No. Its Meltatox. Thanks, Norkali for the name and some background. I'm going to do some more research. Maybe just hit the AfPak with Kaligreen and run her in a black box.... but that's just it... the heat and humidity in the black box at night is not the best environment for preventing PM. quite the opposite.

Just wanted to say this thread is amazing, so much useful knowledge and positivity. It has inspired me to finally contribute to this site after a year of lurking, and also made an indoor grower want to move outdoors as soon as possible. Thank you to all!

:yeahthats I agree and second every single word he just said...including the part about jonesing to get the hell out of the indoor plant matrix I have been running for years and let the girls grow like they are supposed to.

I'm also skeptical on PM being systemic. I have a chem 91 cut that had PM really bad, but when moved to a clean house and treated with a product similar to Greencure (potassium bicarbonate) I haven't had a speck of powder. I think the right environment and a healthy plant is all it takes to get rid of it.

I also have had this happen with a group of strains I inherited a few years back. They were good genetics, just kept at the wrong place wrong person, etc. I got it cleared up with greencure, H202, and Zero tolerance. I just attacked the young plants (they were damn near dead in 1 gallon pots) by dunking in sequence with one of the three daily with a rinse day in between for about 10 days. Ran them for years, still have a two of the 8 strains with never another problem. They also never entered the main garden until taken care of so I never got the spores in there.

This thread is like crack to me...I check it like a lonely guy checks his match.com account. Thanks to all the big dogs who keep serving up the inspiration. Tom, you are a 4 star general in the war, thank you and to all your amazing outdoor colleagues.

I already had spores in my garden before AfPak came along... they have been here, living on the sweet pea and a couple of other things since prehistoric times. From what I understand, PM spores are everywhere.

Soil of champions AKA TOM mix

with my alterations:

6 bags of premium potting mix
1 bag of premium chicken manure
1/4 bag of per-lite
1/4 bag bonmeal steamed not precipitated
1/8 bag if gypsum
1 tub slow release ferts

Mix and Water in well, leave for 3 weeks min (prob will leave for about 5 - 6 weeks)

just wondering if these 1/4 break down of your mix will work just as well and how big a hole you think it will fill TOM, also im wanting it for a guerrilla grow so im wondering your thoughts on the capabilities of this soil mix with just plain water being used until flowering time where ill be using a fish emulsion. thannx would love your feed back TOM but others feed back is also welcome. I grew a sativa plant last year that would of easily hit a half to a pound to a pound last year on the following mix and am thinking with the mix with the alterations i have proposed should be able to hit at least 2 pounds :)

1 and half bag premium potting mix
6 hand fulls of slow release ferts
3 hands full of bonemeal

let me know :D

first pics are of the plant i was talking about the rest are what is possible in 50ltr pots of coco :)

TOM doesn't know anything about 50l pots of coco. Let me tell you that straight-off the barrell.

Second, how much is a tub?

Three are you just planting now???

NIce TJO. Good to see some pics. I thought you were just making the whole thing up. ;)

see you sunday, yeah?

I already had spores in my garden before AfPak came along... they have been here, living on the sweet pea and a couple of other things since prehistoric times. From what I understand, PM spores are everywhere.

I hear ya nomaad, and they are. The plants I spoke of went indoors, and I had hepa filters on all intakes so the rooms never received pathogens except that which came in on clothes or plants.

Darwinism bunny trail: I consulted on a room for a cycle once where the intake air came through a dense hedge. The plants never made it through flower because the owner refused to believe that the PM being harbored in the hedge (you could see it) was the source. It didnt matter how much he sprayed because it was continually microscopically sand blasting the plants with spores 24 hours a day. ANY spot missed by spray was attacked. This guy finally saw the light after losing 3 harvests. I left after the first, he thought I was the problem.

I am still getting used to talking outdoors, sorry about that. Yea, if we are talking outdoors that stuff is everywhere. Innoculations and High brix levels through proper feeding are really your only defense before resorting to applying something. From what I have seen and read, optimally healthy plants resist PM. I think TG wrote somewhere back that a brix level +12% in cannabis is the marginal difference between healthy and unhealthy - in terms of immunity strength and pathogen resistance.

What I remember reading was that a 12% brix keeps up pest resistance... if it works for PM too, I will be staying on top of it all that much more.

Tom -

Have you tried PreStop yet? This year I'm doing a lot of Companion & 3 lbs total of RootShield WP in the tank for drench, Pre Stop & Myco Stop WP applied via the spray on top and water in method Nspecta showed me when he turned me on to Myco Stop WP.

Nomaad -

Disease also. If you're doing Brix Mix with Vitamin C and Calcium 25 every week and some micronized sulfur here and there and your soil is high in calcium and sulfur, disease really has no chance. When they get to 10 or more on the Brix they start to turn blue green / teal and radiate a healthy aura that attracts good bugs and scares bad ones and diseases.

Just watch out for getting stem rot from making your soil very hot..:D MycoStop saved me a couple big ones..

Thanks, TG. I just ordered MycoStop... should be here monday.

I am doing weekely Brix Mix and about to do my first Calcium25 foliar. Both of them are weekly? I was under the impression that the Ca25 was a bi-weekly application. I wound up with the one for vegetables. What application rate am I supposed to use?

I will order a Brix meter later today.

I use the Ca25 @ 1/4 strength every week, I think Tom does 1/2 strength every other week and Brix Mix every week..The point is to just use it often and apply liberally :)

I'd also stop your MycoStop order. It's shipped with freezer packs because it has to be kept at a certain temp until use or the spores will die..Wouldn't want to shell out for nothing. If you order it Monday, MGS Horticultural will have it to you on Tuesday. Also get the Pre Stop

powdery mildew hates water

powdery mildew hates water

along with a healthy plant(as already mentioned), just a healthy foliar spray regimen can really keep it down. powdery mildew spores are destroyed by contact with water or any change in the p.h. of the leaves surface. but these are just getting at the end of the pm cycle, most people never actually head pm off at the pass. they just keep up a never ending cycle of battling the final stages of the funguses life with many expensive supposed remedies. id say fire your cut guy...lol
sounds like you all are preparing for the worst...and i heard that in my area anyways that it was pretty bad last year. usually its the cut mans mothers that are infected.and if hes got it, well than everyone down the line from him has problems.and since many folks rely on the same guy/collective/whatever, well everyone seems to have it.
pm can lie dormant for quite a bit too, then when it feels the right environment it sprouts(goes to seed),and thats the white spores we see. and that environment isnt usually what most people believe it is. it actually thrives in low humidity high feeding , well aerated situations, in low light areas. think of your perfect indoor garden running just great, but down in the canopy where the light doesn't reach all that well thats the spot for sure.
a well washed(foliar) healthy plant is the first/best line of defense.and as for products, many of them work pretty good actually. they just dont kill the fungus, only the seed/spores.
so again its about repetition and diligence. we spray food once a week to twice a week rotating in proper cycle from brix mix, to kelp/humate, to a fish based spray about every five days or so.
this seems to keep it away over the years. we will see this years results soon...lol

j.d.

Hola Tom and all the Green Team folks.....just dropping off a few pics of the progress over here. Winning some and getting bruised a bit here and there as always....

Hope all is well, will update again when my lateral trellis is finished and tied into the horizontal run of hortonova. Just trying to give folks a glimpse at how I'm trying to hybridize the growing of monsters with G-Houses, coupled with maximizing square footage under the glass...we'll see how it goes...:)

I hear ya about the G-House during flower Tom, wishing I could retract that roof from about 10AM until 7PM all Sep/Oct. Maybe I'll put a call into those guys that engineered the one for center court at Wimbledon...:D

Looks like everybody is rocking so far, especially you Tom. Your calculated gamble of that April plugging proved very worthy in that one plot, very happy for ya, big smiles all around-

Can someone tell me what techniques are being used to get sap/liquid samples from your leaves for your refractometers? I'm thinking about rocking the brix mix but wanted to get a meter to so I know that the BM application is being effective.

Thanks
