The Haze discussion thread

The Haze Whisperer
I've decided to start a new thread. It's a subject close to the hearts of many growers/breeders. It's something we need to take action on, BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. We need to put aside our prejudices and ego's in this quest. It's all about the end result.

I'll give you my understanding of how to work with this variety.

As I said before, I got a total of 7 plants from the original seed stock. They were all different. The Original female (the one that I didn't keep a clone of) and Haze male A, may have been siblings, but just as likely not. Yet there was a common Haze like thread among all of them. This tells me that there was likely no pure haze among them. Haze did not improve when put back to itself as I was told and later discovered. People who think that B.C. is the hope for the future ( if it can be resurrected) are likely to be disappointed. A NL5xHzA would be the best mate for it to test this out. Haze males A+C were at best half brothers, but certainly shared a common ancestor, so my guess is that the inbreeding co-efficient to the haze ancestor in Nevil's Haze is at most 37.5%.
So if we want to go back to a Haze hybrid, we are looking for one not directly related to A or C. So don't talk to me about S.S.H. or Jack Herrer or Diesel or Sage (all the same plant). Double up HzC! I'm not saying that excellent plants can't be produced from inbreeding what we have, but we are going for the Ultimate (Grail). If anybody pinches this name I'll be pissed off.
This should start the ball rolling, I'll continue later.

N.

Northern Lights 5 crossed with Haze male C.Is the best Indica / Sativa hybrid that I've ever done. HzA male to NL5 was also excellent and was the mother of N.H. The HzC was a complex sweet aroma, while HzA produced plants with a leathery smell, more reminisent of the old Thai's.
Complex liver/ leather smell is what I'm looking for in a good Thai descenant to cross with the Haze.

came out really really good..just some lower bits...smells like in between old ssh and silver haze....with a bit of a fuely diesely edge..strong penetrating aroma of the fresh bud pierces the air....long lasting potent clear high and you dont need alot....but seems to always have a weird effect on my eyes...as if your losing control of them.

That's a nice looking bud, dark storm.

Male sativas are a pain in the ass to keep. You have to take cuts and clone them every couple months, and in my limited experience they can autoflower when rootbound. That's why I don't keep mail clones anymore, generally, but I collect, desiccate, and freeze pollen.

Based on what I've read here, I suspect that the Haze A male clone / father plant was put into a 12/12 light cycle, where it bore staminate FLOWERS, produced pollen, and was not able to be reveged.

I find OH males very easy to keep. On mine I have seen only one preflower in 5 years, while being kept in coffee cups and party cups under 24/24 to keep them small. Most of the time I simply cut the rootball in two, instead of taking cuts. Works fine and is very care free.

Star Crash,

Do you think that OHaze would be shorter for a tent by pinching to make more main colas?

yes! ..she a jungle beast & the lateral growth can explode like an octopus if you let her .. so be prudent if you have limited space

All we smoked in the 70s 80s and into the 90s here Star then came the Dutch hybrids then you had to grow it your self if you wanted sativas most of us older smokers were spoilt.

I like the look of that plant i found a Nevil's haze with that look it all comes down to what you as a grower likes and i think with a nice male and lots seed to search threw odds are you will find even better mate it all comes down to good genetics and the roll of the dice.

That is a spectacular plant, Harvestreaper, congrats on a beautiful haze specimen! It's good to know there's plants like that to be found amongst the OH seeds that Todd sells. There's a good thread on another forum on the topic of fenotrigo, which is a name for that bud structure. Fenotrigo bud structure is very high on my list of selection criteria, if not at the outright top. I found an 18-week haze plant in some MNS Angel's Breathe F2s I had made, and it's the best plant I've found so far. Trippy 4-hour high, church aroma that lingered in the air, and a dry toke on a freshly rolled joint tasted exactly like a lemon drop. I still have clones after three years, which is remarkable for me, but I've never been able to grow it as well. It had the fenotrigo bud structure, AND it yielded massively in one huge gallon-jug-sized cola...143 grams of dried bud out of a 4-gal hempy bucket with six other plants in a 4x4 under 600W of COBs.

I have taken ojd up on his generous offer to run some of his outback haze x NH21/MML crosses, and I understand the outback haze throws fenotrigo phenos pretty often, so those babies will hit water immediately upon arrival.
