At a university in Ohio.

The BBC Sessions are pretty good, there's a lot of candid dialog as well as some obscure recordings.

Jimi was one of the most innovative guitarists of our time. I know most people are into his stuff he recorded with The Experience and I am too, but I really enjoy that live album he put out with Band of Gypsys. Can't say I liked the whole album, but a few tracks stand out to me.

Who Knows was great for the guitars and the vocals, imho. So soulful and a great opening piece to get the crowd and the band warmed up.

The guitar work on Machine Gun was just fucking ridiculous. I can't think of another live performance by any guitarist alive or dead that can top it, imho. Just so much emotion packed into one song. The guitar on that track shits all over Van Halen's Eruption...sorry to all those Ed Van Halen fans, but that's just my opinion.

The intro to Power to Love is still one of my favorite pieces of music to listen to although I don't care for when they break into "power of soul" in the middle, but that's just me nitpicking. The guitar solo on this track absolutely rips.

They start with a mellow blues groove....then there's like a 3 second break, someone on stage yells, the drums come in, and all hell breaks loose! LOL. Still gives me goosebumps to listen to that part. When I first heard that track, I kept thinking how cool it was that they started out all nice and mellow...then they hit the audience over the head with a fucking hammer, lol. I must have practiced that intro a hundred times over the years and I never get tired of playing it.

HB.

Buddy Miles brought out a different side of Jimi's playing. Nobody but Buddy could have done what he did on drums on Machine Gun. The Buddy Miles/Billy Cox harmonies add another musical dimension.

You are correct that playing the top strings with thumb is not that hard, and that if he came out of the woodwork today no one (presumably you mean record companies) would pay attention to him.

But to come on a thread called The Awesomeness of Jimi Hendrix, and diss Jimi is rude and some might say ignorant. But keep smiling and spreading your sunshine.

i wasnt rude.if i just came on here and said he sucked that would be rude.why dont dont you stop being so damn democratic and just realize folks have opinions.
