Whatever works for you. There is no right or wrong here. You have to admit that if any of you are claiming to be organic look at your light. Does it matter if it comes from coal or nuclear or solar? I guess the planet would prefer solar. These are just preferences. I use Miracle grow moisture control that has coco and time release ferts. If you can demonstrate that a tomato grown with "inorganic" ferts is different then ok. I don't want pesticides or poison on my herb but if it is ok to eat it is no worse to smoke.
Take vitamins for people. Yes you should eat natural foods and get sunlight but when they fortify foods with vitamins they don't claim it is inorganic. Flouride in water the same thing although I believe some water naturally contains flouride.

Well your right... its not totally identical but..... its damn near close. The FF rep that we deal with at the hydro store said that its really only lacking perlite. But it dont matter anyways BUDDY... im not here to argue what soil to use just give advise from my own experiance.

just picked up my c25 from home depot, and started putting it together. still having trouble decding the type of light (design wise) would be best for my cab. i want to go 400 hps, but there are so many different varieties. any suggestions on which would work best? i plan on adding a couple of dark louvers and a 6" fan. thanks

question

I'm thinking about putting two C25's together to make one large cabinet.

Would a 400w bulb and 6" vortex still be sufficient for this setup?

i have a 400 watt in a single c24 (smaller than c25) so id go with a 600w. that fan should be fine.

erratic_eddie - what do you mean by different varieties of 400 watters? All 400's have a ballast and a socket set. The reflector is where you get into choices.

First choice is reflector type - vertical or horizontal - in a cabinet you'll be going horizontal - vertical parabolic reflectors are best for large areas.

So then air cooled hoods are probably the best option for growing in a cabinet, however I'm doing alright with the cheapo batwing reflector. I did have to cut it with a hax saw to make it fit inside the cabinet in the orientation I wanted. If you're shopping online stay away from the refurbished $99 crap 400 watters insidesun sells - htgsupply sells a complete 400 for only $20 more ($119) that is all brand new and their customer service is excellent.

And so you know the socket set is generally a universal component that will allow you to change hoods later. So for me I bought the $119 setup and I am using it with the batwing reflector that came with it. However at a later time I can always buy an air cooled hood and it will work perfectly with the same socket and ballast that I use now. My point being that you can always upgrade the hood if you get the standard socket.

Lastly I will mention that some of the hoods are bigger then others and that will be a pain in a small cabinet. So if you bought say the daystar AC hood which is 22" long without the ducting you will be pretty limited in how you can use it inside a cabinet that is only 30" wide x 20" deep.

so here's some bud shots from my millspride cabinet - my own cross of oregon90 x burmese pure plus a few other plants...

So I heard that home depot is no longer carrying the millspride cabinets - anyone else hear this?

Are you sure thats not just a local thing? i didnt hear about that. ill go to the home depot and check it out.

are you insinuating that they stopped carrying the cabs because of pot growers modding them? that would be cool!

I don't know - I was in a homedepot last night and I didn't see any. It's kinda a small one so I may check a few others.

It would be a shame if they stopped carrying these cabinets. :(

Hey MP club. Im searching for a door handle for my cab that has a hidden lock on it, like something slides aways to reveal the key hole. Has anyone seen something like this?

hey suga

yes, i was referring to the reflector. in an air cooled system, the ones ive been looking at were 25" long, this wouldnt leave me much room for ducting in the c25. i would prefer to go batwing with no ducting, but from talking to a couple of people, they say i may run into heat problems. if i have a 6" fan and 400 watt batwing, do you think i could get by without ducting?

Home Depot recently changed out to ClosetMaid. I missed my chance at getting one locally but anyone considering a C24 or any other Mills Pride product should check their local store ASAP!

source, check out tot-loks. they help keep mine shut very well. if you yank really hard they can break, but i doubt anyone would do that unless you told them theres plants in there.

id like something like youre talking about. a heavy duty lock that isnt visible.

I dont need really heavy duty, I just want the key hole hidden so it looks normal and no one would ask why its locked. Ill check those locks, thanks

erratic_eddie - What brand 6" are you looking at? I would suggest going with a 4" vortex, and an air cooled hood and forgetting about a 6". Guaranteed you wont get much more than a couple degrees over ambient that way, at least I don't. I'm useing the HTG 400w and aircooled hood combo ($175ish). The cheaper of the two, the more expensive one's hood was a little too big for a C-25.

Here are a couple shots of what my setup is doing for me right now, I think its doing ok. These pics are about 5 days old...

i was thinking of going with the vortex http://www.mdhydro.com/elinfan.html

i saw your setup in your gallery. where did you get your light from? also, im sort of a newbie at this, but with your setup, do you adjust the height of your light and move it up as the grow moves on? if so, how does that affect your ducting? can you push the ducting in as you move your light up? sorry if it sounds stupid, but like i said im new at this stuff. thanks for your help.

northcoastmed thanks for confirming the bad news - glad I bought my c-25 when I did. It's a sad day for the millspride club when we can no longer purchase them at the depot :badday:

erratic_eddie

my cabinet does ok with 265cfm dayton blower and the batwing in there like this.

temps max at 72-73 with lights on at plant level and 78-79 degrees on the top shelf

I'm thinking of cutting out the shelf and putting the ballast outside the box to give myself more room, but I think the shelf is structurally necessary, right? do you guys that take out the shelf add other supports?

-suga

edit: p.s. nice growing nomoreschwag! awesome buds on that ak48

erratic_eddie - Thats where I ordered my vortex from a couple years ago. If memory serves me right it came nice and fast in a plain brown box. Vortex might cost a little more than dayton's etc, but I think they are well worth it. 10 yr. warranty too...
My light is the cheap air cooled 400w from www.htgsupply.com
As for the ducting...I grow perpetual with clones (occasional seed plant here and there, always looking for that new mother) I try to keep 8 plants in rotation (normally ends up being more like 6), harvest two plants every 2-3 weeks, add two clones around harvest... My light really never moves, I just set the youngest plants on something to get them even canopy. After the initial 2-3 week stretch they pretty much top out and I'm back to an even canopy. It's hung with chains and all of it moves up or down quick and easy if needed.

Suga - Thanks for the props man. Much :respect: to ya. You've gota nice lookin grow yourself. I took my shelf out and added some L brackets at the top and bottom just in case. I didn't do plywood on the back like alot of people, which I'm sure would make it more solid too.

Sugabear definately find a way to support it.
I have had my one cab for many years now and i have the top shelf in and after adding another cab to it, I find the older one was getting wobbly.
In that pic how come the plants are not so close to the light?
Xtbudda...
