The growing large plants, outdoors, thread...

now i agree that different styles of growing the same plant can make a slight to drastic difference in taste/appearance/aroma/trich production etc. my outdoor og vs indoor looked like different plants altogether, same exact aroma though.

so why did u ask in the first place if u already had a conclusion......if u flush it well its not gonna taste poorly or like horse shit obviously.....would the taste taste be different than an identical clone being fed more ideally......yes....

Ganja D - good info on the spectrum of the moon. thanks

TG- seems like a sativa or a sativa dominant hybrid might have issues with being uncovered on 7/21? this is interesting. would they keep going because they've already been deprived? some of my sativas last year didn't show any flower till september... hmmmm..

nomaad - what size tarp do you need ? at $1.10 / sq ft I'll be buying it for my dep. I need a 42x80 footer , which will set me back $3600. not cheap, but also not a bad buy in my opinion. I will fork this over for piece of mind that my dep plants won't be getting hammered by humidity and that they will be breathing.

A lot of negativity in this thread today, looks like I'm not the only one who woke up feeling shitty. I've got a theory about how large groups of people are affected by unseen forces. For example, have you ever noticed that peoples personalities change some days that apparently there is no reason for the change yet you feel the same way they do and nothings changed for you? I believe we are all connected through electro-chemical senses that haven't been fully explored by science yet. Pay attention to what's going on around you and you'll see it as well.

As for horse manure taste problems, I hope that was a freak occurrence. I've got lots of mushroom compost in my mix that is almost nothing but horse manure. I'll find out for myself in a few months.

I'm trying light dep for the first time this year, I've had one plant flowering since April 1st.
I never seem to take it out or put it up at the same time every day, I'm hoping it won't be a problem.

Does anyone have plants in their final places yet? I've got a couple out so far, keeping light on them is troubling me though.

This year I'm getting an early start and hoping for an early finish.
Wow that wake and eat baked goods is coming on strong, gotta love kali mist butter. :D

$1.10? They dropped their price by half since last time i looked into it if that is accurate.

even so, the tarps u have with some buried ducting and inline fans would be much more cost effective , right?

assuming u want that tarp because its more breathable**

Plants grown in Horse manure

taste just fine. Ive grown in bat, seabird, chicken, turkey, horse and steer.

The only time I had problems was when i briefly expirimented with chem ferts. Bad news as far as im concerened. Thats what made an inferior product.

Im about ready to pick the GreenHaze/Thai plants. They have been outside for probably 6 weeks now. No black box, but its probably time to start, if your outdoors.

We are smoking some GreenHazeThai, and Headband tonight, and having a chocolate strawberry whip cream Canna butter cake, for my sons birthday tonight. They did a pot leaf out of strawberries on top of it.

I'd rather use the breathable tarps left on all night. Its worth the extra cost. A solution with no moving parts that can operate on or off the grid, makes no noise and won't require troubleshooting... sounds good to me.

3 week lead time if I order today.

well if you knew the answer to the question then it should have been worded more like: has anyone else noticed that herb grown with horse manure has a bad flavor/taste?

had i been more assertive in my inquiry on horse manure would you have been a little less sure headed with your response which was founded in what seems like very little real world experience on the subject matter of horse manure? i posed a question to spur debate, to get people to comment on their experiences. you responded like you've been around the horticulture globe and back. while i've seen your backyard suburban grow and commend you on a job well done as well as sympathize with your ill fate, i also know that you've asked some very basic questions on this thread, which helps me to gauge your outdoor ganja growing know how. again, respect to what you did in the backyard, but remember that there are many that have been growing herb for a long while and 99.99% of these folks would never even dream of documenting their grows online all the while possessing a wealth of knowledge on our trade. cheers.

Dont panic my friend, I have had horses for years and used their shit in everything and it all tastes great.
It is always best to break it down a little bit as it is a little bit hot, cow is the coolest and chicken the hottest.

Sounds like all on track for the season everyone......hope its a good one for you all:gday:

in my opinion flavor is determined by genetics. since the environment effects the way the genes express themselves, the limiting factor on how something tastes in my mind is the genetics themselves and the overall health of the crop from veg through bloom. how ever you get to the end is what it is, as long as the genetics are top notch and the plants were healthy the entire time (high brix rating and good ERGS all year) the flavor will come through in spades. don't get hung up on all this talk of nutrients making plants taste different.

Thanks Kangativa, Glad to see you still have time to drop in while your taking down those sativa trees. Did you have to bring in a boom truck to harvest the tops or did you just yell timber and let it fall?

I'm living the dream this year :D Thank God for prop 215 :tiphat:

Lol, no boom truck yet.
Actually it hasnt been to bad as the plants have been coming in pretty staggered due to the diversity in the strains I grew this year. I still havent harvested any of my strains yet except a early flowering Mullum cross that I have been working on that should be good in the Northern Hemisphere, even in difficult places to grow.....just got another strain to add to it.

"I'm living the dream this year" Thats good to hear mate, my dream is to one day be growing in full sun and not hidden away under trees....I hope Aussie follows the way for medical MJ the same as you guys.
We have a big meeting next Saturday with a few people from Overseas and some politicians, going to be very interesting.
Ok mate its off to work for me.

Happy Easter Sunday from downunder:gday:

I hope your meeting goes well, I'd love to see Australia get a medical system. I've been wanting to move there for many years, buy a boat and charter fishing trips to catch great white sharks. I'll be know as: "The Great White Great White Hunter" lol

Lol.... you would be known as the Great White Yank who ended up in jail.
They are a protected species down here and catching them is a big no no.....but you can dive with them in South OZ.....in a cage of course, unless you want to be on their menu.

Awww, I didn't know they had shark huggers over there too. I wouldn't mind swimming with them, but I'll be damned if I'll swim with the manta rays. That poor alligator hunter, he sure was entertaining.
I was wondering about immigration laws there, can I get citizenship if I marry an Aussie?

I'm looking for a girl like one of these:

But I'd settle for a girl like these:

imo a herb plant fed miracle grow and one fed organic rich super soil, you will get better flavor on the organic approach. The taste really doesnt matter to me if it doesnt burn to a white gray ash like it should, although this is just my 2 cents,

I respectfully disagree. I just ran a side by side test using GH 3 part and kool bloom in one room, and AN Iguana juice, budcandy, big bud, some nitrozyme, and EJ catalyst in another room. Same strain, same climate, same water, etc. The difference was at least 1/3 rd increase in yield although I wont know the final numbers for a while. The GH room looked great, and an early picked sample tasted great. However the other room was crazy. The buds were falling al over the place, there is way more resin production, you can notice the smell as soon as you enter the room, where the other room you didn't notice smell as much. The shape of the buds was rounder and fatter. Way more resin on leaves and the taste from a early picked small branch was 10 times more powerful then than the flavor from the GH room. You can look in the drying room and tell the difference in a second. One looks good, one looks amazing.
I've also done test grows using bottled products vs guano. Makes the plants look completely different and the guano really brings out the most natural flavors of the plant. Unfortunately:tiphat: feeding just guano tea and topdressing ain't gonna yield shit.

You missed my point.

Since you gave me your example I can help to clarify...

Let's say the strain is Headband...So the GH 3 part room and the Iguana Juice room may vary in the degree of smell and flavor, but they both smell like headband. Organically grown plants are healthier overall so the Iguana Juice room expressed a better representation of the strains terpenes, but they weren't any different or new terpenes because one was organic and one GH 3 part.

I think the best of both worlds can be had by mixing Dr Earth 4-10-7 in to the soil , top dressing with guanos and then giving them just a little grow more , supernatural etc., just to round it out.
