The Official Hempy Bucket Thread

Oneshot. I started mine in Espoma organic seedling mix in Solo cups and placed them directly into the Hempy pots. I have no prior experience with the Hempy pots to determine the effects of having that cup full of dirt in there but it doesnt seem to be having a negative effect. Slightly digging into both the coco and perlite/vermiculite pots reveals massive root growth and the plants are happy.

That's the way to go. Start with a seedling mix like Light Warrior or Miracle Grow Seed Starter mix. They are mostly peat, and merge just fine with the coco.

Here they are tonight. Six days has made a huge difference. Most have been topped or FIM'ed . Ive managed to keep them squat and bushy and the main stalk seems disproportionally robust compared to their height. The three Bubblicious plants have started to throw flowers and it looks like one of the Bubblicious x SWTC99 plants is going to be a boy. They are ready to pop. A few more days to let the new tops develop and they will be going 12/12. Im still at 1/2 strength with the Floranova Bloom . They didnt seem to care for the full strength shot I gave them a while back.

And a question.
What causes this canoe leaf?
It is only one plant that is exhibiting this . One of the Vermont Rosebuds. None of the other plants are doing it. I was thinking heat stress but it is far enough from the light to eliminate that cause. It is the plant in the left front corner in the photo I posted above. The other VRB I have growing is next to it on the right. The two VRB plants do have a more heavy, rigid looking saw toothed leaf compared to the others.

I'm impressed by the size and the leaf on your plants Capt. Doing my first indoor grow and it's hempy buckets. Popped some bag seed just to try for a first run germinated in paper towels and then put in peat pods. They have been up for 3 days and now have the second set ofleaves. I've got them under cfl's ( 6 - 23 watt about 6" over them) to start and it seems like they are growing fast, bout 3" tall. When should I put them in them in the buckets and under my 1000 watt light. I've built a 4' x 8' x 7' grow tent and plan on running 18 - 3 gal buckets. When do top my babies? I want them to look like yours...:tiphat:

Seedlin I started mine under two sets of 4 foot fluorescent GE EcoLux F40 plant and aquarium bulbs. Nothing special, just regular shop light fixtures with the plant bulbs in them. I keep the light as close as possible to the plants. They are just about touching the bulbs when young. I dont raise the lights until the plants are actually touching the bulbs. Then the lights only get raised an inch or two and I let them grow into the light again. I didnt top them until they had at least four or five nodes and I also removed the first two sets of what I call sucker branches that sprout off the first two nodes towards the base of the plant. I put them in the Hempy pots when they started to look a little root bound in their solo cups at about 6-8 inches with 5-6 nodes. I would put your peat pots in the Hempy pots as soon as you see roots coming out of them.

The beans cracked on 01/17/12. So they are going on about 6 weeks.
Yes, I have a fairly strong Vornado fan blowing on them 24/7.

Ok now I have an idea of where I should be by when. This isn't rocket science but i think it does require a little expertice. This forum should be all I need cept a little good luck. I'll be happy when I can post pics. I don't personally know any growers down here, it's still frowned upon by the local popo. This is the deep south...:smokey:

Read this thread a year ago or more. Is the norm still using perlite for res and coco for the rest? Also what about using the KISS (maxibloom)? Sounded like that's what a lot of peeps were doing a while back. Gonna go get some supplys from the shop and was gonna use this method. Trying to make it as EZ as possible this run due to some bs this last couple of times. Any pointers are welcome and appreciated.

danski. I experimented when I filled my two coco Hempies. One has perlite on the bottom and one has dime sized Hydroton on the bottom. Im seeing no difference between the two thus far. Ive got no experience mixing coco with soil, however.

Painroad ...
I still use chunky perilite on the bottom of my coco hempys .... & yes a ton of people are using the KISS method of 1tsp of maxibloom per gallon . i'm using the REZipe of GH 6/9 micro & bloom with protekt & occasionally calmag .

danski .... i wouldn't use any soils in a hempy .... it retains too much water .

What size pots are you using?

How much calmag are you adding?

Are you feeding every time you water?

Can i put clones right into the 6/9 feeding schedule?

Thanks bro, sorry to be a pest

No problem bro ... thats how we learn ... by askin :)

I use 2 gallon paint pails from HD .

i add 2ml per gallon from seedling/clone to the day i put into flower then i give 1/4 tsp of epsom from then till finish . basicly your building the cations in the coco to the point where the coco has enough built up that the plant can use it whenever it needs . the epsom is added in flower cuz the plants need more magnesium during flower than than calcium .

Yes i feed every time ... no plain water till the flush .

How you feed your clones depends on your lights ....If your using low wattage lights like flouro's or low wattage HID . then start your clones at 1/4 to 1/2th strength feeds . if your using anything stronger than 400 watts then you can feed full strength .

these are my clones 2 days after i transplanted them .

they're still in veg .... they're about 11 or 12 days into veg right now under a 250 watt MH & i'm feeding full strength .

I still use perlite but I mix mine with hydroton and so far there has been not much difference with it or without. Coco should be next for me to learn with.

Thanks bro!!

A couple more questions if you don't mind?

Are you starting those clones in the small cups before moving them to the 2gal?

I heard of peeps saying to pot up if growing in coco?? Never tried coco before so should be fun i hope.

How often do you find yourself watering? Veg and Flower

Thanks again bro!!

Yes i do start my plants in 9oz clear cups for about a week to let the roots get beefy before i put them into the final buckets . but Hempy himself & quite a few others just drop a rooted clone right into the final 2 gallon bucket & let it veg in that . you just have to feed lightly every day till the roots hit the rez in the bottom then you can feed every 3 or 4th day . the only time i feed more than that is ... late flowering , then i water every other day cuz the plants will use up the nutes alot quicker then.

if your using coco in a DTW set up ... yeah its a good idea to up pot like soil . then the roots have a chance to get established in new coco . the rez on the bottom of a hempy changes things up abit from regular feeding . you can feed less often & the roots are always drinking from a feed source . less chance of salts build up with a rez cuz the salts can't crystilize unless they dry out . so keep the rez full & you won't have salts build up :)

You can use any "hydro nutes" with hempy buckets. Just follow Hempy's original instructions on the first page of this thread and you'll be fine.
cheers mate, only ask cuz i read some where that you shouldnt use organics in this method,it could rot your roots or course problems.
