Strains with speedy effects

to me when i smell "thai" in a haze or whatever, the smells seem to warn me of danger.
The aromas that warn me, make my head rear back from the aroma, are from a solvent aroma like turpentine, menthol, or catpiss. But there may be another that might be key, a metalic smell.

When I was a kid smoking Thai Sticks, they made my teeth buzz. It was different than the electric shock going down my spine. It reminded me of bumping my elbow and going numb. My mind associates that metal smell with the teeth buzzing. I make it sound like it was adulterated with something. It wasn't.

I know it wasn't adulterated because I have had two successful attemps at growing Thai Stick. Once was in the 80s when HID lamps first became available. I had some seeds back then. I got very similar Thai Stick effects with one of my first HID indoor grows. Another time was when I found a special Neville's Haze. It was one of about 36 seeds I was testing of Hazes, Neville's, Original, and Willy Jack Haze. I failed on all those attemps (hay) except that freaky Neville's pheno. It was mind blowing. I grew it for 16 weeks in veg, and 18 weeks in flower. It started out a very slow grower, and ended as a Dr. Grinspoon type pheno. I got less than an ounce under two 400 watt lights. It was, by far, the best weed I ever smoked. And oh, it had that metalic smell also.

Abso...friggin'...lutely! I'm searching and searching and... for one worthy of this line.

I'm looking through my Gypsy Nirvana Thai Stick x (Neville's Haze 21 x Mullumbimby Madness) seeds for a winner. I ordered some Tiger Tail from Prempavee, and Shan Burmese from The Real Seed Company. A local friend ordered Hmong Thai and another from Prempavee. I hope to cooperate and share with my friend. It's going to have to be very good.

If I do find a good one, I plan on crossing to the above mentioned line. I also would want to preserve it. If two or more kinds are good, one can dream, I'd cross and preserve them.

You know me... Thai, Thai, Thai, Thai,... and S.E. Asian!
Sounds like you are living the dream mate :)

800w x 30+ weeks of juice for an oz.... dam if only you were in the tropics then so you could’ve kept it going.

Anise. It smelled exactly like anise.
I grew a Dutch Passion Durban Poison that I harvested early around 2010 that was just as you described .
Anise with lemon mixed in was how mine tasted.
but the high was incredible . the ultimate yard work motivation weed. speedy And euphoric.
the harder i worked the higher I got.

I smoked some Swazi once in Durban city that had me walking in circles around town for five hours. so wired that I couldn’t stop. by far, the longest time I’ve ever been super off of one joint .

One of the Gypsy Nirvana Thai Stick x (Neville's Haze 21 x Mullumimby Madness) plants gave me an inkling of the high that I want. It may have been that I didn't grow it well enough. I saved a ton of seeds from it. But still looking through the F1 population before I start testing those, or test a better one I find. It wasn't especially speedy, but psychedelic. If I find one and can fix those psychedelic and speedy traits, I'll share with the community.

@ThaiBliss, speedy and psychedelic is something I've never felt together with weed. My sample pool was from the mid 80s on, so I know I missed out. For what I've tried, it usually goes from euphoric to trippy or the kind of trippy where you go in and out reality(with some moments even questioning if you're even high). The speedy usually starts with like a pulsing behind the eyes that proceeds to the limbs, then it becomes difficult to be still. It's possible to focus (at least for me) as long as the activity matches the energy, if not it can become uncomfortable sitting there spinning your wheels.

Say What?! 🤷‍♂️ LOL.

Not your couch sitting types of weed, either trippy or speedy, IMHO. I never feel weed is trippy if it is heavy limbed, muscle relaxing type of high. The only trippy weed that isn't at least energetic are Colombian types. Those can be what I consider narcotic, but it a floating around lighter than air kind of way. Not heavy in the arms, legs, or face at all. Eveyone has their own concept of what is trippy. How do I know that you see what I call blue. Are you seeing what I think is blue, exactly? We can both agree, maybe, on something that is blue, but are we both really seeing the same thing? I'm not positive. Oversimplified, yes. But hopefully you get my point. For this stuff, we need great writers or poets.

I think of speedy weed as a different type of stimulation than trippy weed. To me trippy weed is very mentally stimulating and somewhat physically stimulating (vs a heavy sedative, narcotic stone) but it doesn't allow me to focus the mental/physical energy to do physcial activities over an extended period of time. What seems like many years ago, when I was in good shape, I could smoke Swazi (a speedy weed) and still have great surf, paddling and ocean swimming sessions. One of the best 10 mile runs a friend and I did was after smoking some. I tend to think that the right weed can sometimes help put you in a flow state where energy and metal focus seemlessly transfers to movement. At least with the trip weed I've tried, there's no way I could do that.
With regards to trippy weed, my most intense experience mirrors the Real Seed Company's description of their Shan Burmese (if you add in bouts of laughter and paranoia). It was stimulating since it kept me up all night and had my mind racing from one thought to another). I'm curious if that strain has very large seeds, like the ones I was given.

I have a lot of hope for that Shan Burmese. 🙏🤞 I'm overdue for another win.
I think that CSI Humboldts Burmese also has alot of potential. It's an old NLD strain that iaccording to CSIs preservationist would be the one sativa he would keep if he only could have one. I got this from listening to the Potcast interview. Mass medical strains also grew it out. Strain originally was collected by preservationguy or dude?. I ordered some a little while back, but won't grow it until I move back to the tropics.

Based on reports Malawi gold seems to vary from speedy to almost narcotic, depending on the vendor and sampler. I have a feeling that the speedier Malawi is likely related to Swazi.

Malawi Gold (TRSC/Afropips) is not the same as the so called "Malawi" from ACE (narcotic mess).

I've tried a couple of Malawi hybrids. One was from Afropips and the other an heirloom from Santa Cruz Neither seemed to carry the speedy trait in the cross like I was hoping for. I have one more to grow ( equilibrium genetics Malawi x ethiopian). Hopefully, these deliver what I want.

I've grown both Afropips Malawi and Swazi - I can tell you I saw no similarity between them.

I’ve only smoked Malawi cob once (25 years ago)and it was a cleaner high than the Swazi. i met a chick in Mozambique that had a cob she had brought with her.. It was like a pure stimulant , hard to describe as I have never experienced anything like it since. I found all southern African herb to be more stimulating than Asian or American traditional herb.

those are the smells Im after but keep finding terpinolene instead

Keep hearing terpinolene. TERPINOLENE TERPINOLENE. Out of all the terpenes that have jack shit all to do with weed, this parroting of "TERPINOLENE" intrigues me the most.

What do you think terpinolene smells like, exactly? Because people keep saying it, in regards to "Haze". And I keep smelling overfed Sativas, people claiming it's "haze" terps.

Terpinolene smells like a rusty apple hospital cypress oil. There is no other way to describe it.

No one has ever smelled terpinolene in weed. I have grown 9" internodes for 50 years. I've popped every "haze" seed on the market. You internet guys have been told plastic smells from too much phosphorus = terpinolene.

Tldr: Historically, anyone who name drops "terpinolene", especially while talking "haze" is smoking plastic terps.

Haze smell

??? There is no "haze" smell.

Some smell like spicy tropical leather, some smell like sugary incense. Some smell like lemons. Some smell like the nostalgia of your ancestors tilling burnt crop residue into fields at night.

How is that one smell?
