Ahh - Crown 👑 Land - would that be belonging to King Charles's Crown Estate? - someone told me that 80+% of Canadian land was owned by the British royal families Crown Estates - Hmmm -
Yes, we are part of the Commonwealth.

In Canada, land ownership is not directly controlled by the British monarch. Instead, it’s governed by Canadian law. The British North America Act (BNA Act) of 1867, which serves as Canada’s written constitution, outlines the country’s governance. While the king or queen of the United Kingdom is recognized as the king or queen “of Canada,” they do not have the authority to confiscate land in Canada12. Land ownership in Canada is subject to the Crown, a concept that has been in place since Britain acquired much of Eastern Canada from France in 17633. So, the short answer is no—the king of England cannot take Canadian land directly.

Contrary to public rumors, Canadians do not pay money to Britain or the Royal Family. Funds provided by Canada go towards the offices of the Governor General and Lieutenant Governor, rather than routine expenses of the Queen1. The British government supports the monarch and some of his family financially through the Sovereign Grant, which covers the costs of the sovereign’s official expenditures2. The Sovereign Grant is funded by profits from the Crown Estate, a property business owned by the monarch but run independently. These profits are used as a benchmark to calculate the funding given by the government to the Royal Family3. It’s important to note that Canadians do not directly contribute to the personal income or support of the royal family members outside of Canada. Instead, the Sovereign Grant primarily covers expenses related to official duties, property upkeep, and staff costs4.

I hope you found your answer, I don't believe we have the financial obligations we did prior to 1982

Canada still spends millions towards The House of Windsor in 2023 $58.7 million dollars.
Royal's visits costs are paid by the Canadian citizens.

When Prince Harry & family lived in Canada after his spat with family. Canadians got riled over paying for security.
