Applesauce- It sounds like compost to me too! To be on the safe side, I'd get ahold of some worms and have them work it for a bit.

BJW- I was curious about whether or not you had a veg room because I don't see how I'd move the 30gal smarties, and even if I could (platforms on casters) I would only have enough veg space for only 1 out of 2 flowering rooms. I typically run my flower rooms like you do 12 hrs a day 365, constantly pushing things through immediately after the chop.

I don't know about you guys, but every so often I put together a tea that really stands out as far as the plants response. Here's what they got the other day:

1/4 cup Kelp meal +3tsp BioAg's TM7 per 5 gal (water + Protekt) bubbled for 24hrs.

To that I added 2oz aloe Vera and 1 cup barley sprout tea per gal.

Garden just went nuts for it! Freshly rooted cuts all the way to full flowering, everything got it.

Might just have to mix this cocktail up! Got some sprout tea on deck.

Bill got that one right didnt he!

Just saw on a popular online organic gardening store, you get three little prepacked sachets of alfalfa for $12

'Steep in a 5 gal bucket of water for one to three days and water with this - for roses only LOL.

I have the same recipe going minus the Protekt. Should I wait to add the silica when I add the aloe and sprout tea. Seems like a good little combo anyhow :)

That's how I always did the Protekt, I just very recently switched to adding it to my res.

how much protekt would I add to water if I was going to do a 5 gallon batch? is there a rule of thumb when mixing it to different application methods (soak / foilars) ?

I am using 1 cap full per gallon. 4 in my mix per 5 gallon bucket.

20 gallon mix
1 handful Alfalfa pellets
1 cup North American Kelp meal
4 TSP Yucca

aerate for 36 hours and then add per bucket 4 caps Protek and 1 TBS SP90 and 1 large TSP Aloe Vera powder

Water in.

I would just follow the recommended dosage at 1/4-1/2 teaspoon per gal. So five gallons I'd go with 2.5 teaspoons for soil drench anyway. I think I remember reading that cootz used more than that, but I'm not sure on that.

I didn't see vons post, I would just follow those directions he posted.

5ml per gallon all day every day, but I just switched to 3ml per gal just because.

Applesauce, sounds a bit like passive style of composting to me. worms would probably go ape shit all over it.

Here's a Q for the crew to ponder with me... How do I talk my local feed store owner into buying/carrying/retailing for me, items like kelp meal, rock dust, neem meal, sul-po-mag...

I want to make it so he will be able to sell to other folks, folks who raise livestock and what not. I know cootz talks about how the bulk of a lot of our amendments are used for livestock food. Kelp being one of them.

But, when I asked him for kelp meal he gave me a bucket of horse mineral supplement that had kelp in it... but, it was like $28 for a 1 gallon bucket.

So, I said no, I needed the raw kelp meal... he asked why and I told him for organic gardening... his face got all Jane Velez Mitchell on me and he asked... "you know what pisses me off about 'organics'?" I was like, hmmm no...

then he tells me about the farm he was raised on where they didn't buy anything but salt, pepper, sugar, and flour and If it wasn't on the farm... they didn't eat it. and everything was fed by everything and it was as natural as you could get. then, He was telling me that even if you buy 100% organic crops, and your buddy, a mile away doesn't... his pollen can drift into your plot and there goes your 100% pure organic food!

I was like, OK well, I don't have a farm... and I need kelp meal.

I know he can order 50# bags of the stuff... and even if I have to pay $2 a lb it's way better than $5 a lb for maxi-crop Algamin that I can get through the lawn and garden lady at Ace. $100 for 50# is better than $100 for 20# ... that's like 150% better.

but, it was early and I didn't want to piss off cranky pants too much. so I decided to leave it alone, regroup, and come back later...

any suggestions on how I can approach him later?

MrSterling

Just push on and get him to order what you need. Money *should* talk louder than this guy's need to be a blowhard but I've seen rural store owners willing to lose a sale rather than not have their say on some matter like that. My attempt at getting straight kelp from my feed store failed as well last year. Waited months and it never arrived and it turned out the owner had forgotten to put the order in.

@Coba I called my local feed store looking for kelp and they kind of was surprised but none the less $$ talks. I asked how much for a #50 and they said special order 75 bucks. They didn't ask me what for at least. I'd give them a call back or check someplace else. Hope you get what you need.
