damn prop putting in work.looks great man, im glad you were able to pull off something like that considerin the circumstances.

Are most peoples plants starting to stack by now? i have some that look like they are almost a month in, and others that are just starting to grow white hairs. I think harvest will probably start around october 1st for me. I already have a few girls signed up for the trim crew including my all-star trimmer who did 4lbs in one day last year, and her girlfriend :woohoo:

Another dozen or more posts split and binned.

This thread is going way off-topic with discussions of indoor growing in foreign lands...not that I dis growing indoors, but the thread topic was not soil, nor was it indoors.

Now that Tom has been sighted here on the site it is time to reopen this thread for questions.

Now hold on Payaso....you're correct about the thread not being about indoor growing, but it is about soil. Check out the first post by Jenn who started the thread:

The growing large plants, outdoors, thread...
Hello Tom

I was wondering if you could take the time and talk to us about your soil mix, perhaps a recipe you might use?

For example could you explain to us the amount of soil and mix you use for one of these containers you make. Also any idea of the size?

Thanks - Jenn

and the 2nd post by Tom Hill:

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Hi Jenn,

I've played with a lot of different soil recipes over the years, 1rst year new soil mixes, as well as yearly additives. Here's a very simple mix that is well proven and I am comfortable recommending for those large outdoor containers. It gives about 50 cubic feet or just over 300 gallons (dry U.S), and fills a 6ft diameter container to a depth of about 18inches - perfectly.

25 bags black gold potting soil (1.5cf ea)

4 bags stutzman farms chicken manure (1 cf ea)

1 bag perlite (4 cf ea)

1 bag (50 lbs) bonemeal (steamed, not precipitated)

1/2 bag gypsum (aprox 1/2 cf) - Edit -> 1/2 of a 40 lb bag (20lbs).

Mix well, water thoroughly, let rest for 2-3 weeks minimum, transplant, and stand back

Best Regards,

Tom

This is how it all began...............

That is true Madjag, but remember we have many threads about soil, and this thread did become a showcase for those growing large plants outdoors, as the thread title proclaims it to be!

Let's not quibble over minor details, gents! Tom Hill will be here soon...maybe...heh.

Swell is up and winds are light...maybe Tom is catching a few more before he dives into this thread. I can't blame him. Surf's been pretty good this summer...Fall should be epic.

Maybe when Tom finally catches one in, he'll tell us if he has any new techniques he learned regarding building our soil and growing the largest, healthiest plants we can...or not.

HB.

You make it look so easy Yes4Prop. What strain is your most impressive acheiver so far?

wish it was easy! every year is a battle and new issues always pop up, not to mention the costs that go into setting up and labor for these gardens its mindnumbing sometimes. full season looks cool but greenhouses with staggered crops is the way to go. alot of my ups and downs are cataloged in the old thread...

wish i did a thread, still want to make a thread, just hard to sit down at the computer for long! maybe one of these days. we bulldozed those terraces this year to put two greenhouses, but i do like the mound method. this year had to go back to 400s just for ease and local conditions...
