert. We ate 1/2 brownie an hour before the show and it was perfect! Great music and great the high!

Hoosier~ I love the hash!!! Until my buds are done curing that's all I have been smoking and frankly I was thinking of making more with some of the buds... I was wondering how I should store it. Should I keep it in foil?

You can store hash in virtually anything but like weed it needs to be kept away from light, heat and air as much as possible as those three things speed up the break down of THC.

Speaking of hash, smoke it sparringly if you're going to smoke it often. It is essentially concentrated weed and therefore will raise your tolerence level more then just smoking regular weed.

Well, I would think they would have to be pretty big trees such that blocking light to your plants would be a bigger problem. When I was still growing outdoors I usually looked for areas where the surrounding plant life wasn't much bigger then I expected my plants to get and never had a problem with them taking too much water from the soil. I also tried to grow near creeks or streams so there would be an abundent source of moisture for the soil in the area, and so I also didn't have to carry water too them from far away.
