VerdantGreen's quarters - 250HPS organic mod.scrog

K

KermitTheHermit

Really nice, VerdantGreen; great example of what can be done with a 250W HPS and a small cabinet.

I have a few week-old seedlings under my 250 right now; if I get these kind of results it will be a happy time here!

growMEDS - i gave it a good water yesterday but wont see it again till tomorrow morning so fingers crossed ;)

NOF - sounds like you learned a lot from your first scrog attempt :D
i tend to top stretchy ones once and then veg till the tops would be just above the screen. then i repot, flip them and train under the screen for 1-2 weeks. keep it all under the screen for this time. when the screen is full let them go up and hope they 'top out' fairly quickly. its always a little hit and miss when you are trying strains for the first time. i get some gaps between nodes with the stretch which i am going to work on with adjusting N levels and trying the cmh bulb. stretch up to a point is your friend with scrog :)

Hazy - that could be a good call with the nutes. i put this in my fairly rich mix and its grown well but i havent fed it at all and its still not yellowing yet. 'bout 6 weeks now and a couple left i think.

ShamanStyle - hi, i prefer questions to be asked on the thread if possible. i saw the thread you started and ill come over tomorrow and give you some thoughts :) i'll make more sense then - it's late here ;)

cracker420 - thanks for stopping by!

oldbootz - conchonile? maybe scale insect? :D

KermitTheHermit - yep you can grow some great buds under a 250 - good luck!

all four JTR seeds germinated so we have something new for next round.:woohoo:

killn it VGreen!! Im always checking on you sinse youre dish scrog! (that was you right?)

I wonder how youd do if you went all the way Vert. then do a modular scrog on each plant verticaly. Youd prolly increase what youre doing now somthing crazy! Just saying.

Keep it up, cant wait to see how that cheeze works out...

Not sure what to say about that leaf curl... :chin: I have it too sometimes; doesn't seem to be a precursor to something more serious. :noway: It might be magnesium related... :drum: See if adding a little Epsom salt helps.

Anyway, looking good as always, V.

one Q- hi and thanks. i must say i've considered vertical scrog but i have suspicions about how efficiently a plant can use horizontal light. havent been there in a while but i did ask people about their yields a couple of times in the vertical forum but no-one was forthcoming with an answer ;). atm it seems to me that loads of people are talking about yields you can theoretically get in vertical but not so much about the yields thay actually get.
if you have some good links to vertical grows then please post them :)

pontiac! - yeah the PP looks a little better (i think) after a good soaking, but also looks like it will finish in under 8 weeks which is pretty awesome for a speedy sativa. (that looks like an indica)

got somepics of the cheese to post later :D some lime green goodness...

break it down for me please sir. and look at MrJones vert build and grow. He didnt yeild well, but for good reasons. You can see the potential of a vert250

one Q - if you look at a bud (grown conventionally) from above - you can see that the fan leaves spread out around the bud to form, at their different levels, a perfect circle so as all the light is caught by one leaf or another. i dont believe that leaves can they can use light this efficiently when it is cast from the side. very hard to sidestep millions of years of evolution ;) having said that i think it's important that innovative people try to find new, better ways of growing and the most important thing is that you really believe in the method you settle upon and that it works for you in the space/situation you have.
Ill go check out that vert grow soon!

Oldbootz- Sorry bro,
Conchoniles is what I was trying to say about scale insect.
I am from South America...and my english is far away from what I call: good!

Scale insect in my contry is Conchonilas. So I write conchoniles!
kkkkkkkkkkk

It doesn´t matter now.

Verdant- My first scrog was a pain in the ass.

But as you said, I learned a lot. I have been studing scrog techniques for
years, always convinced that this is the best techinique for optimize your
yield on indoor gardens. So I decided to do my first attemp.

My doubts at that time was: when put them to flower? Should I let the branches
goes through the screen and them flip? Should I put to flower as they fill the screen interely or should I let the branches get bigger and bigger through then screen and them
put into flower.

These were basically my 3 kind of doubts.

What I realize is that in my case, the branches which have streched far away from
the screen, they had those gaps between the buds as you said in some of your plants.

I did kind an experience: somes clones I let grow through the screen, and some I trained
above the screen. The ones which were trained above the screen, were more solid
with no gaps.

What I am trying to say, as my english is kind bad, is that at this moment, I really don´t know if we let the branches grow through the screen maybe 10-20 cm and them put them to flower, if this is going to represent more yield on the harvest.

Anyway, I´m just loving this thread bro.
I´m almost done my growroom´s reform.

Now I got all set up.
I just need to bilt my electricity painel and them turn it on.

Hope that at this weekend I can start my new growroom.
I have clones of NYCD , Duch Dragon, Double Dutch, White Berry, Jacky White,
Ice Cream and Salva (I could not find which breeder makes this shit).

The deal is that I have space for 6 modular scrogs.
And I need to select the best NYCD pheno as I have 5 mothers for my seedlings.

I am wondering to use 4 modular scrogs, and at the space of those others two,
make some SOG with the 5 clones of NYCD and all those ones wich are not going to
be chosen for the SCROG.

Do you guys have a tip for which of this strains should I make the modular scrog?
I only have grown the NYCD. And this genetic is awesome.

All the others clones, a friend gave to me.

I saw all them on his cab this week , and I thought that ductch dragon, jacky white and double dutch are going to be the ones. Dutch dragon is so resin...I never seen anything like that, except for pictures.

Aynway...

Which one of all these clones, except for the Diesels are the best in your opinion guys?

V.G this chese...
Man!

I am going to grow this shit in the future.
Is she from Big Budha?

All the best for everyone here.

Oldbootz - yay i was right about conchoniles :woohoo:lucky guess !

NOF - thanks - i dont let any branches above the screen till it is full and i flip the lights somewhere between the plant reaching the screen and the screen half full (depending on how much i think it will stretch. ideally they should have almost stopped stretching as they start to go above the screen.

the cheese is the original UK Exodus cut (clone only) which i was very lucky to be gifted. cant wait to try it. :joint:

Hummm...

That seems to be ok.
This is the essence of the scrog, huh?

Fill the screen and them put them to flower.

Another tip that I'm kind curious.
We know that MH bubls, makes the internodes distances shorter (high color temperatures of radiation do that).

I was wondering to change MH to HPS when the plants stop their strech.
Dunno...but I'm kind confused, if this act, can slow bud formation.

What do you think about that?

Alas, the great conchonile question is solved. This all makes perfect sense now! Like the others here, I did a google search and oddly...turned up nothing when I saw that word!

hi NOF

Hummm...
Fill the screen and them put them to flower.
no, it really depends on the strain and how much it stretches.

if it is an indica that will not stretch very much then i would fill the screen up to 75% and flower (switch to 12/12)

if it is a sativa that i expect to stretch a lot i would flower them when the plant is as tall as the screen and then use the stretch to fill the screen.

so those are the extremes and most plants are somewhere inbetween :)

also remember if you repot at the same time as flowering (i do) this gives you even more stretch.

yes this is a good idea ( i have a MH bulb but now my plants are all at different stages of flowering ) the only thing to remember is that stretch can be good because it helps fill the screen.

i am waiting for a CMH bulb to arrive that is like halfway inbetween MH and HPS - i think this may be a good choice in my perpetual system where plants are going in for flower and being harvested at different times

cheers

Otherwhitemeat: Sorry about that mate.
Try to translate some word in english to portuguese, like pussy!lhehe

Verdant: I know what you mean.
In my case, I put the Diesels to flower when then fill up to 80-90% of
the screen.

My modular pots were so big.
I bilt some Soma´s Bed with 100 liters each.
So I guess that it may have something like 80 liters of soil mix at each bed.

And I also tranplanted one clone a bed.

My mistake: I did not make drainage holes at the bottom, as Soma in his
book dind´t make also. He said that he never had problems with overwater,
but in my case, I had serious troubles with fusarium on the roots.

I lost 3 huge plants that have been dieing slowly.
It always become the same effect: first a branch starts to shrivel and them the others one. In 1-2 weeks the hole plant was dead.

Check this photo and look the fungus attack:

med_gallery_3356_2509_45845.jpg

med_gallery_3356_2509_13058.jpg

med_gallery_3356_2509_17980.jpg

med_gallery_3356_2509_23645.jpg

med_gallery_3356_2509_35549.jpg

So as you can see, the fungus destroyed my crop.

And this is how my modular scrog was:

med_gallery_3356_2509_39388.jpg

med_gallery_3356_2509_243677.jpg

I have six beds. See how they fill all my cabinet:

med_gallery_3356_2509_30853.jpg

These picture were taken just before they gone to flower.

See how my Diesel #2 looked like as the strech finish:

med_gallery_3356_2509_190666.jpg

I guess that pictures tells the history by itself!
Unfortunately what was becoming my best grow run, became my
worst attempt.

My mistakes:

I did not make any drainage hole at the bottom of the beds.
Temperature were so high when I put 2x400W HPS that my plants
were so stressed and becoming weak.

No I reform my cabinet, I put the Air Conditioner.
Let´s see how it goes.

I guess this is it.

All the best,

NOF

nice setup NOF!

doing a no runoff grow takes a lot of skill thats for sure.

did you try using a organic fungicide or even H2O2?

i do no run off for most of my plants lives, until they're deep into flowering then i give them waterings to about 20% run off, but my containers still have drainage holes.

good luck on your next !

hey NOF - you've got to run those beds again! - the scrogs look good and i would say the bottom pic was about right stretch-wise.

as bootz says, no runoff is inviting problems unless you really know your setup and how much water the plants need. i have soma's book and would love to try his beds myself.

i wonder if you could put a siphon tube down one of the vents into the bottom so as you can check that there isnt water sitting in the bottom?
environment also is very important - worth spending the money if you have it to make it better.
