Oh and just a suggestion, We should try to summarize some main key points of the old thread so newcomers don't have to read 200+ pages to get maybe 10-15 pages worth of info.

I know it takes a longggg time to go through that thread, trust me but it would be sweet to have a little summary... or even a glossary, just what topics are covered on which pages. Just a thought...

If I get some free time, I'll begin taking notes and organizing. maybe we could all work on sections then combine our work?

could you enlighten us with what the minimum requirement is? I have always wondered this...

I love organics but due to space and my situation, I can't grow monster plants... Am I wasting my time trying to grow organic? I can say I grew this bud in small starbucks cup, I believe it is 16-20 oz, using my organic soil mix and no chems added besides pro-tekt to the water.

i would have to say organics works even on the small scale.

I have no doubt that it would work even better on a larger scale...

This plant as I said was in organic soil, watered and given teas, part time was grown under 110w of PL-L with CFLs supplementing and finished out under a 150w HPS with CFLs supplementing...

I can say I fucked up though and got it seeded by a male I kept in the flower chamber for too long... and it was late in flower so the seeds aren't even viable! fuck it...

I am using a space of 3.75 sqft using 6.5 and 5.8 ltr pots. they seem to be working well but to really usilise my space I want to go back to my old ways of growing and doing SOG I'm looking into some 1.4 ltr pots that are 10cmx 10cm x 17cm and I can fit 28 per level. once I have a good mother plant thats what I will be doing will be good to see if it will work out

Right on man, nice to know that you are in a similar situation. My current plants flowering, one is in a 2 gallon smart pot, but, I have heard they are not really two gallons, anyway the other 3 are in these pots. My space is slightly larger than yours. My plants have left some room so I have a few clones in these pots, they come in different sizes I have the 3x3x8 and 4x4x9.5. you should check out these they sound similar to the pots you are talking about...

I think my HOL Test plants are going to be flowered in either the 3x3x8 or MAYBE the 4x4x9.5s... I dont think I could fit all of them in my other pots, the plants seem to get too big. I think the dimensions they give on the square pots are way off I just measured and its about like 5x5x6 not 4x4x4 lol. Idk but I think I like the mini tree pots better. I'll let you know how they do. Im gonna take some pics of my plants in flower tomorrow and post em.

..... still have problem with wiggly worms and nasty smelling brews because of tight indoor spaces and i'm kinda looking to get around them.

im in a similar boat, especially with the teas/brews which just wouldnt be wise or practical in my situation.

im managing to use re-amended recycled soil quite successfully in a mostly 'water only' mix - just using very basic liquid ferts from time to time.

There needs to be a certain volume of soil to constitute a ´Living Soil` and it should be undisturbed for the most part. You have a small space so growing a Mono crop with less but larger plants would get you to the ROLS level. I would take one tent with a 2 30 gallon containers and rotate them 4 weeks apart in flowering. You could run 2 types in there. When done just cut and transplant new ones in their place. You would have bud every 4 to 5 weeks strain dependent.

And VG is a perfect example of what I just explained to you Soursmoker

I might just make a pot out of wood and fabric or something to the dimensions of my wardrobe, then just spce the clones out in the bed, just need to find a decent mother plant first, running reg seeds wont work well at all

Haha true, so basically its not TRUE ROLS until your best the 10-15gal mark?

How come it still works on a much smaller scale for me though? Not argueing here, just curious... I like to learn about this stuff. I feel as though you're soil can living on a small scale like mine, but there is much more to actually be "ALIVE" on the bigger scale like you guys, thus, much better results. Just my opinion...

I could be mistaken but I think I have seen Gascanastan using 5gal buckets before., would this still count as ROLS?

That's a great idea! Throw a rubbermaid container or huge smart pot, whatever and throw a whole bunch of clones in their so it is still a SOG of sorts but also accomplishes this ROLS we are trying to achieve. This is sure to come in my future, might take a while though.

5 gallons works fine. I am running 5 gallon homer buckets now. I am planning of switching to 7 gallon smart post once I have my selections made but I tend to grow multiple strains and have a 9x11 bedroom to work with with a full basement to work with my soil.

I ended up with 2 strains and have 10 females under 2 1k lights so I am going bigger (LST) in 5 gallon buckets.

Ok because I as well suffer from the problem of growing multiple strains, and I am still working on making selections for keeper, mother plants as well. So slightly smaller containers would be the better option for me currently... Although the idea of throwing a 30 gal tote in a tent and loading it up with a shit load of clones sounds awesome, but it will have to wait.

Sorry if I am being redundant but basically we dont wanna go under 5 gal for ROLS? Lol I'm really just trying to find out the bare minimum volume of soil that should be used for ROLS.

I totally understand that the larger my containers, the better the results I will get. I just am not in a position to do that at the moment but it has definitely been taken into consideration for the future.

my pots are 4-5 gallons apiece, and have 4 under a 250 (or LED equivalent). sometimes i use 2 trough planters that are more like 8-10 gallons. both ways seem to work fine. my advice is to use pots as big as you can fit into your growing space (if you are growing in small space).

recently ive been using 2 gallon pots becuase ive need to have more plants, again they worked fine but with soil your yield is very much proportional to your soil volume.

Personally I would call 5 gallons the minimum but I think MM said you could go around 3 to 4 but don´t quote me on that.

I ran clones and seed plants in 50 gallon containers last year.

here is a shot of part of my room with 4 50 gallon totes in it.

here is a shot of 120 liters in Germany when I was there. I had 6 cuts in these

thats not to take anything away from teas and huge pots, no-till beds etc - some peeps are absolutely rocking it with those methods.

just good to know that you can still do organic recycled soil in a simpler system too.

oh yes, fantastic results. i'm in a queue to rent a garden patch so hopely some day i can apply these methods for veggie gardening. for indoors i'm a kinda lazy.

i always wonder what's the explanation for the critical mass of living soil, quess it's has to do something with proper ecosystem but details of it. and yeah bigger is better until it gets too deep and no oxygen is available?
