I always assumed that US military contacted their Russian counterparts in Syria prior to the missile launch, or other attacks when russian military were in the area as a professional courtesy and they did the same for US forces whenever we were in the area of their attacks. Of course, the russians would share the info with the Syrians.

There likely is some coordination there. That is a good thing.

So back to electioneering, who do you guys think will get the vp slot? I can't think of another election where the vp mattered much. Palin wound up being an important hindrance and i think hurt McCains campaign....though lol in retrospect as she was a proto trump style politician and mccain brought that to the mainstream and it bit him in the ass.

I get it, but I really wish the field of potential candidates was wide open, doesnt sit well to insist it has to be a person from any specific gender/race.

Do you guys think it matters who he picks and will it be necessary to pick the right person to get over the finish line? I liked Klobuchar in the primary and thought she would be a good vp pick as she would help from a geographic/style perspective with states biden needs to win, but she says she is not interested. Tammy Duckworth seems to have sharper edges, has the military thing going for her, similar geographic region to klob...so thats my pick. Warren and harris got talked about as top contenders but I really think they would have a palin effect and do more harm than good, both piss of the bernie people that need to stay on board and neither of them have any appeal to the moderate Republicans dems are courting.
Klobuchar would have been a hard no for me. As is Harris. Warren would be acceptable. Duckworth or Gabbard would be good, with Gabbard being preferred due to her foreign policy.

Truthfully, I'm all in on the Articles of Unity project. A completely bat crap crazy idea that would probably work pretty damned well.

one protein molecule in one of his pubic hairs forgot more about astrophysics than you'll ever know

:dancer:

lol i like that emoji too

Maybe he should stick to astrophysics then. He either does not get thermodynamics or is deliberately perpetuating scientific fraud. I think it's the latter. He certainly, should not be talking about biology.

i have a small bag of shitty tools, but i definitely don't have the hundreds of dollars i'd need for a bunch of nice tools i'd need to start a company, nor do i think that's even a thing ppl do these days... our government loves helping big business squash the little guy.

remember when our dads could pump gas for a living, pay for school without debt, and support a family but still own a house? yeh, i don't remember it either, but apparently that's how the 50s were...

what's that, hvac? plumbing? i wish i went to school for that... years ago i tried to do electricians apprentice, but they all wanted me to have 2 years experience... how am i supposed to have experience if nobody would let me apprentice?

anyway, now i just do knee smacking, back cracking boring ass menial labor for a giant corporation. most i've ever been paid, but still feels like barely a living wage.
I do remember what it was like. Parts of it extended well into the seventies. Different that what we have now. It was hard not have things turn out well.
In reading your posts, am reminded of what it was like when well educated people were considered the norm.

I don't agree with subsidizing corporations, but for the most part we live in a capitalist economy. Businesses like Amazon are hard to compete against for reasons we all know why. I watched my dad start a business with nothing but a work van and a bag of tools, I worked with him since I was a kid and now we are very successful and went a long way from where we started.

Great.

Try doing that today.

Good luck!

Outside of large cities that are Union only you can still start a business like my dad did. Many people who worked for my dad went on their own. You can also rent tools if you don't have the right tool for the job. To get my plumbing license I went to trade school for 2 years, cost me a little over 4k which you can make payments on. I couldn't get into an apprentice program either because the family business was slow at the time and I wouldn't get the hours needed so I went to work at a state prison for four years in the maintenance department, after four years the state couldn't deny my plumbing license.

Where I live we have a shortage of people who work in the trades. People are constantly starting new plumbing and hvac businesses, usually after working a while for a contractor. You would start out doing small jobs until you get more equipment but it's definitely possible people do it all the time.

i think i know where you are headed with this line of reasoning.

lemme guess: something something second law of thermodynamics, something something entropy, something something the complexity of life is impossible something... you don't believe in the fact of evolution and/ or the scientific theory of evolution (common descent by natural selection)?

one of my favorite topics, i've been loving biology since before i was even in preschool.

interested to know what you believe and to have a serious convo about it, maybe we should start a new thread

(btw, the laws of thermodynamics are directly tied into ndt's expertise, it's a standard in classical physics; no classical physics = no astrophysics)
