It's pretty simple.

The US is a constitutional republic, or if you prefer, a constitutional democratic republic. The "democratic" part is all over the place, however - some portions are direct, some are indirect, and some simply give lip service to the idea. The critical part, however, is "constitutional", which is what keeps the two wolves from deciding what is on the menu.

Ok so you're a constitutionalist?

I'm not particularly against the term democratic, but if you are against using it to describe the specific action of appointment I can accept the preference towards accuracy.

:tiphat:

PS Sin taxes are a thing too... and just imagine the double jeopardy on suicide!

Wow. And I thought "republic" was the critical part.

Really?

A list of "republics" includes: China, Cuba, the former USSR, Pakistan, Yemen, most of Africa, and a host of other places that I would prefer not to live.

"Democratic republics" include: North Korea, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, the former East Germany, etc.

A Republic is where you're ruled by laws. The government or majority can't harm you. That's where your constitution steps in to protect you. In a democracy, you're ruled by the majority. If people don't like you, you can legally be lynched, vote yourself money, etc. Hence "The Great Experiment." A strong Republic is what you need, and why you need the best of your people to sit on the Supreme Court - to protect your rights! The republics you mention are in name only and certainly don't have constitutions meant to protect the individual. They're meant to rule the individual.

The US Constitution goes so far to protect the individual, it even protects ME, as a foreigner. If I visit your country to go shopping, the instant my foot lands on US soil, I'm protected by your constitution. Don't let people like Trump tell you the US isn't already great. They're just blowing smoke up your ass to get you to vote for them (both D and R will do that).

Your founding fathers wrote your constitution to tell the King of England "We will not be ruled. We are a nation of Free Men. Every single one of us. So Fuck You."

On an interesting note, The best writer of the bunch was Benjamin Franklin, everyone knew it. But they didn't trust him to write the constitution it because they thought he'd put in a joke. LMAO!! On a personal note, I think he was a time traveler. He was at almost every interesting place in time. The First Postmaster General in the first city in north america (Quebec City), He was at the first heavier than air flight in history (A hot air balloon in Paris), and just happen to be in the room when they wrote the US constitution. There's much much more, but I'll leave it at that. Interesting fellow.

You make my point for me, this is exactly why I said that constitutional was the critical portion. There are roughly 200 republics, very few of which afford their population the protections that the US does.

The DRPK is a democratic republic in the same way the nazis were socialists.

They aren't. Both are examples of how totalitarians use populist language and populist movements to take power.

Once again proving the point about the importance of "constitutional"...

What do you have to do to be a worse turd than Sessions?

Granted, that's not easy.
Whitaker is on record saying that Meuller is going too far.
Must be how he got the job, yah?

That. and the pass he got from the "ethics" committee to be in that position.
This was set up long ago.
I've been watching it.
And it has just begun.
Buckle up! :)
