FWIW, one of the more annoying after effects of my bypass surgery is that the area of the incision along my sternum stayed number for several years. Now when i say it was annoying it didn't cause me any problems or discomfort I just didn't like having this area of numbness down the center of my chest and there was nothing I could do to fix it. After two or so years of it still being numb I concluded that I was never going to regain sensation there and just learned to not pay it any more attention. Then one day, several years later (not sure how long) I was touching my incision and noticed it was no longer numb.Ya - I'm about (somewhere) - had a quite weekend - lots of snooz'in - and actually got back to a little writing today - still have a bit of a numb chest around the pacemaker - but no real pain - just a little muscle ache from exercising - been a good boy in recovery - ate - slept - and walked mostly - can now carry a full backpack again - just need a bit more mental clarity - and I should get that by applying myself to writing again - after all those meds I was taking for pain and what-all-else - makes it hard to focus - I find - kinda scrambles the grey matter - lol
So this is just a warning that the numbness might be long term,, yet also encouragement that at some point in time any lost sensation should return. Hopefully for you it will return more quickly?
