Yeah I've been growing 10 years not a pro by any means but I never popped and old seeds like this I live in NorCal yes the stripes run the whole seed and are large seeds. I'm sure the seeds are what they say and the person who gave them to me is a breeder and know what selection to make for males and what not he gave them to me cause I keep a clean facility.Seeds will be made cuts will be shared we are going to awake a sleeping monster

Yes, foxy, it is quite the experience. The real skunkbud we grew sold for $20 / 1/4oz more than almost anybody elses around our region, except for one other growing family around and theres was the same price as ours, and at the other end of the county. This was in the mid - late 80's.
One day I came out to sit on the porch and talk to the old man, I noticed he was rolling a really fat one, I said nothing except hello basicly. In just a few seconds he finished his rolling and held the thing up and said I'll give you this completely free with one condition, the ol man rarely gave anything away free and there was maybe close to a dime bag in this one joint, I said "what;s the condition?" He said "you gotta sit here on the porch and smoke the whole thing by yourself. Ha, ha, ha, I puffed like a Rasta on that thing about half way through it I was staring at the tree in the front yard so long it went out and made keep going till it was gone. I was so frickin baked you probably could have slapped me and I'd laughed at ya.

By the way our seeds were nearly the size of lemon seeds sometimes, and were brown with distinct black stripes. Y'all have good 'un.

One more thing, I've been kind off here so I read back and saw posts from folks pertaining to my post. #1 I'd like to say thank you to the folks that liked my recount of some long ago memories #2 I'm pretty sure you got the right beans the Ol' Man handed me a book one day he said if you want to learn more about growing reefer than I might teach you the book was, "The Mariuana Growers Guide" by, Mel Frank and Ed Rosenthal. He also, as he handed the book to me he pointed at Mel Franks name and whispered almost, "that's where the seeds originally came from."
I will tell ya this, if somehow you have true Mel Frank Skunkbud seeds ya better hold on to all you can if it's to your liking, because the problem we had was that everybody who bought a !/4 bag or whatever they nearly always got a seed or two hard to stop all them when growing outdoors in a very hostile politicle environment toward weed at that time. Meaning we couldn't risk going too close to our patches too often. My main point is, I don't believe skunkbud died out, or faded out, of popularity because it was replaced by something better, I believe it simply got bred out. People got them and then bred them to this and that and ya had new strains with fancy names coming out all the time that may or may not have been truly better, but easier to get maybe at the time, or folks just wanted to try this new stuff coming arround ya know. That's my thoughts and observasions, yours may differ but I'm glad we are free to speak them freely. Y'all have good 'un.

Can anyone name a single volatile with sulfur in it that's known to exist in Cannabis, much less the type we're talking about? When someone mentions their skunky bud headspace volatiles analysis found sulfur, or anything else, that will be more than what we have to go on now. Going on about sulfur molecules like Cannabis is a skunk's ass is wasted space.

I saved all my seeds from the bags of the 90's and grew a few back then. Late 90's bags had few seeds, and the odor was very penetrating then - not really something you'd want to grow or smuggle. Where would the most idiotic place to save seeds be? Next to the pizza oven?

If in the few months it will take to find out, you do get a true skunk, i would drive down to cali bring some dab and pay you for a cut. I haven't had any skunk since 96 and i am going out of my mind because all of these hybrids don't work for me anymore! i am high for 10 minutes tops from dabs, if i fart i am sober...fuck this! i need that true in my life again! i smoked skunk daily for years and never once built a tolerance to it....

I really wish that was it. In Seattle back in the early 90's skunky smelling weed was the norm, if it smelt sweet or piney it just didn't have the same effect so we always passed on anything but the skunk bud. One toke and you were as high as weed could possibly take you for 4 hours or even longer. No flower on this earth has had that effect on me since the day i left Seattle in 96, don't get me wrong the weed i grow stinks like fuck and everybody who gets it loves it, its just not the same genetics as the skunky stuff from back in the day, everything else is weak in comparison.

Agreed. What we need is a verified list pertaining to cannabis in specific, not just any old random thiols and terps that exist in nature. Even then, that is just the first step. How do you effectively increase the production level of said thiol(s)?

It has been mentioned some throughout the thread. The general consensus is that it's much more involved and complex than just breeding Mazar, Acapulco and Columbian gold together. And we can't seem to get much information about making selections.

Joe and Blaysor ^ Yes, I am starting to work on trying at least to re-breed the old Skunkbud as we called it. Also I already know that it's not quite as easy as just breeding the 3 (ingredients) A Gold, C Gold, and Afghani Indica). Those are simply as I said the three ingredients but, there's quite a bit more to horticultural husbandry ie. just simply breeding on to the other and so forth, than making biscuits. But, I do have enough horticultural and animal breeding background that with the access of information we have available to us now that I can at least give it a hell of a try. Actually, I've even decided to make this my life's crusade, if you will, of bringing back the REAL Skunkbud one way or another. If you've been reading my posts you can see that I have the knowledge and memories of the exact features and nuances of the plant, how to grow it, as well as the smoke when I smell, taste, and experience it. As well as the fact that I may actually can procure beans from the old real strain some of us remember. You know it's gotta be some damn fine smoke when everybody that's had still remembers it 25 years later! That's why I am 99% confident that I can score some seeds from some old very good friends. remember I have gotten and smoked some that I am 100% sure it was within the last 2 years.
One more thing, I admit that I'm by no means any organic chemist and know everything about turpenes and thiols as some here are debating, I feel that's truly great knowledge to have and I am thankful for those that have it. I know how to grow top shelf herb, and even then I admit I'm no real expert, but consider this, if you will, I have not bought a bag in probably the last 15 years out of necessity, but to simply try new things and different strains. I've sustained my own habit for that long by growing. The point I'm trying to get to is simple. I'f in doubt still then go to cabelas, Bass pro, or even wal-mart this time of year and buy a bottle of Skunk essence. Hunters use it to mask human scent when hunting uusually deer or trapping, shake well take the top off and stick your nose in that bottle. You'll notice the two smells are absolutely and completely different. Skunkbud smells not quite but almost exactly like the skunk essence and nothing like sulpher. Sulpher is one of the main ingredients in gun powder. Ever smelled fireworks? That stench is sulpher.

This is what your missing. No one said it was sulphur. They said it had sulphur in the terpene. Means just one part. Not just Sulphur.

Please don't do selection on the line. Just open pollinate with as many as possible, then do selections from those if you feel you want to do something with it.
