Yeah, that's Jimi (Jimmy then) in the King Kasuals. Billy Cox in the middle there on bass. Of course, Billy played bass with Jimi at Woodstock and in The Band Of Gypsys, and in the Experience until Jimi's untimely death. That pic was probably taken in Nashville.

Kath was as good as it gets no doubt, shame he was in Chicago with all the horns and ballads.

Why did Hendrix use a right hand guitar? He had left hand strats to choose from I would think. A unique sound coming from playing backwards maybe? The upper fret access would be crap.

There were production model left handed strats, very few though so that would leave only the option to special order which would mean having to wait for the build and dealing with 60's era music store salesmen. On top of all that having to pay extra for a lefty would push anyone to flipping a right handed guitar. Hendrix was into stores like Manny's which was another rarity back then I'm fuzzy on this, but I think that's where the whole Roger Mayer hookup happens.

JIMI HENDRIX’S EYE-POPPING RECEIPTS FROM LEGENDARY NYC SHOP MANNY’S MUSIC

And it would appear his first Stratocaster is dated 1964 purchased in '66, I had known he bought it with Lithofayne Pridgon, "y'all know her as Fayne.... but we call her Faye..." just never knew what year it was. The Monterey strat is also '64. The guitar in the previous King Casuals photo seems to be an Epiphone Wilshire.

Why did Hendrix use a right hand guitar?

Besides having the pickups upside down, thus altering the guitar sound, I think Hendrix enjoyed blowing peoples' minds by being "the guy who plays the upside down stratocaster."

Jimi played in Little Richard's band, sure enough, but I don't think that's Richard in that pic.

I don’t know, I’m pretty sure that’s Richard. Remember it was mid 60’s. He kind of looked a bit like Eddie Murphy, lol.

I guess you’re right, documented and who’s to argue about an archive from one’s estate. The rest of those pictures in that link are great too.

Right, and it also illustrates that Jimi didn't just "come out of nowhere". He paid his dues on the road.

That's a good one. Here's the Jimi Hendrix Experience playing Sunshine Of Your Love on the Lulu Show.
