Back in 1988 I had the best lime green golfball round nugs of SK#1 (RKS)
Smelled like a skunks backend after getting hit by a car.
My first attempt at growing the 4x beans the guy gave me.
I had 2 males and 2 females. I was young and stupid and not knowing much about growing, other than an Ask Ed grow book, put the females on the roof in an apt complex to catch up to the size of the males, and they got taken by my neighbors kids.
What I would give to get those back.

That strain has inspired awe and wonder in me and Im still growing to this day to find that skunky goodness. Been crossing GG#4 to a bunch of stuff to try and get something even remotely similar, but it will never be the same. Not even close.
Same with a perticular cut of Afghani.....MMMMMMMMmmmm........ Was sooooo good.
Nothing like todays strains.

The thing that I don't get is this?

A lot of people spruce it up about how good they are and all this shiza, we have terpene testing available, gas chromograph, gene testing and probably more people at this time then any other time in history breeding varieties of cannabis (i guess there is more to come or are we at a pinnacle so to speak?) So more different varieties, genes, phenotypes being tested then ever and......

No one can tell me much about the skunk terpene profile and no one can breed like it or it or knows where a cut resides or has seed?

at least on the internet.

I smoked some of it in Amsterdam. In 2011. The dude at the counter of the sensi seed Hash museum Named Joshua that looked a bit like an Amish dude had some, he would not sell me any, he let me touch it as if teasing, he had gotten some from a friend that worked at the cannabis college. It was personal from him. It looked the same nuggets that came from a plant which I have seen to grow at most I think 4 foot high wide leaves and by todays standards not the best yeilder. It had the greatest calyx to leaf ratio I have ever seen ever. It was memorable because at the end of growing it stood as one main nugget cola and two pallette leaves out each side of the bud. These were basically the only leaves.

These things smelt like nothing else. The smell is strong like a kush can smell strong. I personally think Kush has some RKS genes, even cheese is similar, just not as strong bit more dull dare I say it. Cheese the exo cut seems to have a structure as though maybe it was bred with a RKS but even it gets larger, like some sativa influence. Things that sound similiar maybe is Northcal or So cal cat piss. The shorter one anyway. Garlic bud? I think maybe get all these and go nuts with breeding them forwards, backswards side ways and beyond and we may find a RKS, or at least something getting closer. I'm having a crack sooner or later. Hopefully I can ducksfoot it, cross it with Mongy madness, make it a purple and then everyone will smell it a mile away and yet not even find the plant ever again and it will be lost.

We also had a more piney RKS and a Eucalypt RKS, but only smoke them not grew them. I think these terpenes have something to do with it maybe. I can also speak out my arse sometimes as well and am only an amateur herbalist and terpene researcher, so no claims of expertise here.

Also the high was the best thing about it I thought. Where I'm from I don't think I have had much close to what skunk was. Longest lasting, reddest eyes and giggley shit. Always smiling with Garfeild eyes and couldn't look at counter staff. Might have made me a bit dopey, only slept when it was running out though after about 5 hours. Maybe at the time all I needed was a dopey good time with no significant worries for the Afternoon other then to enjoy and smile.

Sam are you testing any of the RKS seeds genes you have said you have? in that DNA testing your doing?

Will it be able to tell parentage or plants similar? Terpene profiles? I am not sure how much anyone can actually tell yet by looking at DNA yet?

I have 2 plants Going of my norcal catpiss x gg4. Hoping to find some stinky shit in them. If not...toss them out and try more

Maybe the key is working the specific gene types to increase pungency. As many have already stated, the skunk terpene profile can be found easily in numerous strains - bringing it out and making it seriously reek like the old RKS is the problem.

GG stinks but the nose is nothing like RKS to me it is Sour Chocolate/Moca Chemo front with a touch of sweet back end... Nothing Skunk to me.

I agree, but that doesn't mean you can't create a skunk with its gene pool. I would like to get my hands on dogshit. Gg4 x catpiss x dogshit could be a decent starting point for a skunk of a sorts.

RP's R.K.S stands for Really "Killer" skunk not "road kill skunk" I grew a few a while back they were total sweet smells, I would not expect anything stinky, the name is misleading.

That is what Sam has told me and I've been reversing fellas ever since.

That's why you can't extract it from a fem line or fem cutting as well. At least not in 100 maybe out of thousands you might get lucky.

See Cheese, the cat pisses, and other clone only's are fem's only. We need something to look for a male in.

God forbid there be a thread on here that doesn't talk about GG4.

FWIW the most skunk smelling plants I have ever found were from Med Mans RKS, the males stunk like a skunk in veg, none of the females retained a skunk smell thru flowering, however one pheno was very unique in looks and smell, really odd oniony funk.

I had some accidental seeds get made by the oniony skunk female that hermed x my schrom clone, schrom is a 72 columbian gold x romulan hybrid, I've got the funny feeling some interesting smells will be found in those seeds.

sidebar,,, when i was in Spain it got brought to my attention that people in europe do not even know what skunk is.... that's right,, they have no skunks in EU,,, so it is beyond hilarious to me when i see one participating in these discussions.. It would not be outside of reality to even doubt Sam remembers...
