Trump thread part 2 (Or anything else we want to talk about that's ridiculous in politics today)

They really need to rename the Republican Party the Limbo Party. That is the party of the ever lowering bar. Chump and Santos have achieved historic political lows while comrades like Boebert, Gaetz, and MTG continue to promise new lows ahead.

What is getting to me about all of this is even after the trial with Trump's disposition that has him literally admitting he sexually assaulted women very few Republicans became willing to condemn him. In fact idiots like Tommy Tuberville have gone on record to say that the results of the trial "make him want to vote for Trump twice." Only in the Republican party can you find representatives that view a guilty verdict of sexual assault as a endorsement to vote for a Presidential candidate. Which is rather amazing when you consider how many Republicans quickly condemed Al Fraken just on the accusations of far less serious forms of sexual misconduct that were never even tried in court. This in my opinion might shed some light on why so many Republicans, in their efforts to ban abortion, refuse to allow an exception for rape. Could it be that they don't want such an exception for fear that it might prevent some of their progeny from ever being born? Seems like the Republican party of today should be known as the party of Rapists.

To confuse things even more there is a recent case of a state level republican official, Rep. Bryan Slaton who got a 19 year old intern drunk and had non-consensual unprotected sex with her and then provided her with the chemical abortion drug known as "Plan B" the next day. After he was caught he agreed to resign and yet his fellow Texas Republicans still want to expel Slaton, a 45 year old, married and former Southern Baptist youth and family minister from the State House of Representatives. Which would be a stain on their party that hasn't happened in over 100 years. This despite Slaton having taken many popular Republican legislative positions such as calling for a blanket ban on drag shows to save children from "perverted adults" and proposing tax cuts for only straight, married, non-divorced couples with children. He has also tried to make abortion a capital offense. His fellow Republicans have called his behavior "appalling" and want to label him as a "Predator".

Given the differing reactions towards Slaton vs Trump, it makes you wonder if it is the sexual misconduct that made them turn on him or the fact that he pre-emptively aborted any potential pregnancy with the Plan B drug?

On a network-wide editorial call, Mr. Licht congratulated the moderator, Kaitlan Collins, on “a masterful performance” before acknowledging the public backlash. “We all know covering Donald Trump is messy and tricky, and it will continue to be messy and tricky, but it’s our job,” Mr. Licht said, according to a recording of the call obtained by The New York Times.

“I absolutely, unequivocally believe America was served very well by what we did last night,” Mr. Licht added. “People woke up, and they know what the stakes are in this election in a way that they didn’t the day before. And if someone was going to ask tough questions and have that messy conversation, it damn well should be on CNN.”

We all know the source of any info posted will be drastically different depending on political ideologies. The truth doesn't matter to many.

The facts are, Trump sexually abused someone and was found guilty(I'm sure there are more women he raped/abused). You can't spin that.

CNN has been in tough financial times and dumped several well paid anchors.
Maybe they sold out. Ted Turner was a long time ago.

Yeah people know what the stakes are but it wasn't because of CNN and the tough questions they asked. I would agree that Kaitlin tried to ask the tough questions to some extent but Trump mainly talked over her, insulted her and didn't really answer her questions other then he repeated all the same stuff he's been saying since he lost in 2020. So yeah people know the stakes because they saw that Trump is the same failed candidate he was in 2020 but that's a far cry from saying Trump mopped the floor with CNN. if anyone mopped the floor with CNN it was CNN, clearly they let this townhall turn out to be what everyone knew it was going to be since it was announced, hoping to grab some of the Fox news viewers that have been leaving Fox news. I'm guessing they did get a bump in the ratings for that town hall but I doubt any of them will stay with CNN.

So who do you guys actually have to vote for this election?
the GOP, in it's headlong rush to oblivion, will no doubt nominate The Chump, unless he is in so much legal trouble that they just give up on him. in which case who the hell knows! DeSantis ? :dunno: the Democrats , despite their open desire for someone besides Biden, will stick with him as the safe alternative to The Chump in case he can run. i can think of about 4 GOP & 5 Democrats i could vote for, IF they got a fair shot at the nomination. i'd like to see Biden win again & let all of these criminal prosecutions winnow the herd of wanna-be POTUS candidates down. there are going to be indictments of people not yet in the headlines, i believe. the mini-me Chump imitators need to go the fuck away, just like their Golden Calf...

I do wonder about the Biden nomination
Biden wasn't that enthused about being POTUS at this stage of his life imho
he answered the call because he was needed bad
now just suppose the dems are trying to set up an exciting primary season
it climaxes with someone fresh and exciting, Biden has some brand and that adds to the moment
then Biden plays the gracious loser, I can smell the love already

I think Harris could beat Chump if it came down to that. She hasn't made an ass out of herself like so many #2s have. Penis and Agnew come to mind right away. No doubt Chump would blurt out some crack about her gender and woman voters would rush to her rescue.

I think she's a deal breaker, I don't have any more issues with her than other politicos
but this is a 'Hillary' situation, Harris would fair no better against Trump than Hillary, probably worse
the big Democrats up top seem to be aware of her weak appeal
so I suspect it will be an interesting democrat process
