The Mite Fight
The Mite Fight
Insomniac - Yeah, I've started yearning for some Hempstar I think it should be a staple in any growers diet. It's by far my best medicinal genetics.
The Freeze is a very minty/hashy outdoor strain grown locally. It's usually quite leafy when I get it, and I've never seen an indoor bud. I plan on seeing what it can do indoors, because it's a very beautifull buzz.
Thanks eh
BF - Originally I had only 1 Hempstar bean, which was gifted to me. After my first run, I found 8 mature seeds in my batch. These are the seeds I'm working with now. So, I guess you could say they are my own Hempstar jarseed?
Thanks for the compliments on Tangerine. I have decided this will be her last run for awhile though. I'm actually getting quite bored of the smoke it produces.
Don't think I'll ever be flowering 6 at a time...maybe 3 tops. Just need enough to get me by

The Mite Fight
Well, the mites are back!
But this time, I'm not rolling over for them.
Unfortunately for me I have no access to Pyrethrin, so I'm going to hafta do this in my own way.
I put on the army boots and helmet yesterday and started a war Heres what I did:
- I started by walking in with the vacuum already running and starting sucking the air in around the leaves to catch all the flying bastards that jumped when they saw me coming.
- I then shook the plant vigourously while still sucking with the vac in the air all around ( Being a rookie at this, I ruined a few leaf tips) I also kept the vacuum running a lil extra while to make sure none of the bastards escaped the vacuum bag.
- I then administered the finger wipe, using my forefinger and thumb to simultainiously wipe the top and bottom of the leaf blade crushing predators and or eggs and webbings.
- I broke the No-Pest strip back out...However, after some research I found out that not only is it a cousin to the nerve gas family (dichlorvos) but that mites that are born into it, may actually become immune and creates a new version or "Super Mite".
Plus...they don't actually work that good and could be killing possible mite predators that could have let nature use it's own eradication methods.
- I then gave the plant a cold water shower. Mites don't like cold water.
- I then drenched her with a mist of Safer's soap. I know it's a little late in flower and I could be risking mold, but I'm being experimental and I've yet to run into any mold problems.
- I raised the lights a bit to cool the area down by the plants. It's below freezing outside now, so I know once I erradicate the living, the larvae, and the eggs they can not possibly be anymore.
- I added a fan for the cross-wind effect and also to help dry from the shower/misting and not get light burnt.
Future plans:
- She's going to get a cold shower every second day till they're gone
- Vacuum everyday
- Pest strip will stay out to kill any adults
Things I need for next summer:
- diatomaceous earth
- Pyrethrin
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
Germination
2 Hempstar - both cracked and were placed in soil already
1 Passion #1 - cracked and placed in soil already
2 Grape - 1 cracked, but was barely showing taproot. It stays with the other untill its tap is long enough. The other hasn't cracked yet.
1 Freeze - nothing yet.
Sorry for the super long rant post, but I've been really into my grow the last few days and I'm pretty excited about the new seed run and the possibility of saving the BB genetics
