top of the heap to third world status in one generation

Somebody has never been to the "third world".

If the biggest store in town has a foosball table, a Coke machine, and a tiny market selling candy etc. - in a town of 2000 people - is that third world ?

Or is third world when children are crawling naked in the streets & dying, as in a recent short video that was on a news website ? I think it was of Africa.

I ask myself what it would be like to live in Tanzania, because that's where Jim Sinclair has his gold mining company.

What is your definition of Primitive ?

Now I want to go on Craigslist and find all the Craigslist locations that are in stereotypical 3rd world areas. if there are any.

Does an apartment in Morocco with a hole in the floor for plumbing count as third world ? That actually sounds like San Francisco, although there's no hole in the floor and the bottom of the latrine is the city sidewalks.

There's no App for that.

Most cities do especially in the south . Every city I've ever lived in has had some horrible events take place especially around the civil war, during reconstruction, and the civil rights era. But it doesnt negate that the city can be a beautiful place with kind people and a loving welcoming culture.

Spent several years along that sector of the gulf coast.
Some of my my favorite memories are of Biloxi area pre Camille.
Would be hard pressed to describe a more beautiful area and more gracious
people.

If it's not trump, it's someone else. There's too much money and power in the presidency, when it's supposed to be in the people.

President Jimmy Carter: The United States is an Oligarchy

Trump and his "drain the swamp" anti-establishment bullshit is why he was elected, not his self proclaimed genius. The next election

Thank you.

Just hearing his voice is a great privilege.
The only president in our lifetime that left
the White House with less money than he went in with.

For you it would rock, as westerners the women flock to you like a celebrity. Guys can be assholes to westerners for that very reason. I go for a month every year to Kenya and usually take a few days to go to Tanzania .

A lot of people dont realize how bad biloxi got it after katrina. All the attention was focused on New Orleans after the levees broke, but im telling you first hand everything 3 miles from the ocean was sucked into the sea on the Mississippi coast looked like nothing I could have ever imagined and that's after having lost my house to hurricane Ivan the year prior. Grandma was in Biloxi and Grandfather was in New Orleans the day of Katrina, they picked the perfect places!

every time that the 2 year old in the White House does not get his way, it becomes an "emergency". idiots that really think that we can build a wall along the border have obviously never seen the terrain there. plus, the people that own land there are gearing up for a court battle to stop it. the Chinese built a wall, a YUGE one (lol). theirs was thousands of miles long & had lookouts & troops posted. it did not work there either. man cannot build something that man cannot figure out how to get around. :tiphat:

The Maginot Line

French military experts extolled the Line as a work of genius that would deter German aggression, because it would slow an invasion force long enough for French forces to mobilise and counterattack.
The line has since become a metaphor for expensive efforts that offer a false sense of security

Words of wisdom from the leader of the free world .

Walls are medieval . They worked then they work now .

President Obama has a wall around his house .

3rd World ??
More a political statement than a standard of living measurement .

Third World
The term "Third World" arose during the Cold War to define countries that remained non-aligned with either NATO or the Communist Bloc. The United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Western European nations and their allies represented the First World, while the Soviet Union, China, Cuba, and their allies represented the Second World. This terminology provided a way of broadly categorizing the nations of the Earth into three groups based on political and economic divisions. Since the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War, the term Third World has been used less and less. It is being replaced with terms such as developing countries, least developed countries or the Global South. The concept itself has become outdated as it no longer represents the current political or economic state of the world.

Bhutan would be 3rd world by that definition .
But they have a GNH . Not GDP . What`s GNH ?
Gross domestic happiness scale .

Thanks for sharin

I can tell if people have been to a 3rd world country by how they talk about it. 99% are not shitholes. Not by any stretch. They're just not "Western". But you won't understand what I'm saying unless you go. And I don't mean on a resort in the Dominican Republic or Cancun.

Very true. The most fun experiences of my life have been in 3rd and 2nd world countries. Life in many ways feels more relaxed and laid back.

Always felt about every place was endlessly interesting, and it was beyond neat to see how they did things.
Have felt like I could be quite happy about anywhere, but this is where my loved one are buried, and I feel the need to be near them.

Think I mentioned to you in the past armedoldhippy that I had a
Vision of the USA of picket fences and everyone looking out for each other in places that a Wonderful life or kindergarten cop were set in !
Totally idealistic I know,,,
On the flight home I thought I should have gone to New England for my little towns and picket fences,, :tiphat:,,, s2:tiphat:

you need to drive through rural Alabama in the spring, when the wisteria are in bloom & the whole fucking world is green, the turkeys are gobbling, newborn calves & foals are frolicking in the new grass. lots of smaller towns will fill your bill of particulars. more quaint small homes set among the huge live oaks & dogwoods and picket fences than you need. i'd move there if i could even with their anti-weed rep. (it is, i believe, greatly exaggerated) if you ever go, just remember to avoid the fire ant mounds.

Sounds interesting, especially since I prefer my blood moon on the rare side.

Gry, I see you often cannot vote on threads or possibly give rep, how many votes does that take to occur in your estimation?

It has never happened to me, so had to ask
