@moose eater were/are you finding your own chaga or buying it?
We have it on birch trees in the area, but I was buying bulk as well.

I still have lbs. of the stuff around here some place from after I got done making tea for so long and became disenchanted with it..

I was also doing a lot of bitter melon smoothies, both for diabetes/A1C and for cancer. Still have some frozen pint jars in the fridge from those days, too.

I was eating fairly stout doses twice a day of THC-A made from my own crops with ethanol, among other semi-established methods of addressing health issues at that time, including the vegan diet.

I checked and the fellow I was buying some of my chaga from was, if I recall correctly, under the name Black Wolf Chaga, or something like that. I believe he's in the Fairbanks area. First name is Ron.

I still have a telephone number (cell phone) but can't say for sure that he's still in that market.

I think I was paying between $15 and $20/lb. bulk.

I just think it’s a dumb idea…
One of my best all-time canine buddies was named Jeremy. He was the pup of the AKC Norwegian elkhound I hitchhiked around North America with for years. He was 1/2 elkhound, 1/4 GSD, 1/8 husky and 1/8 coyote. Loved kids and playing with them, loved to travel, protected my 1964 Ford F-100 like it was his own (the doors didn't lock, not with a key, anyway), and was just plain loyal, dependable, and lovable.

Cancer took him out in the early 1990s.

I was riding my fist, nicer 1992 HD FLHS over to Northern Manitoba to visit friends from the Yukon Territory in a little town called The Pas. Phoned home from Hudson's Hope near the Peace River just NW of Ft. St. John, BC, from a payphone booth there, just after sundown. My wife told me he'd fallen down in the driveway when she'd taken him out at our home in Valdez.

I offered to turn the bike around and head home and she told me to continue on my way and she and the vet would keep him alive until I returned, which they managed to do.

Got back home about 12 or 14 days later and was afforded enough time with him after my return to lay on the floor with him, stroking his mane and head, staring into his eyes the night he passed away.

Let me know if you get low. I come across it during my time in the woods on occasion. If it's established I harvest a reasonable amount. I will send some as a gift if you ever need it again. It would come as chunks to shave off as needed.

I'm into primitive fire starting and chaga is both valuable and sacred in the world of fire. It's health benefits make it that much cooler.

There's just something about fungus.

I just tried his phone number and he answered.

The good news is that he's still in the chaga market. The bad news is he sold the last of what he had yesterday.

Said he'll have more in March, pointing out the obvious; it's -40 f at the moment and he's back to working full-time.

He stated that his current pricing is, for bulk (30 lbs. or more), $21/lb. and for smaller amounts, $25/lb.

He typically removes most of the black rind, as he doesn't believe that to be "wholesome", but if folks want the black rind left on, he'll do so on a custom order basis.

Very cool!

Thanks.

For the moment I'm burned out on chaga tea. But who knows what the future holds.
