My most recent 'dietary sinning' involved 6 or 7 Prince of Peace Ginger Chews last night... Every now and then I get a masochistic urge to re-establish authority over ingesting potentially harmful treats, but MAN they're tasty, and it's been over 15 years since I drank a really tasty ginger beer, so the occasional cheating with the ginger chews gets rationalized approval.
I had some ginger chews a few months ago and just love them. I was afraid I was going to pull a crown off but one after them anyway. I don’t use sugar or alcohol in my life, but I made exception for the chews

I didn't know until this last year or so that they are effectively used to negate or counter nausea.

And I think they're made with raw cane sugar (the ones we get, anyway), though at some point, carbs is carbs.

Why we more or less gave up brown rice, too.

I am, and always have been very health conscious when it comes to eating. I don’t eat any fast food, or any alcohol, but love the food that I do eat. It’s becoming more difficult to find good quality Whole Foods in the supermarket pack, full of chemicals and preservatives.I eat the organic meat and I spend my money in the vegetable department. I have one grain that I love which is dark wild brown rice but it’s over $10 for a container now and they’re not that big.

Just ate some wild rice from Minnesota First Nations' land the other day. WAY too good, and it reminds me of wild rice, oyster, giblet and water chestnut stuffing from when I was a kid, and my mother would let me eat any leftover/extra raw oysters.

The carb punch on wild rice is relatively formidable too.

It is in everything so you gotta really read labels and mostly make your own foods.
We make nearly everything from scratch, and raised our three kids for over 30 years on mostly wild game and fish (hence, my moniker), though I haven't had any notable amount of moose in the freezers in 2-1/2 to 3 years or so.

But years ago I went in to the local (large) Kroger (Fred Meyer) and was examining canned chili. Out of about 10 different brands, there was only ONE that didn't have sugar in it.

I make a pretty good Tex-Mex chili with meat and a stoutly pungent mole' sauce as base, and I never put any sugar in it. If I want to give it just a slight softening of the abruptness of the mole', like just a tiny bit of sweetener, then I might use a micro-drizzle of real maple syrup, like, maybe 2 tsp. to 3+gallons of chili.

Man. I have so many thoughts on this... Sigh. Condensing things down... The bullshit that occurred in 2019 forced me to reevaluate life and how I wanna live it...and what I want for the kids... We had just had our son...and the world went to shit somehow... Anyway. I hustled my ass off and swung for the fences...by what almost seemed like divine intervention we were able to get a nice home with some acreage...finally able to escape the city and get out into the hills...very, very lucky.

We grow as much of our own food as possible...spring and summer are very busy around here...Mrs Hash is a herbalist and has the *real* green thumb in our family. I just lift heavy things, feed the animals, and make compost. Lol.

I hunt our property, and travel frequently during spring to get trout...I'm happy we landed where we did, and am just grateful. I'm not supposed to even be here so every day is a true blessing, and I don't take any part of this place we call home for granted.👊

I wish more people would do it... And more are. Can be a lot of work, but it it helps me sleep well. 😁🙏

We cook from scratch most often. I don’t buy canned/processed foods much but have been buying canned tomatoes I found with no salt added. We eat fresh veggies mostly and don’t eat meat everyday. I’m super picky about where the meat and seafood comes from and don’t buy farmed fish/shrimp or anything from China. We do eat out on occasion and I know I’m eating that China food. I’m a sucker for hot wings so there’s that. And like Big, I’m not off the sugar thing yet

Have to be really careful with pork...if anyone isn't aware... China holds over 60% of pork in the United States through Smithfield. They treat the pigs with ractopamine (a phenol based feed "additive" that is supposed to increase food conversion in livestock).

We don't know the side effects of ractopamine...but it's banned in the US and many other countries.... But China uses it... Almost like they wanna kill us... Fentanyl precursors... Poison in the food... That thing called the China virus...

Don't get me wrong... I'm sure the Communist government that runs China wouldn't want as many incidental Americans dead as possible. Nah. Probably coincidental.

Regardless my pork comes from a local farm.
