Veg N Out

Going out Sat. 33.1f last night. Crazy wind is normal for me.
Put a couple backups out on the 10th that are lookin fine tho.
IME yer good to 30f, @ 28 yer fk'd :D

To a fruitful '13 :pirate:

2 years ago I had them take 25 f, the ones I didnt pull out went wide then up and still made 5..they were the dankest ones that year even.

It just sucks to see them hammered, I have a few that need to convince me not to replace them.

My other half is ever thier advocate. My experience tells me if I leave them they will be fine, my eyes just want it all to look perfect NOW...therein lies the rub..

The forecast is fickle and doing anything any time is a gamble..This is farming. If it was easy, it wouldn't be as fun....

My basic feeling is that every single time you stress a plant you lose some yield potential. Course there is no guarantee if you replace them those won't face their own problems. You just gotta judge how bad you think it really was.

But I would at least replace one...just for future reference. Think of it as a learning opportunity.

I'd love to hear any tips people have about how to adjust plant treatment during cloudy / rainy / cooler weather this time of year such as we are seeing now in Nor Cal.

Do you withhold feeding / foliars? What else?

For early season during the rain and cool weather I like to put my starts in the hot mix I use for full season I just make sure I get a batch mixed early so its fully composted when I need it then they only get fed fresh water cause they can pull what they want from the soil.

how soon do you guys put down mulch? ive never used it but considering it. what brand you guys run ? i run organic as most do and dont want no bug issues with it.

Also for you guys with hardening off issues and dont want to use sup lighting in green house for early planting. I use a proven method of planting the plant directly in ground from inside to outside . I then already have cages around them . So i cover 80% of the cage with sun shade cloth.and the top I used to pull out plants and throw them in shade and do like most did in the 80's and 90's till i started using shade cloth. reason for cloth was the trees or shaded areas had bugs normally of some sort .So i made a basic tent canopy over the plants as a group.left them for transition but lost "in ground time" of roughly 3-5 days depending on the light indoors they got.So now i gain 5 days of in ground time and come on guys as we all know 5 days in ground longer veg is huge considering its warm enough. So i get in ground May 16th-18th and for early triggering plants i throw them out may 25th. I felt the need to share this with the big plant guys. Pass this down . ive seen these plant dates from Red bluff to Marysville . with NO sup lighting. 12 hours direct sunlight.

I like to wait until it really heats up and the plants are larger before throwing down mulch. Maybe July 1. It can contribute to overwatering problems in sensitive early veg, so I don't risk it. Looking right on track over here. All are about 4' and super boosty..

For you guys that use PPD. It's not being sold as PPD this year, but 'Ocean Grown'. Contact me if you need help finding it.

Veg N Out

I put my mulch down right after I made my mounds, easier for me to do it with a skidsteer than shovel and wheelbarrow

thanks organic , fisher , veg........thats kind of what i was thinking of fisher.... didnt want to run into over watering issues... im in ground ....sometimes i think i dont water enough, sometimes i think i water too much...

ive always watered by eye , by feel of the soil , think im going to have to break down and buy a watering moisture meter....im running TH mix never ran before always got 4's but would love 7's...so i thought i would try it out..SO far so good...But new soil always has different watering needs...maybe one of you guys could chime in who runs TH mix while in ground at 300 gallon ....

you guys who have ran IN ground and smart pot roughly same size wise is it your opinion that smart pot needs water more vs in ground? .. I have always assumed that smarts above ground would use more vs in ground but read some post stating opposite..

any moisture meter brand out there accurate and not junk ?

Thanks in advance brothers for all the help and all you share !

Smart pots can wick moisture away very fast. For example, if you move a smart pot on dry concrete, the concrete will wick the moisture out of the pot. So, the same will happen if you bury the smart pot. However, once the smart pot and surrounding surfaces are moistened, the smart pot in the ground will require less watering than a smart pot above ground. That has been my experience at least.

I only have this one picture of my moisture meter, but it works. Cheap as a motha, but it gives me an idea of what the plant needs. I usually don't have watering issues here in the bay, when in doubt, don't water.

7 out of 9 of my extrema x heribei started to flower with supp lighting starting about 2 weeks ago. Every other strain did fine and the extrema's were closest to the lights so I am pretty sure it was just a strain thing.

Is it just me or is other peoples plants starting to bud????? I have sup lighting and still having problems...

If your referring to my picture, then it may just be you. I do have a plant that I suspect to be flowering, but the one pictured is not. At least I hope I am right about this.:tiphat:

Unusual Early Flowering Male

Unusual Early Flowering Male

Question for the experienced out there:

I have a Nirvana Eldorado (F10 Mexican strain) that was planted outside on April 20 along with 20 other beauties. Yesterday, 26.May, it showed copious male flowers beginning.

It's 18" tall and none of the other strains, including other tropical Sativas, have flowered like they do when you start under lights indoors and put them out too early. It's acting as if that was the case, but since it sprouted up roughly the 1st of May, it has had 8-9 hours of direct Arizona sunlight on 13.5 hour sun days, now 14 hours between sunrise and sunset.

I have read that certain tropical strains will flower even at 13 hours or so of sun, but when the days are getting longer?

Any thoughts?
