The Official Hempy Bucket Thread

I'm planning on growing with the Hempy method, including LSTing, SCROG, and I'm growing with a 200W LED 'Dirt Genius' grow light for veg and flowering with some LED and CFL supplemental lights. Here is a pic from Day 10 from seed of the Aurora Indica from Nirvana. I will be using General Hydroponics with the Lucas Formula system when they are strong enough to feed. Just water and a dash of superthrive for now..

I've read along threads that say these crystals are due to overwatering? But all I do is spray.. So idk any input?

And also just wondering if any EXPERIENCED Hempy Buckets growers can give a noob some advice?? I haven't really gotten any.
What size buckets did you use? 3-5 gallons?
What nutes did you use?
Lights?
Strain and how long did it take to Veg x Flower x Harvest?
Yield?
ANY feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers. :ying:

There is a search function in the thread, you should learn to use it.

If you click on thread tools, it is under that tab.

I've done coco hempys, 2 and 3 gallons.
I have used GH flora series and GO's full line.
Several lights ranging from 400w-1000w
Asking how long it takes to veg x flower x harvest is silly, that depends
on what YOU grow. You check the trichomes and harvest when the plant is
ready. You let it veg until it is the size that will fit your flowering chamber.
Yields also vary a lot from strain to strain, so us telling you our yields is pointless.
Also, you smell like bacon. Soooooooie!

 Thanks for the info, and I don't like swine, nor meat. Other than your wisdom from your growing experience, the rest was unnecessary and childish. But thanks again, def need to learn how to operate this site properly.

Personally, I didn't see anything 'childish' about his post. A LOT of people come in and ask these open ended questions that have no real answer and then get upset when someone steps on their toes.. read.. learn.. then do.. it's what most of us do.. the rest just want to have all the information hand delivered to them and then coddled until they achieve what they're after.. and we're all very impressed that you're a vegetarian..

This is a thread about a method for growing plants in a bucket with a hole in the side. Perspective.

could someone recommend the smallest pot for hempys until sex shows?...then I would transplant in the 5 gallon....

16 Oz, transparent solo cups until cup is filled with roots, then transplant to a 2 gallon bucket. 5 gallon bucket just a waste of coco, space and heavier pots, with no increase in yield. I get bigger yields in 2 gallon pots than in the 5 gallon pots I used to use, just by replenishing the rez daily, which provides new oxygen. No need for 5 gallon buckets with Hempys. Hempy doesn't use 5 gallon buckets. I have gotten almost one pound in 2 gallon buckets with two month veg. Of course, they will be smaller with a one month veg.

Is that a pound in one bucket or a pound in a few buckets? Would be nice to see harvest shots of that crop. Could do with some nice beefy hempy bud porn to look at :)

Finally did it.. after spending a long time reading thru this entire thread, I set up my first hempy pot.. I'm going to go forward with them for the rest of the year.. I do a perpetual which I'm just restarting after a devastating bug infestation.. hopefully I've beaten the borg.. I used a 2 gallon bucket with 2 inches of coarse perlite and the rest was filled with VandeZwaan (House and Garden)coco.. this is one of the nicest coco's I've used.. very nice consistency and did not require any pre-use flushing. The only thing different about my venture into this is the size of the plant that went into the bucket. It was a 14" tall fairly well developed clone. The composition of the 'soil' the clone was in was primarily coco anyway.. I think I'll be ok.. wish me luck!!

Hiya brother :tiphat:

There aint no point in using hempy cups for anything IME. The smallest size hb ideally should be roughly 1 gallon.

If sexing you're better off having the holes at the base of the cup or use any small regular plant pot, then xplant into the final hb.

I like hb's coz you can run small numbers and still yield large. We did this crop a while back, shark shock from mr nice seeds. Only 3 plants in 2gal coco hb's in this pic under a 400w hps:-

Wishing you the best of luck on your hb adventure brother :)

Hi, all!

Hi, all!

I have read the first 200 posts on this forum, and I would like to say greetings and thank you to all contributors. The vibe in this forum is awesome!
My question: I am going to grow one plant, using a hempy bucket (coco), under a 150w cfl. I will be planting a autoflower/feminzed Northern Light seed. What size container should I use?
Is a 2 gallon to large for an autoflower under 150w? If so, then what?
:thank you:

Hey Al, welcome to ICMag.. fun place.. I bet a 2 gallon would work just fine. I'm assuming you're talking about an actual 150 watt, not the 'equivalent' rating. Just be sure you've got good ventilation and you should be good to go..

Since this thread inspired me to run hempy buckets under my 1000w, I figure I should post up some pics of what I've got going. This is my first hempy bucket setup ever, although I have since setup 3 more, lol. This technique kicks ass!!!!

They are still currently in their second week of flowering, so that's all the pics I have for now. The hempy method absolutely kicks ass. It has FAR exceeded my expectations. I'm really trying to come up with reasons to ever setup a flood and drain table again! I've always loved flood and drain because of how easy it is, and how modular everything is, but THIS KICKS ASS SOO MUCH!!!!!!!
