Hi Red,

I remember seeing a video of Colombians "bricking" bud. They used a contraption just like a video I have seen of Mexicans doing the same thing. It looked like a truck jack welded or bolted to a metal box that they put the nearly dry bud into. They locked a heavy metal top on the box-top, and jacked from the bottom up to the top, compressing the buds.

Remember, commercial cultivation moved to Colombia when the Mexican/US government started spraying Paraquat on the Mexican fields to kill the buds, and poison consumers. My friend worked at a labeling company, and brought home an empty, perhaps 2 gallon plastic bottle with the label. Completely skull and cross-bone graphics and textual warnings about how poisonous Paraquat is. M****r F*****s! Sorry for the outburst. Anyway. It is very likely the Mexican culture, bricking contraptions, genetics, etc. migrated to Colombian, and blended with the local Colombian Cannabis culture.

Have you encountered any significant populations of people originally from Mexico now living in Colombia? Did their families migrate in the mid '70s?

I have read accounts and seen pictures of S.E Asian Indian culture of drying/curing weed where they spread out bud on cloth on the ground to dry in the sun, and would pile it up and cover it at night, I think using rocks to weight it down. Perhaps before evening rainstorms? It seems some compression and fermentation would be occurring in this drying process also, as well as leaves getting knocked off from the rough handling.

Love your post about the Johnny Blaze. I know a guy doing significant work breeding with Johnny Blaze. He did find a Green Haze x Meao Thai cross that I believe he thinks has similar qualities. I'll be directing him here to see your post.

The Purple Corinto is a wonderful line. I have been growing it and finally crossed it with an old Afghan. This sped up the maturity. I did not get the PC colors but got extremly excelent meds. Enjoy looking for the elusive old line columbiand. They are well worth the wait...Peace

After getting to know this Corinto, I can say I prefer it to the Cali Crippa and it seems the more I smoke it the more I like it. Here's a few more pictures.

Corinto VS Crippa

Corinto VS Crippa

Here's a couple more pictures. The Corinto, although not the most potent Colombian I've had but it is now my new favorite. I've become bored with the Crippa even though it looks much better and is stronger.

when ya coming back, red ryder?

Well nothing much to report down here. Just endless set backs on getting the finca going. I'm still working on the purple Corinto but expecting George to be finding something new any day. I've been enjoying the PC oil but it doesn't motivate me to write, in fact it really makes me lazy after a few good doses.
We are trying to get out to the country for Easter week but not sure about it yet. I want to get back to finca#1 but the wife is trying to talk me out of it saying their still renovating and the place is a mess. Will update.

New flavor

New flavor

Well I've put the Purple Corinto away for later testing as I've acquired a new interesting no name sample. Could very well be some type of Crippa but the taste is one I've yet to encounter. Maybe this is a mix of really good Colombian with a Crippa. This tastes and smells like really good pure Colombian but is sweet. Sweeter than any Colombian (pure) I've seen before. The effect is STRONG with no hangover and a reasonably long duration. It's mostly seedless and not compressed at all. Here's some pictures.

Carry on

Carry on

Hola! Well I’ve acquired a few new samples and have been testing them. First is another Corinto from George, not quite as potent as the previous PC (purple Corinto) but from the same region. It has a deep rich earthy taste and a very pleasant effect, lighter than the PC but not de motivating.

attachment.php

With about the same duration and tolerance. Wispy, crusty fermented flowers slightly seeded and pressed, traditional Colombian.

attachment.php

The next sample is from a new source and is exceptional. This is from a younger guy I work with at a local university, he’s pretty cool and hooked me up with this “Gold”. I told him about my quest for exceptional pure Colombian strains as well as a few personal stories from the 70s.

attachment.php

This sample is from the Colombian department of Tolima and is said to be of pure genetics. The sample was small semi pressed buds covered in trichs and terpenes. A Golden green color with an unmistakable incense aroma of the finest blond hashish.

attachment.php

The taste is incredible and the smoke expands upon contact with the lungs making it difficult to hold on to a hit. The onset is pretty quick but builds to a stimulating peak that is exquisite on the highest level. Uplifting and motivating (in a very positive light) the duration is slightly longer than normal but clean in the finish. Very potent for a light Colombian and as far as I can tell it is authentically pure.

attachment.php

I’m not sure about the tolerance because I just got it and I’ve been testing other samples but so far it hits hard every time. More to come from Colombia.

Wake and bake Gold

Wake and bake Gold

Yes thank you KITCHA, the this Gold is a tasty surprise from a new friend.

I like to get up early (5AM) everyday especially on the weekends. Wife and kids sleep late and that gives me some free time when I’m nice and fresh. This is also the best time to test samples since I wake and bake anyway. Around 5 Bogota is just starting to come alive but not quite, I’m right on a very busy street and the only balcony (3rd floor) I have faces the street. It’s very refreshing to hear a little silence (from the constant traffic) to really “examine” a new samples effect.

attachment.php

So looking at this new “Gold” sample that my newish friend obtained, I’m having some suspicion of how pure it is. For one thing it’s not pressed or fermented, it does have some seeds but all immature. However it does have that high quality Colombian terpene profile that is unmistakable and the effect although potent isn’t “heavy” in anyway like most Colombians. Maybe it was cut early (white seeds) but it seems to be better cured too.

attachment.php

Whatever it is its good and a nice diversion from all the Corinto I’ve had of late. This morning after just a few hits I feel good, motivated and somewhat creative but also reminiscing about past glories. Strong munchies (I don’t care for that) and after an hour and a half I’m ready for more or equally ready to press on without. The Corinto seems to linger longer than this but not in a dirty way. The Gold just seems to STOP and it’s like you weren’t ever high, I am building a slight tolerance but minimal.

attachment.php

I don’t watch TV here so I download old TV shows like MASH and King of the Hill and one show I’ve been watching is Green Acres. Every time that show starts the theme song makes me want to move out of the city. Here’s another high altitude finca.

Last night

Last night

For the better part of 35 years I was a daily recreational drinker, then a few years ago I stopped. Not because it was a problem, I just got bored with drinking. However I have nothing against drinking and still enjoy a beer on occasion. Well I get a call Friday evening from a guy I knew from a class I taught last year. He says he is having a job interview (in English) in a week and needed me to help him practice for it. I need the money and for a couple hours it’s easy money. So yesterday I head over to this guy’s apartment for the practice class. He’s not that far from my house but it’s a bitch getting there with traffic so I leave about an hour early. His apartment is in a fairly nice part of town but it’s all university students and gets a little crazy on the weekends. I get there and he answers the door and lets me in and I meet his girlfriend. This young lady is 22 and from the Caribbean coast of Colombia and she too speaks English. So my student goes in the kitchen to make us a tinto and I’m left talking with his charming girlfriend. She is very excited to meet me and is eager to practice her English skills with a native speaker. I can’t help but notice her skin tight black yoga pants and low cut blouse covering her silky cinnamon colored skin. Anyway the guy comes back with the coffee and we do the interview and he pays me. It’s still early and he offers me a cold beer and for some reason I accepted. One, two, three ice cold pokers go down, man it was good, I missed the brew. We were talking and of course I get increasingly more bold and cocky with every bottle but my host seem to really enjoy my crazy stories and jokes. Now it’s about five PM and I should be heading back to the house and my wife calls me and tells me just that. I start saying my good byes, take a quick leak and start to open there door to leave when two other couples are at the door. They come in the apartment and interdictions begin along with more beers. I’m on like number 6 beer when they all want to take me to dinner and more drinking. The three woman are all over me talking about how gringos dance (I only dance when I’m drinking) and of course I’m talking all kinds of shit at this point. Its 8 PM it’s dark and I don’t care as we go to a little bar near their apartment. Their buying me beers and shots and tapas (snacks) and I’m doing everything stupid. I dance with the girls and act like I’ve been friends with the guys all my life. Now I want to get high, nobody had said anything about getting high all night. I knew somebody had some weed around there, so I asked. I started talking to this other young guy at the bar about weed and he had some. We had to go out burn one. He didn’t have a name for his bud but it was pretty high quality, with a sharp spicy smell and taste. I forgot how much I loved getting almost drunk before smoking. I went back in that bar super high but stopped drinking. After about an hour I needed to go, it was like 11 PM and I had 6 miscalls from the wife. So I said my goodbyes and kissed and hugged the girls and I walked out the door. The weed dude was out there burning another one and offered me a hit for the road. I asked him for a couple tasty buds to take with me and he poured some into my hand. I just put it unwrapped into my pocket and went home. Now it’s the next morning and I remember why I quit drinking, the hangover. But as I put my pants on to go to the bathroom I felt something in my pocket. This, hangover remover. I wish I had got that guy’s name and phone number as this is much better than I thought it was last night. Wife is super pissed.

Haha, yeah man, I know that feeling, "Why the F*** did I do that?" For me though, the price too high to pay was usually more the marital hangover than the physical hangover. The pleasure of the night was never worth the misery of the next week. Hard lesson to learn but I eventually did. Thanks for all the sharing of La Vida Columbino (? correct phrasing, I don't know Spanish, so I used Google translate)

Yes dealing with the wife is always a challenge but she gets over it. I wasn’t out too late and I came home with the money they paid me. I could have got into a lot more trouble if I wanted too. I had a nice breakfast, a tamal fresh from a little factory close to my house. These tamals are a meal in one with rice chicken beef, pork, garbanzos and even an egg inside. Cost 3,000 COP or about $1.20 US.

attachment.php

Here’s another shot of the last Corinto, I had some after breakfast and felt back at 100%

attachment.php

Another of the new “Gold”, I love the taste of this, it’s much sweeter than the Corinto.

attachment.php

And more of the last Corinto not to be confused with Purple Corinto that’s came from the same source.
