The Official Hempy Bucket Thread

Would it be too much to ask for folks to post pics of their buckets and possibly pics with plants ready to harvest?

Would be great if you could also list:
Bucket size
Hole height
Medium used
Strain?

Don't you agree it would be nice to have a sticky with 'just' that information? Possibly put it in a section of the Link O' Rama? This thread is great... and it's difficult to pull just the details out of the general "WOW - GREAT!" postings. :D

hi everyone -

I'm on my first Hempy grow and its 2 weeks into 12/12. I vegged for 6 weeks from seed, unknown strains. The 3 plants are in 3 gallon buckets filled with perlite under a HPS 150, in a 2x3 room.

I'm using GH 3 part, and I'm only using 1 tsp each of nutes at this point and still that seems a tad much. Here's my question: would it be ok to keep using equal parts of nutes for the rest of the flowering?

Go 0/8/16 or 0/7/14 under that 150w Skip the grow... you don't need it. (edit: That's in ml/gallon. or CC's... you can get a syringe at drug stores, feed stores and medical supply outlets.)

Do a search for "Ask Lucas" on the net and read all the posts from Lucas in it. Give you a great understanding of why to use them in that ratio.

Your plants will LOVE you for it.... :jump:

pH to 5.8. :D

sweet - i'll try the lucas. I actually have dry MaxiBloom that i'm not using, so i'll either use the Micro and Bloom liquid or the dry maxibloom.

This place is the best!

@hydro-soil: I'll get some pics up of the containers we use (15gal) and the ladies just love 'em. I've been thinking about an earlier post of yours regarding the pvc pipes...I've got a few ideas and once they're touched up, I'll PM you.
@ghoggins: use the maxibloom...you'll be glad you did. It works just as well as the liquid lineup.
I just received my Jack's nutes today and will be doing a little side by side battle grow between the Jacks and the maxibloom. I've been so happy with the maxibloom, but if this can be done even cheaper than MB.....it'll be done.
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Wicking of perlite...
Now I've taken both the root shots of mine and SOG's as an example here. As you all can clearly see, SOG's roots are all over the coco (very nice roots too SOG if you don't mind me saying so mate). My roots are concentrated in the res area at the bottom. This indicates to me that Hempy, (who has decades of growing experience) was right when he says that perlite does NOT wick. Coco wicks but not perlite.

The reason why my roots are not as strong above the res area is because as the roots drink all the water in the res first, they then feed from the nute rich water which is trapped in the upper layers of the perl/verm mix. (Verm wicks, but not perl. Perl floats).

In SOG's case, the coco would be soaked in nute rich water causing the roots to suck the coco dry. And we can all clearly see that his beautiful roots are almost constantly all over the coco in his Hempy cup whereas my roots are more concentrated in the res area.

Now I'm not being argumentative here and I don't care of perlite wicks or not. It's just that the above examples tell me that perlite doesn't wick, of if so it's extremely poor as wicking. On the other hand, coco wicks great.

Hope the above examples clears things up to those who care about the wicking of perlite.

That is why you mix the perlite with some vermiculite, which definitely wicks. ;)

Also, one possible flaw with your comparison, is that it looks like your container was about twice as deep as SOG's, no?

Anyone interested in my work that wants actual FACTS should discuss it with ME and not some noob troll who is in the habit of stealing other peoples work and posting it on other forums and pawning it off as his own.

In point of fact, I don't clone in hempys as the failure rate is too high.

...instead I just use 9oz cups (note the HOLES, plural, at the bottom) filled with moist coco.

...in the future i'd suggest ignoring anyone discussing someone elses work, if no-one speaks to them, maybe they go away.

Verm wicks. Coco wicks better than verm. I don't think perl wicks though, but I do know perl floats.

You don't have to mix verm. Many (including myself) have used straight perlite with good results.

Well no. SOg has stated that he uses 9oz cups. My example was a 12oz cup. Not much bigger. If they were both the same sized cups cloned at the same time from the same mom, then the coco's roots would still be more aggressive than the perl (or perl/verm) roots due to the wicking of the coco, no?

My grow partners and I always clone in mini hempy cups with a 100% success rate as my previous post will show. This is the only deviation we do from Hempy's original method. Hempy would place the rooted (rockwool'd) clone directly in a 10L Hempy bucket.

I hope that we all can get along and discuss the plant without aggression for the sake of educating ourselves. This would benefit everyone in the canna community. (Not saying that Jellyfish is the one being aggressive here).
