Update: July 20

Update: July 20

My buddy Ray went back to Denver with my new contact Carlos phone number. And he doesn’t have it any more so I’m on a quest to find this guy. So I bump into George Saturday and he’s like where you been? Not wanting to stir anything up I just said I was busy with classes. He said he wanted to show me something really good. I’ve heard this so many times but my stash was getting low so I thought I could just look at it. I wasn’t impressed, it didn’t really “look” that good and not much smell. And he was very expensive compared to the purchase from Carlos a month ago. George must have sensed something because he doubled the weight for the same price and I caved, he said it was really strong and that I’d like it. So I cruise back to the house for a close inspection and still it doesn’t really look good and has a slight “brick” smell to it.

attachment.php

I loaded up the bong and fired it up, big hit but no expansion in the lungs. Then on exhale a very hashy taste and then I coughed my lungs out. Two more hits like that but no effect other than coughing hard after the exhale. I put the pipe up and thought, damn George got me some BS when bam, it hit me. My body felt like it filled with lead and I was stuck to the couch unable (unwilling) to move even an inch. Deep rich euphoria centered in my chest holding me down, like the ultimate relaxation. I stayed in this blissful condition for maybe twenty minutes then I was able to move a bit still feeling very heavy stone. I ate like a horse and took a couple more hits and it put me to sleep like Nyquil, a very deep restful sleep. I woke up the next day feeling refreshed but I could still feel the weed a little bit. Conclusion is this bud is deceptively potent but super stony, it’s not dirty or unpleasant in anyway but it makes me sleep (at any time) if I smoke more than a few hits.

attachment.php

This has a tranquilizer effect on me that is very different from the last batch from Carlos. George said he would be getting some really good seeded bud next week but I’m still going to find Carlos too.

More to come.

Update July 2015

Update July 2015

Lots of new discoveries happening in my neighborhood. First “Ganja farm” cannabis medical has opened right up the street from me. It’s owned and operated by an Italian man Denis and his Colombian wife. I’ve talked to them twice and I learned according to them that anyone here can grow up to 20 plants (any more is considered trafficking) and can process and sell medical products legally. Denis claims this to be true and has a storefront to prove it. This is great news indeed and I’m really excited to see things changing here. However, with all due respect for Denis and his wife I don’t like their “presentation” and I still have a vague idea of what they are trying to sell. Their “storefront” leaves much to be desired even by Colombian standards. It’s small with no counters or products visible and only a few old seed catalog posters on the wall (1 Sensi and two DNA) and really not much else in the room. In the back they have a few plants (seedlings) growing under HID lights in soil. They don’t speak any English but I could talk to them with my Spanish pretty well. I told them about IC mag and my growing experience in Colombia, we talked about seeds and Denis says as I already knew seeds are legal in Colombia up to a kilo. He then produced a box full of seed packs, he had every name brand seed I’d ever heard of. Big bud, critical mass, white widow, NLXHaze, and many more from every seed bank I’ve ever heard of as well as more (Chilean). He even had Colombian SMG and a bag marked “Punto Rojo” filled with seed. He was growing skunk under the lights. I really didn’t have time to talk but he said he veg’s the plants under the lights then flowers outside under the sun. I had to go before I could explain to him that long flowering NLD would become popular again with legalization. He really didn’t grasp the idea I don’t believe.

Fireball Colombian Crippa

Next day I met his Colombian wife (don’t recall her name) and she like her husband is in her I guess early thirties. Denis wasn’t there but I pushed out my best Spanish and engaged her in meaningful conversation best I could. She seemed to understand my quest for the native Colombians and my desire to reproduce (and reintroduce) them here in Colombia. However she seemed to think these strains didn’t exist anymore, and was unaware of the Colombian seeds in Denis’s box of seeds. Again I was stressed for time and couldn’t go into detail but I gave her my card and asked her to please email me. As I was leaving 3 Colombian guys came in and were very interested in me. They have a small finca outside Bogota and are growers. Or should I say want to be cannabis growers but lack the knowledge (skills) to produce “medical” grade cannabis. But I had to leave telling them to please contact me for assistance. I figure if I can’t grow now I can at least teach what I know and help these fellows.

Now the bad news, I certainly don’t want to offend anyone but I’ve got to say this. Denis and his wife as lovely as they are look like your typical stoners. They dress ok but Denis has super long dreads and a very pale completion that’s screams druggy. His wife not so bad but they both are very thin and that’s a tell for lots of coca. Maybe in California they would fit in perfectly but Colombians put everything in appearance and presentation, they are very superficial and judgmental. Anything “narco” here is really seen in bad taste by the people that matter. Combine their general appearance with the makeshift store and I can’t see them getting anywhere with it. For marijuana to be seen correctly and accepted by the majority of Colombians (and the world) cannabis must be presented 100% differently. Cannabis to be accepted must be recreated in the public’s eyes to wash away decades of mis representation. Again I would not want to offend anyone’s lifestyle but stereotypes must be dissolved before we can evolve. I wish to represent the best product with a degree of president above the perceived norm. Delusions of gandgor.

You are sounding kind of snooty Red. When I bought weed there were no counters and jars. My dealer would reach under his couch and slide out a big tray with some ounces on it. Behind the couch ceiling to floor, minus what was sold, were kilo bags of killer weed.

I want good weed. I don't need a Bed, Bath & Beyond experience. If the weed is good people will come.

And... BACK OFF HIPPIES! LOL!

George threw you a curve ball and got you high as a kite.

To tell the truth I thought someone would misunderstand me, I have nothing against anyone's appearance. But this is a "legal" store not in anyway a drug dealer house, which is what it feels like. You might see the drug war where you are but the Colombians have been living it for 40 years. The Colombian people have a whole different view of hippies (understandably). Colombians need to be reintroduced to cannabis and not by hippies (the people that buy the drugs that causes the violence here). I used to have long hair and let my freak flag fly but I learned real quick looking like that got me no where and I kept doing my thing but looking like I never touch the stuff. When you are a sheep among wolves it's best to look like a wolf. Really people think weed makes you stupid lazy and a hippy, I just want to show them this is yet another myth.

Here’s a few ideas I have for the future with or without a finca of my own:

Hand sifting dry keif from selected locally grown NLD

Cob curing and fermenting to “recreate” Candy bar Colombian black

Building a strain from Colombian stock that is acclimated to the climate in Bogota

Hand rubbed hashish from pure Colombian plants

Over the years (40+) I’ve had the old imported Colombians (70s-80s) the modern hybrids grown both in North America and Colombia as well as the non-exported good Colombians (non crippy). The hybrids at first seemed better, pretty fresh buds that taste unreal and hit hard. But they seem to have a “bland” effect and I become tired of them quickly. The really good pure Colombians on the other hand are not bland to me and I now prefer them to anything else. I know there’s great weed all over the world but I’m only interested in bringing back the cultivation and worldwide consumption of fine Colombian NLD strains that never finish flowering. I know I have an obsession but once you have a taste you’ll understand.

It isn't just Colombia, it's the same here, at least in some extent. If you want to reach a particular market.

On my way home just now, one of the legal retail stores I passed was kind of a zoo, I mean there were a lot of customers in there. "Hipsters', of which there are many in this area. That store hires young people to work there who look and sound like that. Another store nearby is staffed mainly by the owners, who are not hipsters at all and couldn't fake it to save their lives, but they're good people and good at what they're doing and as the market starts to broaden out, I think they'll be in good shape. I reckon in a couple generations, as these stores become a familiar part of the scene, it will matter less - and there will be fewer stores and less diversity.

Hey Red, whats your take on Caribbean weed? I'm just curious. I was reading something on Dominica recently, I'd like to visit there sometime, and it said the weed on the island is most likely Colombian in origin. Genetics wise that is. This makes sense to me since drugs have been passing though that area for what, like over 40 years? I was wondering where else would there genetics come from if not Colombia.

You have been to Carlos' house. Go knock on his door early one evening. Tell him that you lost his number but you want to buy some herb. I am sure he would like to see you. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

I know what you mean about appearance in Colombia. The first time I went there I had some really long hair. When I went back, I had short hair with a stylish haircut from an expensive salon and I had some fashionable and stylish clothes instead of tee shirts and cutoffs. It is fun to have long hair and dress down, but it is too damn dangerous down there to hang a sign on yourself saying bust me. When in Rome, do as the Romans.

Even more to reds point. its ok whatever image u wanna portray, but to start a cannabis business n get a chance at a fair shake from leo, and the general public, that has the stereotypes stuck in their head that cannabis is for non contributing members of society, its not the smartest way to get them too look at u with an open mind, n see that cannabis can, n is being used by upstanding people that do positive things in their community. that's what reds really driving too. He wants to show the positive side of responsible people that contribute to their community, n happen to chose cannabis as a reasonable choice for their relaxation time, or medicinal use. Just like people enjoy a nice cup of coffee, tea, tobacco, alcohol, etc...

I think its a very smart and important perspective to have in their new legal cannabis market.

ur really a step ahead of the people that don't understand this perception, n how to deal with it red. Kudos to u bro! U got the passion, now u just gotta start making it happen. U inspire me to do something similar. Cant wait till we both have our own little shops n can come visit with each other! Share, n trade, n experience the best of both countries!

Hey red, did u score any of those beans off that fellow? thought u might have some interest in that punto rojo? Is that Colombian or Mexican, im horrible with my landrace n nld strain knowledge.

Hi Squall, I don't know much about the islands but if you're lucky they might have Colombian crippa. The crippy is nothing to turn a nose up to as some of it is crazy potent and tasty. In fact crippy is what I burn daily here now days. I'm sure that you will find something good there, Dominican women are simply aw sum.

Thank you so much for seeing my point. I personally have been taught all my life NOT to judge others based on appearance. However in Colombia how you "look" is everything, it's a very shallow perspective but it is a reality. The way I get my high end English students is by wearing a suit and tie. My students would never in a million years guess that I smoke more weed than a Hindu. They think I'm some kind of rich American with nothing better to do than teach them basic English. We have a lot of young men & some women for N. America and Europe that come here looking for the cheap coke of just a South American adventure and these folks kind of "look" bad. Many end up in the jails or worse depending on who they encounter here. I hate to say it but these young people are not thought of highly here and as such I separate myself from them. Looking clean cut has kept me alive and out of jail here and I think it's a logical choice.

Punto Rojo (point red) is an old Colombian land-race of unknown origins. The best Punto Rojo has no comparison.

hola red,

yeah man, bring back those old Colombians! ask some lawyer in the know about this 20 plants legally story to see how much of it is true. if it checks out, I'd move into a house (not apartment) with a big enough secured backyard ideal for growing. I'm sure in a nice suburb of Bogota houses like that can be found for a fair price, or am I dreaming?

Basically most lawyers seem to agree about 20 plants allowed there.
Lets hope Colombia moves definatelly towards legality and medical use as it seems.

Yes rooftop and backyard farming is indeed very possible in Bogota and a viable option in my design. Always love your posts bombadil.360. Thanks buddy.

20 plants in indeed legal here to grow by anyone but what you can do with it is not clear and this is the problem here now. Congress is working on it and Santos has approved the bill but it needs to pass one more vote to be put into law. The industry is not waiting and shops are opening selling in Colombia now.

Compare 1

Compare 1

I am happy to report that there are many new and exciting things going on down here. But first here are two different types of crippy from two different sources here in Bogota. Both are grown in Cali Colombia and are obvious hybrids.

The gold one is from George and is probably the more potent of the two. It has a strong musky hash smell and taste. It affects me kind of slow but then hits me like a tranquilizer for 30 40 minutes then will put me right to sleep in most cases. Like most crippy I build a tolerance to it pretty quick but in this case it’s not a bad thing because with a tolerance it doesn’t knock me out. For evening or pre bed smoke this is perfect, not so much during the day.

attachment.php

The greener one is from the new guy Carlos and is also very potent but has a lighter Ivory soap smell and taste. This expands in my lungs on contact and the effect hits right away. No sleepiness to this but it’s not any type of speed weed or super motivational. A very clean rushy kind of high for 30 40 minutes than a clean come down with no hang over. Tolerance is a problem with this one and I can’t smoke it days on end. A day or two break from it brings it back to an acceptable level.

attachment.php

Overall two very fine examples of the current “domestic” cannabis. I think I can do better.

Here is a Columbian Gold I was gifted that a few well respected FARMERS are running and saying great things about. The sample nug I smoked was killer. I have one at 5 weeks inside that I will get pictures of tonight. This one has been outside since a rooted clone back in early June. I wanted a sun rejuvenated clone donor. I took a bunch of cuts about a week ago. The best looking one will be the new mom and the rest for a nice indoor run.

Very nice plants iTarzan, healthy and happy. They love you I can tell. The light Colombians are my favorite for their bright happy mood they make. And they are sweeter more motivating that the reds. I think you're going to be very pleased with your harvest. Keep us updated please.
