Vermont and Maine allow felons to vote even though incarcerated. some places it depends on what you were convicted of. crimes of violence and/or "moral turpitude" shut the window...
Well I wasn't just saying Cohn was another example of someone who played the legal system like a violin but that he also mentored Trump in how to do it. Lie and never back down but instead double and triple down, that came from Cohn, also to keep filing motions to drag the process out as long as possible and hopefully wear your accusers down even if you know the motions will ultimately fail. Now Trump may have taken all that to new levels because by the time I even became aware of Roy Cohn he was no longer among the living.
Now it's fair to say that there are many other wealthy elites that have manipulated the system to their advantage but they did one thing that Trump is unable to do and that is they hire truly telented lawyers. Trump doesn't seem to be able to do that. Partially because he's cheap and doesn't have the wealth he should and I'm sure his history of not always paying and/or dragging lawyer's reputations thru the mud doesn't help him any. That's not to say he only hires hacks, some of his lawyers are, like Hobba, who doesn't even deserve to be a practicing lawyer. He also manages to get dome fairly decent lawyers but he's usually hiring them for roles that the don't excell in. Like his main defense lawyer Tom Blanche he actually has/had a fairly decent reputation as a prosecutor but when it comes to being a defense lawyer he's out of his depth. I would also speculate that Trump's ego gets in the way by thinking he knows better then his lawyers and pushes them into filing motions or making defenses that they should no better then to do or make. Why they do that is beyond me, I can only guess that they do it to not give Trump an excuse to not pay them.
As for SCOTUS and current Republicans I agree that they are corrupting the legal system and the public's faith in it. If you had asked me before the recent Roe v Wade ruling I probably would have said that the SCOTUS was the only branch of the Government that still held the people's faith and Trust but now I would say their reputation and approval rating is no better then that of congress or at best is just marginally better. I hate to speak in broad all inclusive terms of the SCOTUS though because there are still 3 justices who I respect and can depend on to make fair and rational rulings. Unfortunately since they are countered by 6 who behave in corrupt irrational ways, thy have no power. Hopefully when Biden wins and the Democrats take over the House and hold onto the Senate, they'll do something to fix the problems of the current SCOTUS. Either by making it easier to hold Justices accountable for their corruption or by increasing the size of the SCOTUS to restore a more fair balance. I would prefer to see bad justices held accountable and be able to be removed. If we just make it bigger then the next time Republicans gain control they'll just do the same thing to make it imbalanced in their favor.
As I understand it the only way a candidate could be restricted from a ballot was thru the way described in the 14th Amendment section III, of the constitution and as we all know the current Supreme court effectively broke that. There is nothing on the books to stop a convicted felon from running for office. The only thing that has really kept that from happening is that the American people would not vote for such a candidate, at least not in enough numbers for that candidate to win. There is sound argument as to why a convicted felon should not hold the office of the President. Ironically it came from Trump back in 2016 when he made an argument as to why it would be bad to elect Hillary since she was under investigation at the time that might lead to a felony conviction. Unfortunately I can't find the video by itself and I won't subject people to watch the video it was contained in just to see it. Suffice it to say Trump made a reasoned arguement that a Preident who was a felon would have a near impossible job of fullfilling their role as President. Of course if that video was played now, since it would work against Trump, Trump and likely his supporters would claim it to be an AI Deep Fake or something along those lines.
Back to your question though it doesn't matter State Court or Federal there is nothing but the voters to keep a felon from becoming a President and now that Trump is a Felon you can count on Republicans to make sure no new laws are introduced between now and the election to change that.
Now granted this was spoken by Trump and Trump surrogates but it has been said in the past year that there is nothing in the constitution or on the books to keep a person elected as president that is locked up for a felony, from serving as President and most likely he would be released from prison to serve as President.
Ths however is because up to this point the idea of anyone like that successfully winning an election was thought to be so unlikely that nobody ever felt a need to protect against that from hasppening. Now however that the unthinkable has happened and we have a candidate that is a felon and has a shot at becoming President (although I have faith the majority of the voting public will prevent that), it's probably a good time that something does get done to prevent that.
The problem is it really needs to be done via a constitutional amendment and in a world where our government has a hard time getting a simply majority to pass new laws it seem improbable that we can get 2/3rds of both houses of congress or 2/3rds of all states to request such an amendment and then 3/4ths of all states to ratify it to add it to the constitution.
This is complete BS, the crimes Cohen admitted to are not worse, they're virtually the same he admitted to:
1) Tax fraud - Which Trump was found guilty of also in civil court.
2) Making false statements to a financial institution - Which Trump was also found guilty of in civil court and fined almost half a billion dollars.
3) Unlawful corporate contributions - Which is on par with what Trump did in this Hush Money case the only problem here is nobody has really investigated Trumps corporate contributions in the past....yet
4) Excessive campaign contributions - Which is virtually the same as the underlying charge that made Trumps charges in this case go from a misdemeanor to a felony. Also since he did that in Oct. of 2016 it was done to the Trump Campaign since we all know Cohen didn't give any money to the Clinton campaign. In fact since the hush money originally came from Cohen taking an equity loan on his home to pay of Stormy Daniels and was repaid by the Trump campaign, that was considered an in kind contribution and likely the basis for the single charge in which Cohen admitted to for this offense.
So at best his taking a plea deal is like one cartel leader taking a deal to flip on another cartel leader.
Vote for whoever you want in November but at least have the integrity to be honest about it rather then spreading gossip you got from your orange Jesus. BTW everyone here knows you've been on the Trump team for months now so you're fooling nobody when you claim you were out of it but are now suddenly going to vote for Trump because of his conviction.
I'm not arguing that he made such a passionate case but I just wanted to point out the irony that the times he described all those moral and social injustices happpening is essentially the time that Trump and his supporters look to when talking about how America was once great and that they would like to make great again, presumably by returning the country to the times of those moral and solcial insustices.
You probably ar correct given that Trumo has 2-6 Sumpreme court justices in his pocket. Now since I can't really say for sure that the Justices Trump nominated would tarish their reputations by overturning a lawful conviction arrived at by 12 Jurers which Trump and his lawyers had an equal role in picking. I would say, let the 2 most questionable justices recuse themselves (Alito and Thomas) which would leave the Supreme Court still holding a conservative majority and I bet this conviction doesn't get overturned.
There was no sham to this case, the worst evidence against Trump came from documents he signed, testimony from people he is still friendly with (Pecker and Hicks) as well as video and audio recordings of Trump. They likely could have chosen to not even put Cohen on the stand and still convinced the just of reasonable guilt since everything he testified to was corroborated by the above mentioned documents, testimony from Trump friends and audo and video of Trump.
Biden will likely still debate Trump if Trump has the guts to do so but since they'll be turning of his mic when it's Biden answering and Trump will have no control of the location or content, I doubt Trump will go thru with the debate. i'm confident Biden won't give up the chance to ask Trump if his probation officer was the one who allowed him to attend. Yeah sure Bden will likely call him a convicted felon because he is and you know damn good and well that if the roles were reversed Trump would do the same.
Okay I did not know that about Vermont and Maine. I stand corrected. Isn't it ironic though that two states that are usually viewed as being solidly blue states are among the ones that would allow Trump to vote even as a convicted felon not yet finished serving his time. I mean if you believe Trump all states and cities seen as being overwhelmingly democratic all have it in for Trump and couldn't possibly treat him fairly.
BTW, I wanted to point out how ludicrous Trumpss claim of NY city being biased against him is. It's the same city in which he famouslt claimed he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and it wouldn't hurt his chances of winning. More importantly it's the same city that when he turned himself in to be arraigned he claimed that everyone there was crying in sympathy for him and how ashamed they felt about their city doing this to him. Remember that? If not I'm sure it's on video somewhere.

You watch too much CNN. The jury pool was selected from a place where 9 out of 10 people vote Democrat. The defense attorney can try to dismiss certain people but only under the judges approval. We all know this judge is far from impartial. It was obvious during the trial. And if you think Cohen is a reputable witness you need to smoke another bowl.
