yo Balance great roots; nice work and thanks for the tip on pump size.

your sprayers are right under the pots ; I take it you like it better there.
The pirate had his sprayers between the rows.
what are your thoughts on that?

thanks.

definately between the rows so your sprayers dont get enveloped in roots. i wish my trays were a lot deeper because it's not true aero if the roots are sitting in the bottom of the rez. mine are gonna start clogging, worst 3k i ever spent, should have just built it myself out of huge rubbermaid containers, but hey you live and you learn

so a 1" layer of nutrient onthe bottom of the tray is NOT good.

kind of shallow-water-culture (SWC) is Not suggested (thats a question)

if your clogging sprayers that's a downside.
I had plugged airstone that killed a beauty
I'm only doing venturi for air bubbles now.

Roots envelope everything, the piping and the sprayers. After a month of flower, I can never open the lid very far. Just enough to make sure the roots are tighty white and healthy. However, with 30 sprayers and only 15 pots, thats two per... more than enough for complete coverage. Also, the roots really like to settle into the channels on my tray, so I don't think it matters a whole lot on sprayer positioning. YMMV

Jt, Don't give up on your systems. These really are half NFT anyways, particularly if you let 'em grow big. I'm sure you can work out the kinks. Like you said, there's a learning curve.... but practicing sure as hell is fun!

Good Luck.

leave a shallow layer of nutrients

leave a shallow layer of nutrients

is it worthwhile to leave a 1-2 inch layer of nutrient on the bottom for a 'shallow-water--culture' combined with the aero spray?

letting
the over flow controlling height/depth??

You can attach the sprayers to the top lid for a spray - down action & avoid the root cover-up of sprayers..

thanks.

The trough on my trays stay completely full of water, and like I said... that's where the roots seem to favor. It's about 3/4" to 1" deep. You can call it SWC or Nutrient Film Technique, it's all the same principle.
If you don't want that much water in your tray, just drill out another drain hole. That will leave you more dependent on the sprayers keeping your roots moist.
Have fun.

250mm Aero Pipe with 8 sprays...

Heres a pic of my 250mm stormwater poly pipe with 8 sprayers in it. It mists well and will be flipping them soon. I like to feed from the top also.:gday:

I pour a cup of water from the rez down each pot per night, just to keep some moisture there but now the pots are shaded from the plants, i dont think they dry out to much. Things seem to be going ok for now, a bit cold but going ok.

It's not too late to consider high pressure aero. It really doesn't cost that much more. I'm now on my 3rd hp a grow, with very high expectations from lessons learned.

The most recent lesson - Calibrate your pH meter at least once a week, and keep the elctrode fresh/wet. I'm going to start replacing mine ($55-60) every 5th grow. I damned near lost 5 lowryder/bubble seedlings because 7.0 was actually 8.4. BURN BABY BURN.

Thinking the worst, I started new seeds, but with nothing to lose, I put them in 'sickbay' for over a week. And don't you know, they may be on the way back.

Looks a lot like how I did mine but I used 300mm and had a bunch side by side, but the same nozzle placement from above.
