this is plain and simple all you need to know
Tricky .

aaah no:biggrin:
#1- You do not need coco specific nutes to get the best results and ease of use. Read threads in this forum to see all the nute brands that work GREAT.

#2- You DO NOT need runoff and certainly not 40% runoff which is a massive waste of nutes. No runoff in coco works just as great as runoff. Check the grows on this forum with no runoff.

#3 Hand watering sucks:tiphat:

lol - all opinions are welcome. this method i use works tremendously well and at the same time avoids nutrient and salt build up that can end up messing with the end results..

1 - the guide is thought as a fail proof beginners guide, and of course a LOT of nutes work well in coco... the most important factor is to know the nutrient needs of the crop you are growing, when that is under control, any nutrient can almost be used with great success..

2 - it is always beneficial to use a good amount of run-off. the amount depends on the size of the container - when hand watering one tends to use bigger pots than in most hydro setups.. bigger pots need more run-off to flush out properly. in the end it IS possible to grow without run-off - but the SALT build up MIGHT affect the final quality and flavour of the nugs...

3 - hand watering works well, but if you are too lazy to do it by hand, im sure you will find enough threads on this site to satisfy your needs. here again - this is my hand watering guide - if you dont like hand watering, why are you even here?!

peace all

No, I'm just not into taking and posting many photos. I may someday. I posted some bud shots in a couple threads. I don't get the " You have to post photos or you have no cred" mentality of some people on here. Whatever, I guess it makes it easier to discredit an opinion you disagree with.

Watering in small cuttings

Watering in small cuttings

Hi there, im doing my first ever coco grow and I've ran into a problem.
I have 10 northern lights cuttings rooted through in jiffy pellets. I transplanted them into small pot of canna coco and they grew good and fast, once rooted through I transplanted into a 1 litre pot. I gave them all a good water until run through then I watered them through again about 2 days after, a week later there are no roots throughout the pot. I think I've over watered . does anyone have any ideas advice
Many thanks,
Murran

Hi Murran,
Without any nutrition in the coco you can treat it a bit more like soil, allowing the coco to just about dry out between waterings. I find that kelp supplements like General Organics BioWeed and rooting supplements like General Hydroponics RapidStart have a great impact on early root development, especially post transplant.

I suggest that you hold off on watering again until your containers are much lighter, nearly dry. Probably 4-5 days from the last watering. They will recover, it just takes some time to establish themselves.

Hey Murran, I've been hand watering in coco for a couple of years now and there is one piece of advice that I got early on and it is that if you water coco like soil you will for sure get soil results. IMO you don't ever want to let the coco dry out much better to keep it at least moist. One of the great things about the medium is that it is really hard to over water it. Pay attention to Bonecarver OG for he knows from whence he speaks especially for a new grower the formula is really very simple 1. Use coco specific neuts (I use the Botanicare CNS17 Grow/Bloom/Ripe with great success) 2. Water to 20% runoff to ensure that you have fresh neuts 3. Whatever you choose to do be consistent and all will be well. And finally your environment is way more important than which neut you use!

BoneCar Howzit? 1-What's your opinion if any on bushdoctor coco? Would you treat it like coco or more like a soil?

2-watering should it be treated same as coco? I've done plenty of reading and nobody is using it. If they are they aren't saying much.

3- should one use coco specific nutes? I have a couple different types. Age old nutes, veg+bloom and I was thinking canna nutes as you suggested.

Thanks brother

i only use CANNA coco nowadays, sorry bro. when i googled bushdoctor coco i only found a product called coco loco and it seems to be a potting mix. i would buy a normal coco instead of that...

Right on brother. Thanks for the reply, I think I've figured out by lots of reading which way I'm going with coco and nutes. Thanks again peace and puffs

Hi all . Why aren't my 11 l pots getting lighter between watering ? Can go 3-4 days between watering , but no really diff. on the weight . Leaves got a ragged edge , but still praying . EC in is 1.0 .

indalo. You really don't give enough info. How big are your plants? What size light? In veg or bloom? Amount of water? How cold is it when the lights off?

I can gauge the 'weight' simply by giving the pots a nudge.

Hi guys.... Im have this setup.
Veg 14days
24-28C / 70-85 RH% allthe time
600W HPS
When I water my pots (6.5L) Its every time issue If I water to saturate. with 30% runoff maybe more.
First time if I water to runoff, my tips burn + dark leafs...
Second time its today after wet/dry circle for roots problem comes.
My plant looks like underfert.
Roots are good I think.
Whats wrong... My runoff EC is 2.2
I soak 1.0 EC coco bricks... Then water with 1.3EC = 2.5EC runoff
Now I feed with 1.0EC again with plenty runoff (1.8 EC)... and after 12hours plant is shocked and yellowish.
I cant do slurry test I dont have destiled water.
She is under hot spot. (hps) but great RH and temp!
Btw Sry for my english.

There is maybe no problem but ...
Why they are socked every time if I water them.

Treating coco like soil is fking stupid. It needs to be watered through/slight runoff once a day to achieve hydro results. Use synthetic nutrients. If you're going to use organic, just go with soil. I still cannot believe the amount of marketing that goes into making people believe anything about organic is quality, and not environment sustainability.

Pretty much all complete "synthetic" lines have organic vitamins and synthetic minerals that are much more available for quicker growth. I also hope people understand that synthetic things occur naturally.

This is my 1st coco grow after growing over 25 yrs organically. I got a ton of advice from my bros already growing in it and it's been easy pezzy so far. I'm using Veg+Bloom HD and Golden Tree, putting my 1st coco plant into the flower room this weekend so wish me luck!

I've noticed better overall health and growth watering everyday vs watering every other day or two.
