i was just handed a seed pack from the 80s labeled Mel Frank skunk i am really excited about popping these i will be doing all i can to make them live also from the same guy i received a couple small tupperwares and they were labeled NL5xSK and the other was HAZE and then a bag that said AFXSK and the he said to me this is a seed company.HE is a trusted source so i am really pumped and hope i can get these to pop as they are old but he still has a stash of some diff stuff and said if we get these going we can crack into the rest of the stash. SKUNK SEEDS FROM THE 80s wish me luck

Am I reading that wrong or does the statement from the link not refer to a thiol as being a Hemiterpene?

thiols are alcohols or analogues of an alcohol. i'm not sure if that separates from being a terpene

i didnt realize it was a different type of terp. i thought thiols were considered different.
hemiterpene. ill look into it. thats the chem. a name like that doesnt exactly roll off the ol tongue from my memory without looking it up.:biggrin:

as far as my buddy could tell, there were no standards available for analysis in those fancy mass spectrometer get ups. he said he suspects the trouble of handling such an offensive pure chem wasnt met with any demand for it.

maybe thatll change soon.

oh boy id give just about anything for the chemically pure form of that, just for spritzing the disp owners car who fucked me over lol.

nice. make a thread on it or at least kepp us posted here. sounds like a cool project. there are some tricks to popping old ass beans like that.

Thiol means alcohol with sulfur in place of the oxygen, nothing more. There's no reason to believe the sought after odor has sulfur in it, or is based on isoprene units.

S-2-phenylethyl thioacetate, bis[(E)-2-butenyl] disulfide, (E)-2-butenyl 3-methylbutyl disulfide, bis(3-methylbutyl) disulfide, and S-2-quinolinemethyl thioacetate. This secretion is similar to that of the striped skunk, Mephitis mephitis, differing only in that it contains four compounds not reported from the striped skunk: phenylmethanethiol, S-phenylmethyl thioacetate, 2-phenylethanethiol, and S-2-phenylethyl thioacetate.
 
what are the tricks for popping those ols beans i have a couple ideas the guy i got them from said to lightly roll the seeds on a sandpaper to take all the tiger stripes off and use a good kelp what are some of best techs for popping seeds that are this old?

I scuff in a match box lined with sand paper and soak in distilled water in a coffee cup cleaned with peroxide and I soak them till I get tails for days if I have to. Of course new gens get tails in 12-24 hours. But Ive waited up to 5 days on some old fem beans. I just would change some of the water out with fresh after a couple of days.

Im sure allot of people on here will have a few ideas... Good luck...

PS: You dont have to scuff them that much I sake mine and count to 10 done. You just want to scratch the wax layer a btt you don't want to go through the shell at all.

I tried seed surgery I called it on some 10 year old seeds. I used razor blade n carefully sliced open the shell. most of the embryo's seemed viable, but nothing grew. After failing, I wish I had done more. with what u have, I would go the extra mile n be patient n try every trick. gl

Do the seeds have full tiger stripes?

If they have the full tiger stripes and it is the full length of the seed. You might have gold mate. Are they big? You should get yourself some gibberellic acid and learn the shit out of popping seeds before you even attempt to get those babies going. Unless you have the ability to keep mothers and breed and sustain this strain, then it would be a pity to see such things wasted by a novice, just to see if they could pop them. I am not saying your a novice, I just hope you understand that many people would sell their left nut to have those seeds, if they are what you claim. If you don't think you will be able to create seeds or keep a cut alive and well for breeding or sharing, I hope you will think of the greater picture and pass a few to someone who could do all these things. Maybe someone in a legal state. Again not doubting you or your skills. Just treasure a gift you have. I hope it is what you say. The seeds sounds to have a good description.
