Picked up another oil cartridge at a nice shop in Eugene.it is 250mg of Gorilla Glue #4, from O.pen Vape, very pricey because it is their high end craft reserve. Not at all worth the extra money. I'm not sure if it is gimmick bs or what but the bud tender told me that it goes through a double co2 extraction to add its own terepens back into the oil. I couldn't even taste any flavor, so pretty disappointed. I did pick up a new battery that I like. It's an O. Pen Vape 2.0 with rapid charge, an on and off button, 4 voltage levels, battery check level, shatter and wax high voltage level for add on accessories.,

I harvested & hung my dank early finisher. 7 seeds recovered so far, at least half a dozen still hiding in there & the scissor hash tastes fantastic.

I usually do a 4 bucket bud dunk when I chop, doubt I'll have to this time. 3 inches rain since the weekend, + another 1 inch today.

Spotty bud rot in just a few tops. Dug one apart and found a cat! Does something enter the stem below the top and work it's way into bud? Saw one with weird damage and stem rot about 4 inches below a nice top.

Colder temps pulling some nice colors out.

Nice pics folks.

Is a "four bucket bud dunk" one of them new rap-dances you kids are doing these days?

I had a few cats- maybe 20- that I killed this year. I know they crawl into buds and cause rot but that is about all I know about them.

Moths lay eggs on your buds. Egg hatches and caterpillar climbs in for a bite to eat. You gotta spry BT and or Spinosad to keep them from taking to much from you. I sprayed religiously this year twice a week and so far only found 3 damaged buds. They usually find the biggest nicest colas and shit all over the place in there.

Some great looking crops there Rob!

I don't spray anything ever, beyond rooted clone stage. 1 prophylactic treatment of neem/pyrtehrum as <12" babies & that's it. ;)

Hate those caterfuckers. Guaranteed bud rot and insect shit in your flowers. Gross.

We were swarmed by ganja frogs this season. Didn't bother to spray, they seemed cool. There would be 4-6 on each big mother plant each afternoon.

Robrites, what is that beautiful purple plant? Looks amazing and I bet it smells awesome!

I am thinking food...what are those frogs eating? Or are they attracted to the shade/moisture from the plants?

I call that strain Desert Dream. Daddy was a high-desert Indica from Central Oregon and Mom was a Blueberry Snow. If you get within 50 feet, you smell Heaven on the Wind.

So much for my weather forecast, West side got absolutely dumped on. Picked up over an inch my place.

Very spotty bud rot on only 3 so far. Watch your tops, sneaks up on you.

Rippers are hitting everywhere now. Friend near Mac ville lost all 4. Another East of Eugene lost several tops. Rain didn't slow the thieves at all. Scanner traffic last night had several calls of people jumping fences.

Good luck folks. Again sorry for the bunk forecast.

Thieves should be shot. I dunno about weathermen, but they cannot get anything right in the PNW.

For both reasons I moved my plants inside under lights to finish last week. Early rains this year. Started harvesting this week. Minor bud rot so far, even in an outdoor greenhouse due to condensation at night. Easy to remove the rot though, I stay on top of that. Powdery mildew was a problem this year as well with all the summer rains. I used a lot of Neem, which works wonders on that.

Last year was perfect; rainless from June (um, I mean JULY 1!!!) through August, late and warm in October. I finished them outdoors last year. No Neem needed either.

Rain kicked my ass. The other day had one downpour that was Biblical. I've lived in this spot for 27 yrs and never seen standing water where I did. I had emptied a 5 gal bucket the night before and had over 4" in it after that storm. Most of it fell in a half hour. Rain was bouncing off the ground about 8", just kept coming in sheets. I was watching the ladies snap at their supports. Very sad day.

Last year mining sucked with no rain, this year should have went digging.

I saw absolutely zero white powdery mildew in organics this year, rot was extensive though.

Hope every one of you had better luck.

Yeah this year isn't finishing well. It was nice here today and supposed to be tomorrow. But then downpour rain for another week.
Crossing my fingers for my pathogen resistance to pay off.
The kimbo kush I have running outside is powder mildew resistant, but I'm not sure about botrytis.
This weather will be the judge
I wish there was more outdoor breeders in the pnw testing and breeding with selection intention for mold resistance mainly.

Still have some going outside that have barely been touched by the rot. They didn't see wpm either. Bodhi Snow Leopard. Real greasy stuff, figure that's what has protected it. Hit them all with neem oil from a fog applicator prior to the rains just in case.

Got some keepers too out of 5 strains. Kept cuttings from all prior to flower, the ones that were self supporting and resistant will get further trials.

Huge mistake was not having a good drying room with a dehu. RH in the valley for the last several days has been in the upper 80's, foggy tonight. Heater and fan in dry room still a fight to get below 70 rh, trying to get below 60. Those that are outside yet will get to dry in a better room with a dehu.

Mine are still rocking. Granted they're the size of average indoor plants due to a side yard/far from full sun setting. But for all this rain and my first hobby/for fun plants, it's been great. My Cherry Skunk is almost ripe enough to harvest as well as the trashplant x royal og. Work wise, our switch to full rec is happening next week. Lots of barcodes to put on and inventory to count. I've been able to get just the tiniest bit of bud (10 lbs.) In since October 1st came with new testing requirements. Bah

Here is my patch of sativa. So far this patch has been impervious to powdery mildew and botrytis. We have had lots of wind and rain down here in southern Oregon but not as bad as folks up north. May all be blessed with a great harvest season.

I wish there was more outdoor breeders in the pnw testing and breeding with selection intention for mold resistance mainly.

I am an outdoor breeder, but this year I turned my attention to 4 of the top ten medical strains and did not breed anything. I ran with Ghost OG Kush, White Widow, GDP, and Blue Dream. Of the 4, GDP had the worst powdery mildew problem, even on the stems. Blue Dream had the worst bud and stem rot problem, though GDP was a close second. I also had to harvest GDP early because of rot. I will likely not grow either of those strains again. The Ghost cut of OG Kush has the best rot resistance of the lot, though I had some velvet stem rot on it growing it indoors last winter (not the plant's fault, it got too humid and one fan died on me before). It is easy to clone as well. White Widow was good this year because of the really early and short bloom cycle. I had just a few spots of rot in some really large WW bud clusters. It tends to have straggly stems and a lot of inter-growth though. It is also really easy to clone.

I have a large landrace seed collection, and of those I have found the South Mexican sativas to be the most rot and fungal resistant early on. I get no dampening off of the seeds, even after being frozen for over 30 years. The indicas that I have are all susceptible to dampening off, so I have to use sterile soils and soak them in a hydrogen peroxide solution before I germinate them. I had zero powdery mildew last year here with my landrace Mexican sativas or my ET heirloom indicas that I was crossing. The pow. mildew this year appeared first on the GDP after I put them all out in the greenhouse in the late spring, and it was starting to spread to the others when I noticed it. Neem oil works very well on that though, mixed at 1:100 and sprayed liberally. All the PM was gone in a day after spraying. I have read online of some guys recommending dumping all your plants with any PM showing. No need to do that with Neem oil.

Several ways to avert rot and mildew growing outdoors in the PNW seem to be 1) select and breed strains that bloom and finish early to avoid early October wet weather; 2) or grow them in large 15 gallon pots like I do and move them into a dark place for 5 nights in a row in early August to force earlier blooming; 3) select and breed rot and milder resistant strains. I would do #3 but I do not have a rec grow license, and to do that right you would need to grow a lot of crossed seeds and select the best ones that showed the most resistance to rot and mildew for several generations. You would also have to grow in wet and unfavorable conditions and sacrifice a lot of colas to find the best plants for resistance and then clone and breed or re-clone them. If you have a rec license you are not going to make money that way, and if you did breed a rot resistant strain, why would you share it with the competition?
