@seedlin...I think your post count needs to be higher.
@megas...we are still testing the 15g containers....so I can't give you and exact weight, one or 2 yielded very well but one was quite weak. We're trying to tweak the veg time and the best medium mix right now so time will tell. It is a big jump from the op's method but we are trying new things in conjunction with proven methods and there are many fine tunings....not to metion quality genetics which play a big role.

So hempy vs. DWC? You'll have to do the same strain in the bucket and one in the hempy sometime for a comparison.

How do you guys add calcium and magnesium to you grows? I'm trying to figure this out with Lucas, I'm not finding nutes that add them both.

depends on yer water .... RO ... yes you need calmag . tap ... it depends on the EC ... low EC , you might need it , probably just some if a deficience shows . high ec ... probably won't need it all . might even be too much calmag & you'd have to cut the water 50/50 tap & RO . depends on yer water :)

Midnight ... straight perilite hempys ??? or just a layer on top ?

I apologize....a block of coco is usually 18g when expanded...so you would be able to get about 3 1/2 5g buckets worth. my math was terrible.

Wow thats a heck of a lot more than I thought.
What does pre-charging coco mean, and do you guys rinse your coco before use? Or what are your guys method of prepping the medium?
Thanks :tiphat:

Well it depends on the quality of coco you are getting. If you buy a good quality you shouldn't really have to rinse it for salt. I personally use BC coco coir which has been good to me, but I know someone using sunshine mix number 5, which is coco coir, perlite, and i believe peat and also has plenty of micro nutrients in the mix.
The sunshine mix comes loose so I have heard and already expanded pretty much..not too sure, never used it. but the coco I buy comes packed tightly in a 2x2 block if i had to guess. the size of it makes you think you need a lot more then you're getting. The second water hits it, it triples in size and becomes loose.

Pre-charging the coco is necessary because it is an inert substance and does not have any nutrients for the girls. Which is a good thing imo because the plant does not get anything unless you yourself give it. i find coco is more forgiving than soil also. but pre-charging is when you water down to coco with (i use 1/4 strength) a nutrient solution when expanding the coco. This just basically water-logs the coco with food for your babies.

This seems simple enough, thanks!

Uh what's a walmart cloner???
Not sure if we're talking about the same thing, but I got mine at walmart.....
ice-tubes-280x280.jpg

It is an ice cube tray meant for water bottles. When you buy it, there is that blue rubber cover on the bottom...you punch holes into the cover like drain holes. I pack mine with vermiculite and pop the clones in, making a small nail hole in the verm. Then i take the whole tray and sit it in a shoe box sized tupperware container. Fill the container so it covers about an inch of the ice cube tray, or cloner if you will. the verm. wicks up the water.

I have found as long as you change the water every other day or so there is no need for an air pump or stone or anything to bubble the water...it holds the oxygen at least that long.

water temp should be around 80 degrees F and the cuts should root within 3-9 days every time.

I did not invent this method, I was actually turned onto to it from a member here. There is a huge thread about it somewhere on here...im too lazy to link it, had a hard enough time figuring out how to post pics.

I would wash off all the dirt prior to transplanting, but that's just me. Be sure to spread the roots out real wellwhen you transplant them

Oneshot. I started mine in Espoma organic seedling mix in Solo cups and placed them directly into the Hempy pots. I have no prior experience with the Hempy pots to determine the effects of having that cup full of dirt in there but it doesnt seem to be having a negative effect. Slightly digging into both the coco and perlite/vermiculite pots reveals massive root growth and the plants are happy.
