The Official Hempy Bucket Thread

Hi man. If you're growing in just 2 litres then you're better off with regular plant pots. Hempy buckets are most effective when using 1 - 5 gallons (considering that 1gallon = 4.5liters aprox).

There are pics of hempy "buckets" in coke bottles. If you avoid all the cats lol and look closely at them stem bases, you will notice that there is some mouldy stem rot at the base of the plants.

Look in my gallery and you will see big plants grown in roughly 3l reg pots. They will piss on any 2 or 3litre "hempies" but saying that, it's your call.
...rotflmao, what a load of horseshit.

...if it isn't clear to you yet, your presence and your bullshit statements only serve to make you look the fool.

...and a closeup of a current stem, so you can point out exactly what moldy substance it is that only you can see.

...go away troll, there are real growers here who have no time for the likes of you.

You can use any size container you wish .
Keep in mind a very small pot is going to need watering more often and may restrict the roots as the plant matures .
If you use coco you can use a smaller volume of medium . Coco just seems to work that way compared to Ver / Per . Small pots with coco is a good way to save space with mother plants .

Hempy told me no need for bigger than 10 lt bucket .

Five gallons, that's huge!
And completely unnecessary.

I would never give credit to a snitch like Rez. "His" recipe is really nothing more than the K.I.S.S. method, ie., Maxibloom, which is really GH 3 part in one package.

Don't know anything about that. The Recipe is an effective way to get nutrients to plants using GH products. That is all.

Just harvested one of the plants I have in my current Hempy grow.
She is a White widow X Avalanche cross at about 86 days.
She was a big Medusa headed multiple cola monster. Had to tie her up to keep her branches from flopping onto the floor. Even then, some of the end buds on the colas got too heavy to support themselves and flopped over , almost breaking themselves off.
Here are a couple pics of her hanging after the initial trim. Right now she weighs about three lbs. on the stem, wet. Gonna be a good yield.
2 1/2 gallon office trash can containers, FloraNova Grow for the first few weeks, then primarily FloraNova Bloom with an occasional feeding of Maxi Bloom to the end.
She smells of lemon and pine. Primarily pine. I brought her home to trim her up and when Mrs. Ahab got home she immediately thought I had bought our Christmas tree for the season . The whole house smelled like a spruce tree.

Ooohh luvin it Captain A, big thumbs up from me dude. Hell yeah ;)

@bozo. Sorry but your bottle plants don't impress me at all. I still see the stems rotting at the base and I don't believe you when you say they're 2 zips each.

I much prefer your plants grown in 6l buckets...

You must have switched to buckets to increase your yield. For this I congratulate you. It seems that you've finally been following advice that growing in see-thru bottles is a waste of time

Harvested another last night.
This one is a Nirvana Bubblicious x Dutch Grown SweetestCindy99 cross at about 88 days.
She is about 3 1/2 tall with lots of rock hard golf ball nugs and nice fat colas.
Smells straight up orange bubble gum and is a very sticky/greasy plant.
All the plants Ive grown out of this cross have been very nice. Much nicer than either of the parent plants. Im happy to have quite a few more beans to play with.

Bucket size in relation to where to place the drain hole?

Bucket size in relation to where to place the drain hole?

I will be growing Hempy on my next grow.

I have a 36"x30"X6' cabinet and thinking of growing three plants, I have 4 gallon restaurant Mayo buckets.
They are 8.5"x8.5"x13" and I plan of using 3 to 3.5 gallon of the bucket, filling the bottom with straight Perlite to above the drain hole and the rest of the bucket with 75/25% Perlite/Vermiculite.

Now for the question, can I put the drain hole which will be .75 inch 2.5 to 3' off the bottom? I would like to get just a little more water/feed storage. I do plan on doing a 50% run off when I water/feed.

What do you think, I have read where folks have gone 2.5" but would really like to go with 3"?

GR :smokeit:

My first hempy grow I used smaller buckets with the drain hole a bit lower than 2 inches. It worked ok, but I thought I could get a larger res and used different buckets on my second run.

Second run I used 2.5 gal buckets with the hole drilled about 2.5 inches up. The res is larger and I don't have to water as often. Every other day at the most.

I've always run 100% perlite.

I don't think you'll run into any big issues with a 3" res hole, however it may be harder to flush out the crap in the res when you need to.

Give it a try and see what happens. You can always plug the hole with a rubber stopper and drill another hole lower.

For what it's worth I'm thinking of drilling another hole right at the bottom of the bucket that will always be plugged with a rubber stopper. I can then flood the buckets and pull the bottom plug when I flush.

Oh!! Also, make sure you rinse your perlite very well. The perlite I found locally was VERY dusty and required a really good wash/rinse. I neglected to rinse my perlite well during my first grow and wound up with a ton of buildup in the bottom of the buckets at harvest when I pulled the root balls. The roots that were in the bottom sitting in this muck were brown and slimy. I flushed quite a bit but still obviously didn't get rid of the buildup.

2 gallons is all you need. Plants will not grow any bigger in a 4 gallon bucket, especially in a small space. Also, if you can get coco, it is significantly better than Perlite. 2 gallon buckets, watered to run-off daily gave me my best results, after having used bigger buckets.

 If you buy the big bag of perlite just punch a hole or two in bottom corner and lean it up straight and put hose in top of bag, you will soon see when she's ready. dusty dangerous shit.:tiphat:

Thanks, I already have the 4 gallon buckets, got 50 of them with lids free from a sandwich shop a friend owns.
I also have 2.5 cubic feet of Perlite and Vermiculite.
Got to use what I got, and the reason I would like to have the hole at 3 inches is that I do have to go out of town on short one or two day trips. Little more reservoir to help.
I really like the idea that "seeingthings" brought up, putting a 2nd hole with stopper at the base of the bucket for flushing the system good, may incorporate that into the buckets.

Hey Retro, did want to say the size of these buckets are great, tops are 9.5x9.5", the bottoms are8.5 x 8.5" and they are 13" tall.

What I noticed from this grow, which I should harvest within the next few weeks, is I vegged one plant for way to long. The root ball is huge and I don't see the added plant for the time the plant vegged. I need at least 4 to 6 weeks veg, to create the Mainline grow method I use.

I do appreciate your input and it is not taken lightly, thank you!

Thanks man! Let me know how it works if you try it.

Really flushing a hempy bucket well (watching ppms on a meter) is a pain in the ass and time consuming. Especially times 5 or 6 plants. Took me over an hour to flush 5 yesterday...

Just wanted to post a pic of the new ladies in their starter Hempy pots.
I have them now under 2' 4bulb T5's/6500K. I hope to have them under the SS400 and in training for another Mainline grow on 1/1/2014.:greenstars:
