Surely by the time you're at that stage with a line, the work has already been done. Selecting a keeper clone is very different from selecting a parental plant. Maybe talking at cross purposes here. I know you've done both.

the best performers in poor conditions, will be the best performers in optimal conditions.

This is important to me being a guerilla grower. Ive always assumed if I grow plants side by side I’d be able to know and choose the best of the bunch. But this assumes phenos are not so wildly different as far as nute requirements, moisture, etc.

Another scenario to consider…flowering time.
I have two phenos to compare, but, one pheno finishes proper, the other I can’t since I’m limited to outdoors at a certain latitude. Think this cannot be easily addressed and allow proper selection.

Isn't that the easiest selection in history? Best performance isn't objective. Select those that finish in time. Next season get more that finish on time to make further selections from.
Niche pressure determines advantage, best plant in one scenario won't be the best in another. Select for yourself, not a score sheet.

Dude (Tom) isn’t breeding as much as he is breathing new life into his selected seed stock for Thai Haze blood. Getting a fresh crop of seeds so that we can all sift wheat from chaff.

Please show me a good frequency rate of great cultivar? I know of a very few people who are wetting hundred(s) of seeds to find that 5% Good there are a few doing the lions share. Hitting the lotto on a 10 seed pack means you owe us all a beer and a smoke. Like Ace-ing a hole on PGA, you have to by the club house all the drinks.

But most sativas have too much sedation for me,.,mm’s Ohz,Col Red, Panama,BH7 for 3

the male pollen from Johnny made mostly hybrids that had too much sedation for me

crossing to my no/low sedation cbh s1 cut..it did make her more potent..I thank him

but yes there was one that didn’t have sedation, was wonderful and of course I didn’t keep..

Obviously I don’t know what I’m doing here. next couple years I hope to be setup indoors. Also, I share beans, and longer flowering often bring better effect (so I’m told! Lol). Even if I can’t finish them currently, might be gems for someone else.

Snowhigh gave me advice to select my VB’s on effect first (obvious conundrum for me) and then shorter flower plants can always be found amongst that pool.

Agree if it is just about me/my situation then I select what finishes nicely here, my environment. But, in the spirit of community and stewardship I feel like that would be narrow-minded.

I’ve not tried the OH from Madmac. The Tom’s, green OTH and Johnny’s haze through flower~power repro are all very active mentally for me. The purple flowers of OTH, not so much as they are more dreamy and introspective.

dont get me wrong the mad macs most heady then toms then todds and i liked plants in all 3 lines from only a few beans ,,i simply expected less sedative in the lines in generall ,,
