Trump thread part 2 (Or anything else we want to talk about that's ridiculous in politics today)

Can Trump lawfully vote for himself on election day?
Technically he shouldn't be able to, of the states that allow convicted felons to vote, that right isn't restored until after they've completed their sentence. So based on that Trump shouldn't be able to vote until at least 18 months after he was sentenced if not longer. Then again there is still the question of whether or not the conviction gets overturned in appeal?

The next 24-48 hours should be quite interesting as far as the reaction of Trump and his MAGA supporters and should provide strong clues to how things will unfold in the near future.

I will give Trump his due, he took the verdict manfully
enraged actually, that is his game and he has to play it that way to the end
tonight's social media posts ought to be interesting
thinking it's time for a DT stroke watch, that tea kettle on top of his neck is ready to blow

Of course you're correct, I only question Billionaires justice because he doesn't deserve to be called a billionaire in my opinion. That being said you don't have to be a billionaire to buy justice, perhaps a more accurate term would be Elites Justice? Anyway, we are now in uncharted historical waters now that Trump was found guilty on all counts and has becom the first President in history to become a convicted felon. Now it just remains to see what the publireaction is and to discover if Trumps efforts at sewing doubt in the legitimacy of the justice system has accomplished it's goal or not. We also need to see what happenens with the inevitable appeal which will likely end up all the way in the Supreme Court where the most doubt/trust in the legal system currently exists.

Frankly I don't like this idea that just because a particular President appoints someone as a federal judge or justice means they are beholden to them. That undermines the integrity most judges and justices work hard all their lives to establish and usually is the basis or should be, for why they were appointed in the first place. Although unfortunately some judges and justices have done a lot of damage to the idea of judicial integrity in recent years. it is interesting to note however that there have been some matters Trump has brought to the Supreme court where some or all of his appointed justices did not rule in his favor, so there may yet be some hope. Despite Alito and Thomas.
As you say, "Elites Justice" definitely exists, but try to find someone who has abused the legal system to the degree Chump has. SCOTUS is in pretty deep shit right now. If they try to let Chump off the hook their place in history will be permanent and the reaction will be overwhelming.

The beholden judges seems to be a Chump thing with judges being chosen conditionally. Not just the SCOTUS but 234 federal judges were appointed by Chump. This is a huge stain on all the legit judges across the country who could choose personal benefits over justice but the play it straight and do the job they signed up for.

Well we need to keep in mind that Trump had training from Roy Cohn who was notorious for being considered and expert at evading justice. Cohn was Trumps role model and mentor when Trump first got involved in business as a young adult. Not all elites or billionaires have that kind of training. If I had to guess Cohn taught Trump the trick to filing all sorts of motions and appeals to basically drag things out and wear the other side down to where they either give up or give him a sweet deal to just settle the case without being ruled as guilty or innocent. I remember reading about when Trump and his father got sued for descriminating against blacks and hispanics with apartments they owned. Trump drag the case out so long that finallystates attorney or whoever was trying to hold him accountable gave him some deal to just settle the case and get it off the books. Then after that Trump would just say he was never found guilty because technically he wasn''t.

As for SCOTUS, as far as I'm concerned their place in history is already permanent and hopefully something will be done soon to hold them accountable, or at least Alito and Thomas. Since they're the worst of the lot. with the 234 Federal judges we should be fair by acknowledging that quite a few of his hand picked judges did the right thing and ruled against him. So not all of them allowed themselves to be so easily corrupted. Still there are a lot out there that have yet to be called upon that are wild cards still. Hopefully most of them will die of natural causes without ruining the reputation of all Federal Judges. I'm not sure how true it is but I heard a report that Biden has been doing his best to restore some order by appointing even more judges then Trump did, at the time of that report (several months ago) I believe he had appointed somewhere in excess of 300 judges. We definitely need some major reform there though. There needs to be an easier way to replace judges that legislate from the bench.

Well as far as I understand it all felons lose the right to vote and the right to legally own firearms. Depending on the state they were found guilty in the right to vote can be restored after they complete their sentence. Other states it's more permanent and can only be undone thru a pardon by the State's government and/or thru a legal process known as expungement. Since it's likely Trump won't even begin "serving his time" until after the election I don't see how there is any way Trump could legal vote for himself not that it would really matter since he's going to need way more then his one vote to make any difference in his outcome.

Cohn is one, but there really aren't many who have abused the legal system as Chump has. It's the extreme version special justice for the rich.

SCOTUS and their blatant corruption, It goes along with current republicans delegitimizing our entire legal system. These people are turning the country into a banana republic with rampant corruption. Unfortunately if you look at the demographics of the Republican Party, their stronghold is the poorest and least educated states where critical thinking skills are limited.

so can a convicted felon be on state's presidential ballots?
I would think this might be coming to a SCOTUS near you, maybe real soon
since this was a state court it might not meet the sufficient grounds that a federal felony would
but god knows how this could roll

Eugene V Debs was on the ballot whilst in prison (for speaking against conscription for ww1).

Over 1/3 of African American men in America are felons. It’s not the label it used to be. And, for people claiming the justice system can be used as a weapon to keep people down, his story can be attractive.

It’s un-American to decide a person is bad an then go through every paper they ever signed looking for technical errors.

Who is the victim in this case?

Michael cohen admitted to worse crimes on the stand than trump was charged with. It’s like giving a cartel leader a deal to flip on a user with half a gram of product.

I was out of this until now, but as a felon because of a junk case, I’m voting trump.

thank you for that bit of knowledge, I'll have to look a little further, on the ballot but also can actually take the job if voted in?
He is famous for many things, but this is particularly moving. He spoke these words at his sentencing after having been convicted for sedition for speaking against the war.

Your honor, I have stated in this court that I am opposed to the form of our present government; that I am opposed to the social system in which we live; that I believe in the change of both but by perfectly peaceable and orderly means. ...

I am thinking this morning of the men in the mills and factories; I am thinking of the women who, for a paltry wage, are compelled to work out their lives; of the little children who, in this system, are robbed of their childhood, and in their early, tender years, are seized in the remorseless grasp of Mammon, and forced into the industrial dungeons, there to feed the machines while they themselves are being starved body and soul. ...

Your honor, I ask no mercy, I plead for no immunity. I realize that finally the right must prevail. I never more fully comprehended than now the great struggle between the powers of greed on the one hand and upon the other the rising hosts of freedom. I can see the dawn of a better day of humanity. The people are awakening. In due course of time they will come into their own.

When the mariner, sailing over tropic seas, looks for relief from his weary watch, he turns his eyes toward the Southern Cross, burning luridly above the tempest-vexed ocean. As the midnight approaches the Southern Cross begins to bend, and the whirling worlds change their places, and with starry finger-points the Almighty marks the passage of Time upon the dial of the universe; and though no bell may beat the glad tidings, the look-out knows that the midnight is passing – that relief and rest are close at hand.

Let the people take heart and hope everywhere, for the cross is bending, midnight is passing, and joy cometh with the morning.

Later
Your Honor, years ago I recognized my kinship with all living beings, and I made up my mind that I was not one bit better than the meanest on earth. I said then, and I say now, that while there is a lower class, I am in it, and while there is a criminal element, I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free.

I can think of no-one more dissimilar to Donald Trump than Eugene Victor Debs.

On the ballot is all I know.

This will totally be overturned. Even most Democrats know this trial along with the rest are a sham to smear Trump. Biden and his cronies all know this but figure it will hurt him politically so that's why the Dems have been hell bent on covicting him of something. Now they can call him a convicted felon until it gets overturned. Maybe Biden will use that as an excuse not to debate him. Even if he still debates he will just call him a convicted felon when his head goes blank and he's in another dementia induced state.
