Side note for the ROLS folks who like to grow big plants...
I am finding 3 gallons smarties to be inefficient when growing big ones. I came home last last night to my 3 gallons all slumped over from lack of water. I water daily with mulch but just can't hold enough water to last over 1 day.. (I hand water) Going to have to have more volume/ Will be moving to 5 gallons for my recycled... Maybe 7.....

With my no till and the huge volumes containers they can be water every other day when huge...

My lady went from a 5 gal smartpot to a 10 gal the other day and we're both digging it. Lots of room for mulching (living or 'dead') and a lot less watering. Smartpots and velcro make training so easy as well.

Neo420 What are big plants in your opinion? I like growing bigger plants but use 5 gallon smart pots just curious on how many inches your plants are when you flip them?

defo a 'bigger is better' proposition

3 gal seems like the minimum size for ROLS and that is applying it as a 'micro-gro' strategy

IOW its a compromise and really 5 gal is probably a more realistic min

I veg indica's and hybrids till they are at least 4 feet. They end up around the 5 or 6 feet. I notice they never "triple" in size when large... I would grow em larger but my lights go no higher...

Sativa's I have to watch cause they can literately explode in growth....

Hey Neo, Are you rolling plants in and out of your flower room every couple months or do you veg for a bit in your flower room? Basically are ya croppin every 60 days or so?

If I grow them BIG I yield alot more per light. But I'm not getting a crop out ever 60 days or so.

I don't buy into the whole gram per watt shit. Or whatever. In my mind the only thing that really matters is how much cannabis is produced at the end of the year. I can't figure out which system is gonna give me the best number at the end of the year.

Rancho, if you're so inclined you could create a metric (grams per watt per day) that incorporates time.

You'd have to spend a year (or at least half a year probably) on each configuration you wanted to measure, but it should give you decent numbers if other things stay equal.

Or you could just do one run with each setup, calculate grams/watt and then pro-rate that over a year's time.

I just go by dollars per gram x yearly. Other than that I don´t give a shit.

I have no fucking clue, there's so many at so many different stages, sometimes 16 plants under one light are each a different strain :/

I limited myself to 2 strains this time. lol Last time I had 17. I do usually run a perpetual harvest for every 4 weeks. I also grow the plants big in 5 gallon buckets and will soon switch to 7 gallon smarties. I get more bud per plant when they are big. I like to veg for 1 to 2 months on most strains and allow the root structure to get as large as possible.

I had over 30 at one point...and lost the best Kali Mist cut I've seen because of it. Lesson learned....8 seems more manageable. The most success (as far as profit and yield) I ever had came from running 1 type only.

I am going down to one but must run some seeds to see which one I want. I have my eye on 3 right now. I also have a mutant Chimera plant in the group that self prunes itself. lol I have cuts off that one with 3 leads in one branch. It self pruned the main stem. All the flag leaves grew together and it now has 2 leads like it was pruned but it vegs slow. The main stem is huge on it. I am hoping for a good yield as I have her picked for outdoor this year as she will keep low to the ground unmanaged.

I have a local favorite.......Skunkberry from Peak seeds in the batters box now. Big yielder and does well outdoor also. I will rotate her in in about 4 weeks as these I have are short flowering indicas.

I have-just this last grow-gone up in size containers.
one thing that i actually seem to notice consistantly is around a half ounce per gallon of medium. if root development is key to yield, i really want lots of roots, why we are going for 200gal outdoor for permanent no till beds(to bee used this season for cannabis)
wish i could report it was more
word, von

I am stopping indoor until the fall, due to plant count, and greenhouse should yield niicely, i hope

lbs per yr is what i go by...that is my metric.

if you know how much extra veg time you need to "grow them big" and the yield of a single crop...and you know the same thing for growing them quicker you can calculate how many lbs you would get each way.

For me, adding more plants to match the yield of growing them big combined with the quicker inventory turns is the ticket. For example if 30 plants allows me to match the yield (or come close) to what 15 plants with an extra 3 wks of veg in the flower room...that works out to more pounds per yr for me. Laws will influence what you can do of course.

I have separate flower/veg/clones area's. I am harvesting every 2 months (except for my sat's. At the moment they are all 12 to 14 weekers...) So I veg around 1.5 to 2 months.. The same day I cut down others fill the spot...

To be truthful I don't either. I rotate what strains I flower so my average differs every time...

Question for everyone when do most people FF? When the lights are about to go off or when they are about to come on?

D

Durdy

It's ideal to spray right as the lights go off.

1) Spraying with lights on can burn your plants with certain foliars

2) Many of the foliars advocated in this thread are made of volatile compounds that degrade faster when exposed to lighting versus darkness.

3)It's generally cooler in bloom rooms at lights off, the foliar will stay on the leaves longer, allowing more of the goodness to be absorbed by the plant.
